Excellent...
... Except that it requires cookies! I hate cookies.
Any way to keep a session alive without cookies?
It looks great but after visiting the old board for the last 3 years, it may take some time to adjust
The old system also required cookies but I have no idea how they were implemented or were used. Then again that was the problem with the old system as I inherited it, learned the hard way how to manage it and get around what worked and did not work. This coupled with a system that I thought was nice but looked more like a hobbiest led me to develop this new system. Trying to keep some of the original look and feel while freshening it and hopfully a more professional look and feel.
This system took about 2 months to design and code and I am happy to say we do have a full time developer as well as a long list of things that are still being worked on, fixed or will be added.
On top of all that is a much more powerful server that is being built. The current one is nice and works well but now that I have some time under my belt I have a better understanding of what demands the system is placing on the hardware and I think I can lessen the load being placed on it.
Let me guess. You're running this on SuSE?
Hey, how do I get a five star rating?

Current server is ReHat v7.0 running on a server I built myself. The new server is Redhat 7.2 and will be 100% run by a Compaq server and sub system.
As for the rating, well guess someone likes me for a change
Viva RH! We use that heavily as well. I guess the grooving penguin threw me off.
I am a manager of a network department so whether it is Novell, MS, *NIX I had my pick of OS. Decided on Linux for a variety of reasons.
I just noticed this new board censors "naughty" words.
Do we really need that? That was one nice thing with HostBoard. HB didn't censor so you didn't have to get cute with spelling to get your point accross.
Case in point: In another thread toady, I was trying to be humorous by saying (without the dashes), "D-a-m-n Yokomoha for discontinuing AVSi's...". It shows up as "**** Yokohama", which can easily be misinterpreted.
This is one vote against censorship. On HB, profanity almost never got out of hand. Why restrict it here?
(btw: yes I am a member of the ACLU!)
**** **** **** **** ***** bastard
fuckin, fucked, shitty,
LOL... all right I'll stop. I just can't help rebelling a little.

WOW... oops! Some of em made it through!
Sorry about that.
I like the board tho... looks better than the old one. I also like being able to see who else is online easier.

Hey, it's free. I'll give it that.
Censoring words is a moderator toggeled option. It is default set to on.
Great Job!!!
I like the new look.
OT - I must be really bad... I have no rating. SOB !!!
Linux? .....Boooooooo.
I'd rather see it on a W2K box, but I'm jaded (MCSE/CNE).
All bow to the great and powerful Bill (Gates).
Good to be here on the new board.
I like it, but the best thing about the old HB for me was the ability to do searches all the way back to the day that hector was a pup. I hope that the old searchable message base is preserved. It was a goldmine.
Bill
I really like the new look, but the one thing I hate is that everytime you make a post it give you a "thank you" notice. That is one thing I really hate about other boards. I mean who can I say "your welcome" to?
art
One more gripe....
You can't delete your own posts anymore.
I agree, we should be able to delete our own posts!
One of the things I like about this board is that its members remain reasonably civil and we are for the most part a reasonably mature crowd. I therefore see no reason to block profanity in posts, rather I see it as an unnecessary form of censorship. Any chance this feature can be switched off?
We really need to be able to turn the avatars off if we so choose. I HATE boards with avatars.
Also, the board is still really slow.
the board is kinda intricate with date, username and time; Topicstarter, last post.....etc
The smilies are cool
PS: we want more than 4 pics to post.......even smilies are pics

I like seeing the time in Eastern Standard instead of military. I'm kinda dumb so converting the time was a pain in the *** .
...still slow during peak times...
The old forum was also...
Look great though! Tom
Ability to show avatars is a moderator toggeled option.
Ability to edit, delete posts is a moderator toggeled option.
Spent alot of time making things as configurable as possible.
Maybe there should be another moderator besides VTeCno Geek (you can have up to 8) or ask him to stop by and configure it the way he would like?
As for speed I am working on it but it is going to take time as the old system is still taking alot of system resources where the new system better manages them.
Can I get my post number back and some sort of rating? I know I **** but come-on
that word was s-u-c-k. can that censor **** be disabled and if so, how?
that one was c-r-a-p
Well I guess I am stepping in as a temporary moderator. I have removed the censoring of words.
As for post counts if you e-mail me direct with your user ID and the # I can adjust it for you.
