no its because i still like pop punk! i've never really liked emo or this new hardcore stuff...HHH and all that just not my thing.
thats why my band is gonna be more or a poppy/hard thing. lagwagon, good riddance, strung out etc. we still need to find a drummer too that can play dead fast tech stuff

dont get me wrong, im in no way against it, but in the last week ive heard of two groups of well respected players forming pop punk bands. is it just cuz summer is coming?

Factoid: I learned the word "Pre-emptive" five years ago from playing Final Fantasy 7. If you ever got a back attack, you could reverse this by pretending to run away, but then coming back. A handy little bug.
Pop punk is by no means the way forward at all...neither is Staind etc...pop punk granted is better in the summer cos it has a partyesque quality...........bt music needs to change and diversify...not stick to the same tried and tested formulas....I love Reel Big Fish...but after 5 or 6 songs in a row...they all sound the same and it gets dull.
Yeah, pop punk does get very repetitive.
It's not really my scene though.

Some of the best times of my life have been at punk shows. I agree with Belly Boy, I would like to see things return to how they were back then, simply because it ruled. Yes, diversity in music is a good thing. But not when it creates a scene like we have here in good old GY, filled with pretentious tits like Joe (Ex-members) and vain people like the HC crew. It's exactly what we DON'T need. To The New Kid, so fucking what if Ste was saying "Play like back in the day"? If you had been there, then you wouldn't have posted that, because you would've known what he meant. And Ste doesn't even rate OCP as far as I know...
And I see L2Y Joe turning up to a Siknotes show and dancing for all he's worth to pop-punk bands, and ones that he's probably ridiculed and called shite before. What the fuck?!
And Ants, no offence, but for all your rants about supporting this scene, etc, you're just as close-minded as the rest of us when it comes to the music that you like, it just so happens that you're a DJ, so you have a little more opportunity than others to get your fave tunes played. At least I can admit to myself and others that I know what I like. Yes, I am close-minded. Strung Out own. Most other Fat Wreck bands of that style rule too. Fuck emo, fuck HC, fuck nu-metal. Don't get me wrong, it's not necessarily the music I can't abide, it's the ethos, and the personality that it evokes in the people who are involved with it. From what i've seen, the punk crowd in GY is by far the friendliest, most down-to-earth group out of the lot of you. Plus, if only the emo kids could see themselves sometimes...Jesus...
Anyway, punk IS the way forward, and i'm glad it's making a comeback. That show on Friday was the best one i've been to in a LONG time. Enough of stuff like the Greenacre and the Ex-members. Enough of pretentiousness, enough of acting like a spaz. If punk is coming back, then let's rock!

I like the music I like and other genres are crap. I hate it when people like more genre of music, change what music they like or realise that they like a certain song or songs from a certain genre.

i think theres alot of stuff that people have needed to get off their chests here. dave...i've seen that brewing for along time now and ants, that was a very good post just there. i've seen you do more and more requests lately and there is more of a wide range of music being played at park lane and musician. but just cos i said "back in the day" theres no need to call me a wanker. i AM allowed to reminice about how things used to be cos i was there and it was fantasic. the gigs back then did seem to be better too. maybe it was because i was younger and just alot more impressed at the time. i said that it is good that things are going back to how it was "back in the day" because i enjoyed it so much and i for one am deffinately looking forward to what is to come...even if it isnt all pop punk

But yeah, you DID used to neglect us at Hollywoods ^_^ Still, even now, I don't often bother asking you to play any of 'my' music, as it usually gets cut off halfway through. I understand that this is because no-one is dancing. But I attribute this to the fact that they don't know it as one of 'their' songs and therefore don't feel obliged to dance to it. But then, in a roundabout way, this is because it doens't get played regularly. A vicious circle...
There was a bit when you started playing Bark at the Moon quite often, and people gradually started to dance to it. Perhaps a little scientific experiment is in order? [img]smile.gif[/img]

Strung Out are also my fav band, you cant beat em. I own 5 of their albums, and the drummer is a god, its fast, its furious, and most of all packed wiv tallent. Greatest band.

all i remember from hollywoods was gameface, afi, sick of it all, reel big fish and bowling for soup. five songs in five hours that i could be arsed to dance to.
i dont think this i anything to do wth what ppl like, so much as the fact that ppl this year have been listening to what they "should" like.
ppl are easily influence by the more, lets say........ powerful ( i dont mean that in ay kind of political way, but for want of a better word)

ppl are easily swayed, and i have nothing but respect for ppl who will stand up and say "this is what i like, this is what i dont like, its not being closed minded, its being strong minded.
personally, i like alot of stuff, being a musician helps u appreciate alot of thngs, but i am still a punk person, its definitely my favourite.
i do think its fai to say that the ethos behind punk is a much more fulfilling one than the ideology behind what u might call emo, hardcore or whatever, because its about havng fun, and thats the same a life.
