Hello everyone,
Well, I am now a member of the 9psi club via Jim's stepper pulley, and I've got to say... WOW. =) Getting the alternator pulley was a PITA, but I am VERY happy with the results.
Now on to my question. My SC belt has jumped a rib on the alternator pulley towards the alternator. It looks like this is where it wants to be (the ribs on the SC pulley and the alternator pulley aren't lined up). I think it was always like this and I just didn't notice.
The crank->alternator belt lines up fine, but the alternator->SC belt doesn't. Does anyone know of how I can fix this? It doesn't look like the alternator or the blower want to move in either direction.
Also, can someone repeat how much play there should be in the alternator/SC belts? One of them is slipping, and I'm wary of overtightening now because my alternator belt actually went to hell (I think I overtightened it).

I had this problem for a while. Make sure that the 2 12mm bolts that lock down the supercharger idler pulley are tight.

Thanks 217. So you just lined up the belts, tightened them down, and then locked down the tension on the SC belt?
The two bolts on the SC idler pulley are definitely tight.
Was your belt jumping a rib in the same direction as mine (towards the alternator)?

Yeah. It was jumping 1-rib towards the alternator. . .but sometimes in the other direction as well. I noticed that this would happen most often right after I drove the car hard.
When the car is idling, and you are watching the belts, do you notice any wobble in the alternator to supercharger belt?
Don't be afraid to tighten down on the supercharger belt though. That was originally my mistake also. You're pretty much guaranteed that you'll have to change out that belt pretty often (every 5000-10,000 miles MAX). As long as the belt gives a little bit when you push on the back of it (firewall side), then you're fine.

Nope.. doesn't look like the alternator->SC belt is wobbling at all. It looks like the belt "wants" to be one rib over towards the alternator. I'll try moving it back over and then retightening everything. =)
How much play do you have in your crank->alternator belt?
BTW: Damn.. my hands are all torn up now after futzing around with the alternator under the car!

1/8" at the most, I think. Can someone confirm this?

Im curious as to the proper tension as well. My belt was skipping as well towards the alternator until I put on the plastic pulleys. Ever since the plastic pulley went on, no skipping.
I originally thought the belt was too tight, but when you say 1/8" of play, for example...I keep the pulley as far up as possible, and I think I get more than 1/8" play.

Double check to see if the two small washers between the alternator support tab and the upper alternator bracket are installed... otherwise, your alternator will be too close to the driver's side fender. This will cause your belt to jump.

Hmm... that could most definitely be it.
How thick/big are these washers? There are two?

Aright... so I went outside to check on these washers... and the people who installed that bit of the kit put the washers in the wrong F!**ING place. I'm in the middle of pulling that whole piece apart to put them in the right place, and I must say.. it is not easy.
Anyone got any hints on getting the forward-most bolt holding the idler pulley bracket to the bracket on the block off?
Just to clarify... the idler pulley bracket sits flush to this stock bracket on the block and the two washers go between the straight bracket with two holes in either end and the one on the block... correct? (or something along those lines... I'm tired and can't think anymore)

Thanks for the info Jim. After hours of work, it's all back together.
Too bad I can't start the car because I killed the main battery fuse (100a) hahahaha.
You know what else? Installing that stepper pulley would've been 10x easier if that bracket was assembled right to begin with. After getting everything on right, the lower alternator bolt slid in and out no problem... before I had to hammer the sucker out.
All in all, I'm glad I found the problem and fixed it.

The TWO studs from the idler adjustment assembly pass through the upper alternator bracket. A flange nut is screwed directly onto the stud closest to the block. The two washers are then placed onto the rearmost stud, followed by the small strap bracket and finally the flange nut. The other end of the strap bracket is then fastened to the top hole in the alternator to "Fix" its position. Once all nuts and bolts are in place... TIGHTEN everything.

I had a belt jump a rib in that direction once. That was shortly before it disintegrated into hundreds of belt bits. Probably played a huge role in it's jumping the rib.
