Well, I'm pretty sure that I should have King do the install and tuning of my SC and cam gears. Here's the thing. They said the Jackson Racing Fuel Pressure Riser is not that good. They said that they will use their own fuel pressure regulator which will make more power.
How many of you think the JR FPR isn't that efficient? This is the first I've heard of people needing another component to do adequate tuning of the SC.
Let me know what you guys think. By the way, Scott says that with the SC, my current mods, and tuned cam gears, I should get 215hp easy.

avanish: whaz UP!--hey bro...sounds like they sell'n ya some snake oil bullshitz??? since they don't make a supercharger...how da f--k they know whaz works with the JRSC as whole damn kit? plus i never heard any peeps have probs wid theirs on the 6psi shitz atleast...but, i know that King shitz is always hella expensive! have they got proof that they ran this on a JR and it was found ta be better?? or they jus talk'n outta they azz for mo' of yo $$$.

I talked to John at Modacar and he was surprised that King didn't think the JR FPR was any good. He thought that King may be trying to push their own FPR.
Another thing that bothers me is that King isn't giving me a definite price on the install. They said it depends on how long it takes them and they expect it to be around 10 hours worth of work. My question is, if they've done so many installs, shouldn't they have a set price on install?
Modacar, and many other shops have a set price and that's what I think I want to find. I also think that I'm just going to install the SC and I'll do the cam gears later this summer. It kind of bothers me that King charges so much and can't give me a guarantee that the price won't exceed a certain quantity.

The guys at Modacar did the install of the JRSC on my 'Teg. They are good people and I'd recommend getting the SC and installation from them. They were very good, quick and professional about it too. Even though I moved away from the Bay area I still order parts from Modacar.

The JR FPR is adequate until you move up to more boost. So far the initial reports on the Bell/Cartech FPR are very good for 8psi applications. I would not go with a shop that won't quote you an install price. Sure, if you have something bad (like a sensor, or a broken off bolt) I would expect them to make adjustments, but the install (with the JR Kit it is mostly labor) should be set and they should be the ones to eat any extra time, just as they gain by any time that is saved. If I was in Cali I would have had Jackson do the install.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I decided against King. Even though they said they've done a bunch of installs, the fact they can't quote a definite price leads me to believe that they haven't since it doesn't sound like they know how long it takes.
Unfortunately I'm in Minnesota so making it out to Modacar or Jackson Racing is out of the question. So I just have to find a place around where I am or in the Midwest that can do the install. I don't think the SC install is as big a deal as the cam gear tuning though. Finding someone to tune gears is tough since it's really an art.

4 hours? It took me 3 hours just to clean the intake gasket off. If you have the oil cooler, that adds a couple more hours to the job. Triming a cold air intake takes another couple hours. Are you going to solder connections? Are you going to mount the pressure switch on the vibrating manifold or plumb it to a mounting point on the firewall? Is the fuel filter getting replaced? Installing the high pressure pump? Do you have to have any wire harnesses unwrapped and rewrapped to make connections?
This is at least a 16 hour job, done by experienced installers. For the unexperienced like me, more than double that time.

I agree that 4 hours is way too low an estimate. It took me 25 hours. I was anal about getting details right and had some "issues" with a flawed manifold, but I would think that even an experienced installer who didn't need the directions would have a tough time getting under 10 hours.

If King motorsports is telling you that it takes 10 hours to install the thing I would definitely worry. It should only take an experienced tech around 4 hrs, I believe.

For an EXPERIENCE installer, it should take roughly 6-8 hours. My shop has installed a good number of JRSCs and now can install them very quickly.
The more practice, the less you have to rely on instructions, and more on install quality.

It took 10 hours to do mine, at my house. Air tools are a BIG time saver. I have these at my house so that is prob. why it did not take that long. Well and the fact that i had one licensed tech and another that has went to school but is not licensed helping. I did the pump at the same time. BTM and J&S were done the weekend before.
In a shop with someone that has done it before it should take no more then 8 hours. And that is doing a good job. I could do it in 8 again at my house easy with the same people helping.
That intake manifold gasket sucks that is what took the longest (1 1/2hrs) for me.

The people who are going to do the install are JR distributors but I still don't think they know how to tune it since I know the guy who owns the shop and he doesn't seem too knowledgable about tuning issues.

King motorsports is definitely a respected company with many years working on/building championship winning road race cars(SCCA etc). I don't think 10 hours is a unreasonable amount of time to estimate for the install. It took a dealer about that long to do my civic. Even if they haven't done many JR installs, they definitely have the tools to make sure it is installed right. They probably work/bill on a hourly bais. That is why you can't get a exact price at this time. Not to name names but....just because someone is a "authorized installer/distributor" doesn't mean you will be happy with their work. I took my car for some 'tuning' to one and had to redo simple things like gauge installs. They left wires laying across the engine. They hooked up power to the gauges by pinning the positive wire between the fuses and the fuseblock.

You're right that King is a very respected place. That's why I wanted to go with them in the first place. But I kind of worry when someone doesn't give me a definite price. They said 8-10 hours work. But if it takes 15 hours, I would be forced to pay the price since they didn't give an exact price.
How hard is it to install one of these anyway? My understanding was that installing it wasn't that difficult but tuning needed experience.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THIS. I WILL GET THE SC INSTALLED AT THE JR DISTRIBUTOR THAT I PLANNED TO GET IT DONE AT FOR $500. THEN I'LL TAKE MY CAR TO KING TO TUNE MY CAR WITH THE CAM GEARS. THIS WAY, KING WILL STILL ULTIMATELY TUNE MY CAR FOR A DEFINITE PRICE ($400 FOR CAM GEAR INSTALL AND TUNING).

Since the authorized JR distributors as well as King Motorsports all charge $500, I would need a price lower than that if I were to consider going with an individual over a shop.
