grammys

Vinnie backed up Faith Hill lastnight on the grammys, not he rbest performance and it was ALL live, not just her but the whole band. Anyone else watch it?

I saw that performance and thought she not only looked horrible, but sang horrible...flat everywhere...band didn't sound too hot either...

The look was a bad day Madonna, trying ot show too much leg and crotch.

I thought she looked hot as usual... She was a bit flat but it sounded like she was having trouble with the range of that tune. (pretty low in the verse, high in the chorus)

I can certainly think of worse things to look at while drumming, that's for sure.

Ahhh it was Vinnie!Heard the little Vinnieisms,and there was a overhead sweep shot of the band,and it seemed like the man,but alas now there is confirmation.His kit looked like a brown color.Ummm Faith is so yum,but dressed so yuck.Actually all female country artists are dressing so wack these days.I remember Faith dressed in this sharp suit type thing the last i saw her on TV and she looked great.Oh ya -DRUM FORUM!Hey how about Questlove and the Roots layin it down!!We just hosted the Roots @ my work on Thursday.That was such an amazing show.Not one turntable in sight!Too bad the Grammys are so predictable,it doesnt even register under my pop culture radar anymore as a worthy event to watch seriously..........beats

She looked good, I did not like the dress. Maybe it's just me. But she definetly could not carry that tune live, much more a studio track than a live one.....

I thought that was Vinnie by just his sound.

Btw, My Friend Dan Reiser played drums on the Nora Jones hit. He made session scale.
Just because you played on a hit doesn't mean you're going to retire. I'm sure he'll get to raise his price now!
The guy who penned the tune- DON'T KNOW WHY - (Jesse Harris)- made the most from the record. Much, much more than Nora.
Just a reality check.

I thot this was the worst Grammy Award Show I've ever seen. There were so many mistakes and awkward moments...it reminded me of a HS talent show at times. I beleive there were only 11 awards given in all the TV time...that's a lot of performances! I guess that's cool.
Nice to hear someone knew a performer. I am always interested in the business side--what someone makes for playing in an award show like this, etc. I thot JR did a great job playing a slow ballad on yet another award's show a few weeks ago. To me, that was a serious gig pressure wise. His timimg was right on and kept the thing all together in front of a live audience and a 30 piece orchestra.
What out Nora Jones for the Grammy hoax! Most big winners go nowhere after such a plunge. I feel she will most past this with the market she is hitting and her style of soulish music. Can you believe Sheryl Crow is 40!

vinnie with a classic vinnie performance, im sure most nuances were lost on the uninformed, but it was great to see him on the grammys...shall i say a clinic for those seeking truth. i find that many times on tv vinnies drums are always well back in the mix, there is so much that he is comping for i think its almost fitting,not so much heard; but felt. vinnie is all but the perfect expression of momentum and energy never a stroke wasted always staying true to the fundemental groove. when this truth is realized by a master of gung fu like vinnie, nothing can go wrong, people that play with vinnie always remark at vinnies playing how it is on the edge but always correct, he is the music. something we should all strive for. im disappointed that some of us here cant look beyond how faith sounded flat. vinnie was not vinnie of old, but still containing the old spirit that makes him who he is. If he is ripping some odd meter or playing country .... he is .....the expression .......lets not forget this .................

jj420: As much as I admire Vinnie, I'm sure neither he nor ANY drummer would make such claims ('perfect expression', 'seeking truth', 'never a wasted stroke', etc.) about their own playing. It's music, man, not geometry.

Wish I coulda seen VC's performance, but I've no stomach for anything Hollywood. Call me a stick-in-the-mud... : )

1st of all, i didnt even know they were on [didnt they just air 1...3...10 of these recently?! Seems like every time u turn around about every month or two theyre showin yet ANOTHER in the ENDLESS barrage of so-called "music" or "Hollywhacked" 'awards' show of some type...ho hum...]
...2ndly [& like you, helpmate]; i grow weary of all these
"dog-&-pony; 'celebrity'-schmelebrity; mass-marketed to the sheep/cows/goats/; 'hey lookit me, don't u wish u were me;
popularity contest; look at all the soap opera 'stars;' trendy-li'l-flavor-of-the day/mo/yr, bubble-gum" type shows...
Hey, i thought i ALREADY graduated junior/high school[?!]...

They should instead give out the:
- "watch this or that 'star' get more smoke & rainbows blown up their arse than Jerry Garcia" Award;
[notice: 'STARRR' is 'RRRATS' spelled backwards]...
- "who's regurgitating the same old mass-produced, schlock-BS, bandwagon-crap Award;"...
- "who can strike the most absolutely fabulous'es'es poser-pose" award...
- "who can look & act more 'cool'/'hip'/gangsterlike/sleazier/thuggish/crass than the next hood ornament" Award...
- or "dont believe all this BS hype, stop wasting your time & turn your channel to something much more constructive for your own life" Award...
[oh yeah - talk about'cher issues! [img]wink.gif[/img] ]...

I think the kick-some-serious-mule rock band Living Colour [Will Calhoun!] said it best with their tunes "Glamour Boyz" [& "Glamour-Girlie-girls" too, for the Pol Corr crowd], & "Cult of Personality"...

Derek...i can def relate...for 3 yrs i had to look at this girl singer's backside the size of a Mercury Grand Marquis [each cheek]...i coulda set a drink, sandwich, order of hot-wings, & mallots/brushes up on there, if she hadnt shaken it around so much [sometimes the drums/stands/riser would wobble on the crappier stages that one might encounter in various clubs from time-to-time]...& her brother's glute was like a smaller girl's - better'n hers!! [e-gadds!]...& the bass-players' hair was a cross between her-&- his arses...talk aboutcher nightly mind-ffffffry...ah, yes, memories...that was "back in the day" [I was a coupla inches less in the waste myself!!]...

AFA Sheryl Crow - wouldja believe i got to stand 3 ft from her in Billings, Montana, '01?! The band i was in got to open 4 her @ the state fair...she's cute; a rather petite, small woman IMO, but had that "backstage, 'bummed-out,' incognito" appearance at the time [shades, hair pulled back, baseball cap, sweats, & a T-shirt]...those lights, makeup, camera angles, & filters really do even more wonders than are already...

...ANYWAYs, i hope it was indeed a good union payday for 1 of our fav skins-ticklers, Vinnie...

Sorry...needed to edit post. My thot: Many artists that experience Grammay favor quickly fade out...as tho it was a jinx, not hoax (my bad)

i dont think anyone has mentioned steve jordan @ the grammeez. we dont get to see himi much anymore. for me this was the hi-lite . . . vinnie w/ faith was great, but what about STEVE!!!! he was killin. great camera time to. well lit - righht behind sheryl crow (whenever she was on tv sj was right there too) and behind sheryl crowe is a place i would like to sit and earn a bunch of money. his snare sounded outstanding and in general his mix was much freindlier than VCs . . . in my humble drummers opinion.
