I'm not certain what user name Dulcinea goes by on here anymore. I know some of you know her personally.
She died either this morning or yesterday.
I'm trying to get details, but I'm just hearing this through work.
She was a good person who's had a rough road the past couple years. I'll remember her well.
If a moderator can sticky this post for awhile, I'd appreciate it. I'm not certain how frequently folks drop in here anymore.

Reason I know you and Dulce were close friends of late, my sincere condolences to you. This is awful news.
We all have argued and been mean to one another at one time or another, but this seems like the loss of a family member.
My heart goes out to her boys especially & to the entire board. She will be missed.
This is the first time we have actually "lost" someone on the board. People have come and gone, but this is the first time someone has died. Something I hoped we would not have to hear for many years to come... [img]frown.gif[/img]
All I'm hearing is that she didn't show up for work for a couple days. They sent someone to her house. I think they found her in bed. Hopefully she passed peacefully in her sleep.
I assumed it must have been a car accident or something she was so young. But when God is ready for us it doesn't matter how old or young we are. I guess her role in this life was completed, just doesn't seem possible it could have been with little kids left to raise and being so young. So sad...
One can only believe she is in a better place and it was meant to be.
Hopefully you are right Jester.
I'd hate to think that she suffered.
Please let us know about funeral arrangements.

ok. um. she went awol about a week and half ago. last saturday night we were supposed to go out to dinner and discuss what was going on in our lives. she didn't return emails and her cell phone wouldn't accept messages so i figured something really important came up. she also invited me to come over to her work and eat lunch at her desk.
naturally, i'm stunned and i just lost a friend.
please tell me this isn't true.

I got confirmation that Maureen did in fact pass away and that fellow employees were notified. I have no other information.

But she lived for the moment, and take heart in knowing you made her life nicer with your company in recent years ater all she had been thru with her divorce and job situation. I echo everyone else's sentiments here. We exchanged a few emails from time to time but I only had the privilege of meeting her in person once, and that was over at Gae's house. Privilege prevents me from getting into what we spoke of, but those of you who were close to her know what I'm talking about it and her's was a situation where you really were pulling for her despite all the other crap. My condolences to her family and friends.
If I may begin the process of reminiscing, in May Maureen and I went to the West Chester Wine Festival. It was held inside the Voice of America Museum, which we decided was a venue most unconducive for savoring wine.
The place was packed and long lines snaked through the gray hallways. We got in one line and waited. And waited. A half an hour is a long time to wait for a sip of wine.
Then it got good.
We got to the front of the line - we literally were next to be served - and the people pouring announced to everyone, "SAVE YOUR CUPS! THERE ARE NO MORE CUPS!"
Of course, Maureen and I had no cups. We had just purchased the tickets to obtain the wine, but hadn't progressed to the point of actually drinking it.
I mean, who ever heard of a wine festival running out of cups?
We spent the next 20 minutes trying to find a cup, and I snagged a dude who had just returned from Meijer.
It sounds like a dreadful situation, but Maureen and I had plenty of time to talk that night...waiting and waiting. We actually had a very fun time - so much fun that we proceeded down the road to The Encore where we spent a couple more hours chatting away.
Maureen had such a wicked sense of humor. Sometimes she was cryptic; so much so that things slid by my dense head. But that's how she was. Being around her, I felt like I had to be on my toes.
So outwardly clinical, she really was a fun woman and so very interesting. Our newfound friendship only had months to develop, but I can assure you I will miss her very much. I very much enjoyed her company.
I wish I could've gotten to have that chat Saturday night. I had a 2 for 1 coupon for what I termed a "romantical bistro" - Fridays.
Hey Maureen, I'll miss you. But remember - We'll always have Clifton!

This is absolutely horrible news. I will tell D2 when she comes home from work. Maureen was truly a kind and wonderful person and the world is a worse place for her having passed.

It's good how some are using her real name on their posts. She was Dulc to us, but Maureen to most. Those who were closest to her on the board, knew her as both.

I'm at a loss for words. I know some of you have gotten close to Dulc. I'm so sorry.
Dulc was a great person, and I can't even imagine what the boys are going through.

I keep finding myself speculating things that I shouldn't, after Big Sexy's post. Hopefully, I'll know more today.
I am very saddened to hear that Dulc is no longer with us. She was such an amazing lady! My thoughts go out to those of you who knew her best, esp TBS, Gae, and of course her boys.

Count me in as having "questions", especially after reading reason's post of yesterday .
I'm sorry, I shouldn't have posted that. In the moment of being stunned, my concerns about her from last week came to the forefront.
Dulc and I had decided we were going to go out either the 15th or the 22nd. We "soft circled" the 15th and said we'd tentatively go out that night unless something in our schedules conflicted.
I emailed her around Monday or Tuesday of last week and Tuesday posted here on our date thread, telling her I looked forward to going out on the 15th. I also accepted her invitation to come to her work and eat at her desk (she had cafeteria tokens she wanted to use).
I didn't hear from her so maybe a couple days later I wrote her again and told her I was concerned as I thought it was unusual for her to not respond, especially after back-and-forth emails indicating an interest in catching up on things (my vacation and her new job).
She was never big on her cell phone, so it made sense that I wasn't able to leave a message, though I did try about 4 times.
So that's the background. I didn't mean to make this the focus of discussion. Like I said, she was already on my mind due to her absence so the stunning news of her passing probably hit me a little differently than it did others here.
I emailed her several times, posted on this board and tried to call and got no response. That just didn't seem like her, though from time to time recently there were gaps due to the stress of her change in jobs.

When we lose someone close we don't feel "whole" for a long time. Nothing feels "real" either, like the rest of the world keeps going about its business and everything has stopped in your world. But it does get better, although at first you think it never can...
My concern is for her youngest son. Maureen felt he was different than the older one, and she was especially interested in understanding him and being a capable parent as he developed into an adult.
Both children have experienced a huge loss, but it was her special concern for her youngest that makes me realize not only how much Maureen cared for her children, but how her youngest has lost his biggest supporter.

It's hard enough on an adult to accept a loss like this, my heart goes out to her kids. I hope her x-husband and his new wife step up and are there for them...
Losing a parent (or any family member) isnt ever easy. My dad died when I was very young, I was about 9 years old. In fact myself and my brother and sister were all between 9-12 years old when it happened.
We moved here because much of my Mom's family was here and they were a very solid support group. I give my mom credit for raising us (and putting up with us) through adolesense and beyond.
Hopefuly their dad and stepmother will pick up where she unfortunately had to leave off as far as supporting the kids.

Anyway...to say I was stunned by this is an understatement. As a parent, my heart positively breaks for Dulc's boys. I certainly hope KP does right by them.

I just reread The Big Sexy's post about Dulc and wanted to say a couple of things in her memory.
In 2004 I received a rather fat Christmas card from her. Inside was a pair of motorcycle earings. Apparently she'd gotten them months before at a county craft fair with me in mind. After all, she said when I phoned to thank her, I'm the only intelligent person she'd ever met stupid enough to get on a bike.
Then, last summer I met up with her at a biker bar Trav and I had been to. It was in her neck of the woods and the boys were at one activity or another until about 8, so we had time to drink a couple beers. (I must clarify and say that it was a poser biker bar, not a Hells Angels kind of place.)
I don't believe I've ever seen anyone more out of her element than Dulc was that night. She'd brought a book in case I was late. She wondered aloud if the place was safe. While we were taling she started telling me about her work, and lemme tell y'all there is NOTHING that gets rid of unwanted attention more than a woman discussing science!
Anyway, the real fun didn't start until the lingere show got underway and we both realized (from answering nature's call) that the ladies room was filled with naked women, writhing on the floor to get into those sexy-somethings. THAT was funny. Probably no so much in the retelling, but those of you who know Dulc's background will understand the shock value.
But I do think my greatest pleasure was her screen name here.
One thing is for sure, she is smiling at all the traffic the board is getting from this....
I'm sure she is, GL.
And probably looking for a DSL connection in heaven so she can join us.
Dulc helped a friend of mine get a job at P&G. She just emailed me to let me know about Dulc in case I hadn't already heard. My friend tells me it was a sub-dural hematoma to the head. Not sure of the cause? Aneurysm or fall?
Perhaps it was fortunate her boys weren't home to find her...

I did hear today that early indicators point to a heart attack. Anyway, I'm relieved in a weird way that it was of natural causes. I'm hoping she just didn't feel well, and passed in her sleep.
It's still so bizarre because she was so young.
I still haven't heard funeral arrangements, but I'll share them here as soon as I do.
I don't even know what to say, I'm so deeply in shock. Dulc deserved a long life & happiness again, not this. Those poor children, they must be devastated.
I guess we should all take a lesson here. You never know what day will be your last, live like you were dying.

I had the honor of meeting Dulcinea a few times. I say honor because even though we didn't know each other well, she talked to me and treated me like a friend. I felt comfortable around her. And that in and of itself is a rarity. The world has lost a great person, we have all lost a friend and our world is a little sadder b/c of it.
I think instead of mourning a life cut short, Dulc would want us to celebrate the life she had. To cherish the memories we all have and not to cry, but to smile and keep her in our heart and remember how the positive way in which she touched all our lives.

It's hard to consider the world a fair and just place when people like Dulc are taken from us way too early and people like the kinds of folk Lew and...soon...me deal with will live to be 100.
I like the idea of celebrating Maureen's life rather than mourning her death. I think we should get together and toast a few....or many....to Maureen.
I only talked to Dulc in depth once, that time our group met at the Irish bar in Hyde Park, Winter of '04 I'd say. She was very raw about the X situation at that point, I hope she found peace there eventually. I miss her 'round the boards, never missed one of her posts...
