that should be a cool little car. I would never buy one though just because I know a Ford mechanic and he says thoseare the shittiest cars he has ever seen. The have a horrid amount of problems and the build quality sucks. But he likes it though, always gives him plenty of work to do.
edit: just read the article, that thing is a porker. 2,770 lbs!!! What is that thing made of , lead?

This might be something to keep an eye out on - I'm told by a Contour driving friend that it's powered by the 2.5L V6 as in the base Contour and the Cougar. There are a lot (not like Honda, but still) of upgrades coming out for this platform (Mondeo=Contour/Contour SVT/Cougar) including a Vortech supercharger, so dont write them off yet. And Ford is doing a full court press to make this a "domestic import".

A west coast source says Endyn's working on a couple Focus projects with Ford. One's supposed to be an 11.0 sec car with an automatic transmission! Could be interesting
It is still the 2.0 Zetec motor. I saw it this weekend at IAS. It is a ported head with bigger valves and slightly higher compression. They got rid of the close coupled cat and moved it under the car.
I will say that the FR200, is a badass looking car. It would be great if Ford built that, complete with the turbo and body kit.
I think the car looks not bad, at least its looks better than newer civic (just what i think tho). I think the focus will do well, at least its domestic and parts are a lot cheaper.
Speaking of new cars, cant wait for VW to come out with their 4motion, AWD V6 in a hatchback. Ouch.........
Btw, isnt there like a 7 or 8sec Ford Focus?
My problem with the Focus is the freaky fuel system, as exposed by SCC.
It's a returnless, oneway system, so the ECU controls the fuel pump and does strange things to it when you hit redline that kill performance for the next few seconds.
SCC found that they got better 1/4 mile times by shifting well before redline to avoid this problem.

Well, our other car is a Focus ZX3-
My husband wanted a little car to run around in, fit his golf clubs and get decent gas milage. Since Honda decided to quit importing the hatchback Civic, that became a non-option. We tried to find a used hatchback, but no luck. so the Focus was the next best thing.
It has a very "German" feel to it, even the sliding seat belts.
And I think the article hit a few good points, especially if an aftermarket develops for the Focus - Honda has really screwed up IMHO.
I have to tell you it's a pretty solid little car. Needs some mods (in my opinion) but it was pretty cheap new and had all the bells and whistles. Anyway, we got the Sol, so who cares, I can kick his butt!!

So I have bad taste hee hee. I am planning to buy the Ford Focus. It seems like a cute little bugger hee hee. But everyone has different taste, and you are entitled to how you feel about the car.
I will let you guys know how this car feels like, when i get my hands on it...=)
1250 KGs - that is heavy! (760lbs heavier than my 88 1.6-i16 CRX when it left the factory).
I have heard rumours that 2 tuners are playing with the Focus. #1 is JRSC have been developing a blower kit for it, but that the US spec gearing really sucks, and the performance of the kit has been less than anticipated as a result.
#2 - COSWORTH have supposedly been on the case of the Focus for ages, but nothing has been shown to the public yet. Remember the Sierra Cosworth, the RS 500 (500 BHP), the Escort Cosworth, and its variants. 4WD and a turbo are on the cards...
sounds like 3rd gen gsr specs to me. the gearing probably does suck though. But for 18,000? Its gonna be in business until the nissan SE-R vspec comes out and the next si's.
also it has a 6 speed manual
