I just wondered if anyone had ever tried to arrange a fanzine for gy? Maybe if we could do a quarterly or something we could get the message outside the area that we have a fairly large community and that'd give us a chance to get much bigger bands in.
We could get everyone to put stuff in like local band interviews, album and gig reviews, articles...
We could also get adverts from local rec.shops etc to pay for printing and sell em at rock nites.
Don't slate me for suggesting it...i just thought it might bring a little more unity if everyone got together to do something for the greater good?

Raych that is a reaaly good idea. It has been suggested before but, as Pete said, people in this town really couldn't care less. He is also right when he says it won't get much support but some people will be interested. If you want any help I am quite willing to lend a hand just let us know.

The GY scene website is an ace idea and has good features. Hopefuly people will use that.

what size bands do you want, cleethorpes has had Speedhorn, Capdown, Spunge, One Minute Silence etc.
Lincoln never gets any bands like this, and even sheffield misses out on most tour packages.

you really should do it tho! i'm sure people would buy it if it was dead cheap, they probably wouldn't wanna contribute but i dont see why they wouldn't read it...tell ya what, to offer encouragement, if you actually get it up and running post details about it on here and i'll have a subscription! i recently discoverd an ipswich zine called scanner and i thought it was amazing that GY didnt have one considering the scene there is better than it is here...uncanny timing really... dont just do local bands tho cos noone from other towns would really care then..but do have a mix of local and national bands..either way...defintly do it!!! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

The idea of a local fanzine is a good one and I'd be happy to help in any way I could. If you try to get it going you will come up against a brick wall of GY apathy but that doesn't mean it isn't worth having a go. There are those "scenesters" who always seem to be negative about everything to do with local bands, invairiably they are the ones who would rather go to a rock disco than go to a gig or just go to gigs at the Beachy so they can play with their freinds. As somebody said to me today, they are usually the ones who come on here moaning about "the scene" the most.

In response to the Sheffield comment..I agree with funny guy....The corporation has had some FANTASTIC bands...also with local group the Spitupkids putting on gigs they get loads of cool bands in smaller venues.
I disagree, however, with the comment about no good local bands. That is a very poor generalisation. All bands are good in there own way. Some bands have some VERY talented members who could be pointed out and then there are the all over good bands like the Greenacre and Stand. And plenty of good bands come to grimsby.

Anyway, yeah, a good idea. Although to make it good you'd have to omit half of the GY bands and make half of the zine about Imbalance splitting up.
However, I must admit, i'm not sure i'd buy it. A lot of small zines like this are free and i'd only shell out for something i knew would be good and cover stuff of special interest to me. But we'll se...
