You know, if it's a practical joke, That's quite a joke to pull off.

Interesting that the people who are saying it's faked still haven't come up with an explanation of *how* the faking was done.

I don't know, myself, but I like the idea that one of the commentators expressed, about how this is kind of a "Copy that, Roger" sort of message.

C'mon guys- didn't you see the PBS special a few years back on the "crop circle contest?"

Crop circle hoaksters from far and wide were invited in the form of an open contest in a field in northern England. They competed to see which team could make the most complex and impressive crop circle in a single night. It was really amazing what they came up with (using folding chairs no less!).

This particular image copies the INCORRECT version of the actual message as printed in a book! Need I say more?

Yes I shall- it shows a picture of your standard little-green-man. The most stereotypical alien image in the book!

I watched a special where they used wooden planks and rope to keep the geometric configurations. I'm not sure if it was the same show though.

I think Mel Gibson's new movie about them might still be entertaining. Especially if Mel get's all "Mad Max" on the aliens. :)

"Highly improbable" that it's from ETs, but not impossible. Just apply the Sherlock Holmes method of ruleing out the impossible.

I think it's MORE frightening that groups of people, in total secrecy, all over the world, have been sneaking around doing crop circles for the past 30 YEARS without getting caught EVEN ONCE.
Besides, there still are some which defy any explaination. That humans couldn't possibly have done, what about those?

I'm not saying that little green men are doing it, only this: there's more to the world than we currently understand.

I like the way the aliens recently stopped making crop circles during the restrictions for the mad cow outbreak. Good to know they care.

Seriously, I'm taking both sides with a grain of salt. All the same, I *do* hope that there's someone out there, that there's SOMETHING out there beyond what we know currently.

Worst serving wench I've ever encountered. Stealing wallets, kicking patrons in the ass, the owner must keep her around for her looks. ;)

While I believe there's something out there, I'm pretty sure they're not running around making crop circles. I haven't seen one that can't be created by humans.

As for the SETI one, the best point made is that the message sent in 1974 hasn't even made it far enough for any aliens to intercept. It can't travel faster than the speed of light, which means it won't hit its target for another 25,000 years. And there's nothing that narrow beam should've hit with the past 24 light years (which is how far the signal has gone).

Most crop circles occur over a weekend, btw.

I'd still like to see "Signs", though. Looks like it'll be entertaining.

Yeah, I'd say that most of the evidence points toward hoax, although aliens would be pretty neat, as long as we didn't get the live version of Mars Attacks (another awesome movie!).

I'm disappointed by the whole mirror image issue, because other than that it was a most excellent crop circle thingie - knowing the binary codes and all makes it much more convincing than just repeating the same pattern as was sent out. I like the part about silicon.

Where the heck would someone have come up with this idea in the first place, as a body of hoaxes?

When Binary code is written to translate it is written right to left. So in order for the message to be properly translated, it should have been written right to left, not left to right like Paul Vigay did.

Besides, it is more likely that Mr. Vigay made a slight error than the multiple authors and editors responsible for the books.

That stereotype had to start somewhere. It is possible for someone to have seen a 3' tall gray/green man at some point in the past. Or they could just have had really bad eyesight and saw a dwarf in a gray suit and a big hat.

Everything aside, hoax or real, it is really interesting and thought provoking.

One of my xgfs started seeing this guy, after we'd broken up, who claimed to be abducted by aliens. It was fascinating listening to her describe this person's encounters. The whole time I'm wondering if she actually believes all this.

What a perfect excuse if you'd been out too late, or slept over at a different girlfriend's house.

Saw "Signs" and it was OK. It did 'borrow' several plot devices from other movies (like ET and Night of the Living Dead) but since those were pretty good movies, it worked well. However, I can see why the 'croppies' are peeved about it.

One idea presented in the movie is that the circles went away in the 80's or 90's. This isn't true, the MEDIA stopped paying attention, but there were nearly as many (on average) every year since the first media frenzy. They also occured before that time as well.
