Well finally, apporval from disability

well I got approved but they approved it on the salary I made back in 2001. so its 60% of the pay I made back then. which was a little of a shocker and made it less than I hoped. but hey, its better than nothing.

she also talked about seeing if I can do some other job outside of what I'm trained for, but I dont think the docs will go for that.

so, at least the wondering and waiting and all that is over and thats good. the bad is its less than I expected and it is taxed which I thought it wasnt. just have to be more thrifty in the future I guess.

well, despite the somewhat bad news, that's gotta be a big load of yer chest, Brian.

yeah, at least I dont have to wonder and guess anymore. and she said that if I could work outside of my career it would all be based on my schooling, training, experience, previous pay and what my health would alow. the one doc says never. she also said I'd never end up somewhere like McDonalds or something if I could ever work.

I'm just glad I dont have to wait for the answer anymore. not quite what I hoped, but there are many folks worse off than me. some lose their jobs and have nothing to fall back on in this econemy.

yeah I just have to be carefull what I do. they'll yank the benefits any chance they can. some other guy used it before and was making some fishing lures and selling them on ebay and they cancelled all his benefits.

and though its not as good as I was hoping, at least its no longer a guessing waiting game.

had something to do with one of the times I hurt my back. I'm not sure I understand it, but she is going to write it all down and explain it in some package of paper work I'm supposed to get. I guess they really dont want to give up any money that they dont have to so they find any loophole they can.

Glad it's over with, sucks that it wasn't what you hoped for , but I'm glad you know where you stand. Don't know about you , but the worst part for me, stress-wise, is the "not knowing". That's what drove me nuts when I went through this type of crap.

whats bad is it makes you feel a little like a failure. youre supposed to do better and better as the years go on and I was. now I'm going backwards. you lose the sence of making more of yourself when this happens. people look forward to building their nest egg and retireing and then something like this happens. just goes to show, you never know what tomorrow brings

You really cannot predict what this world is gonna deliver, before my accident, I was working my ass off in the heat at the airport in Phoenix doing grunt work right along with degreed middle manegement folks who had been replaced , laid off, shut out "Here's your hat, what's your hurry" types. At least you know that this was truly beyond your control, so though you may be technically getting paid less, it's not as if you screwed up
or asked to be there. So, you have no reason to feel you have "failed" in any way, shape , or form.

just hard because I finally felt like I had a career, even though I was disgusted and disillusioned by the corruption in it, but it had direction. Hell I never in my life thought I'd amount to anything let alone have a career. figured I'd be making minimal money and struggling all my life. lucked out when I got a career in the fire service and at least thought I'd have a nice retirement. now I'm never gonna have a true retirement where you think you get a party a gold watch and move to florida and greet people at the door in Wal Mart.

Didn't go to my prom as my gradma died, didn't have a bachelor party.......shall I continue ?

And your life is FAR from over. You're a resourceful guy, here's where you learn to take advantage of the system that took advantage of you. YOU can't work or make money that would jeopardize your disability, but you've got a wife whose more then able to earn an extra buck or two without it effecting anything of yours besides the pocketbook. I've got plenty of friends who were involved in the big Newspaper strike here in Detroit that "couldn't work" while on strike who actually made MORE money then they did while they were working.

And as far as the typical retirement with the gold watch and bunt cake, those are becoming rarer and rarer. My best friend's dad worked as an engineer for a Big 3 supplier. Two months before he was able to retire they laid him off. They're rationale: although he was an engineer for over 29 years he never got an actual college degree.

So buck up little camper.... and you're not retired so stop thinking about trading the TA in for a Buick!

Yes, relax, like I'm doing (had to take the day off, haven't slept well two nights in a row from being so stuffed up from a head cold I can't breath when I lay down). Hey, I still say start your own little Figure collecting store around there.. It wouldn't be too strenuous (unless you let it be), and all you'd haveta do is take it easy and Not lift things or stress out over anything. You order figures, sell figures, pay bills, seems easy enough. You just gotta make a plan I suppose and find out how to order the stuffs

Glad to hear things are finally starting to look up a bit. I've been totally out of the loop the past several weeks, I started a new job and have had almost no time to read or post on the boards. 1. Great news - certainly much better than most of the other alternatives.
2. Forget about feeling like a failure. In these times, getting no raise, or even a pay cut is unfortunately a norm.
3. Disability based on 2001 salary... because of an injury from back then... sounds like they're admitting you were disabled back then. What was their position on your health at that time?
