I'd have to say it was 2nd or 3rd grade (1980-81) - Nick Rhodes and John Taylor of Duran Duran. Then I discovered someone by the name of Nikki Sixx in 4th grade (1982-83)- and then of course the beautiful Pete Burns of Dead or Alive (man he looked HOT in that video for You Spin Me Round).

I have thought about this question several times before and I really cant name one reason or a particular person. I just know that the whole glam image is very sexy and cool and to me as a woman not at all in any way effeminate. I know a great majority of people will NEVER understand that but maybe thats also part of the appeal [img]wink.gif[/img]

The best answer I can come with is that I think it's probably because (while I'm pretty much straight) I generally find girls way more physically attractive than men... so pretty guys are like the best of both worlds.

There are sveral fashion sites that I read and once in awhile someone will post either about men wearing makeup, heels, or both. Invariably, someone wil call them gay and/or they want to be women. Those women will say they like he real macho, trews off the butt, DL type of hiphop thing. I say DL because that is where that repulsive hiphop thing started, with gays.
The irony never fails to keep me in stitches.

Just always thought it was a cool and dramatic look. Even just simple eyeliner!
Back in my Sweet Venom days, I actually used to use black nail varnish above my eyelids (bad idea but looked very cool!) and the cheapest, nastiest whore red lip-stick I could get.
These days I just massively over-do the eyeliner and a slight bit of eyeshadow.
It all sweats off by the 3rd song anyhow... haha

Hmm, you know... I'm not sure. I can't remember any time I didn't like guys in makeup. I've always liked makeup, and never saw any reason for guys not to wear it. Although there's quite a few guys that need makeup. lol

First it was the music....Hanoi Roxxx...and after a while their look started 2 interest me as well...and the rest is history....
As most kids a facination with Mum doing her make-up to begin with and then to see Motley Crue and Wrathchild wearing make-up opened the door for me with a little encouragement from my then girlfriend.

Honestly, if that hadn't been posted HERE, I never would have even responded to the topic.
As for what makeup I wear, since others have posted, I sometimes coat my upper lids with black grease paint, and use black mascara and liner. That gives me sort of a silent film/Valentino look. Nail varnish and matte lipgloss as well.
I really don't know, I think the more bands I got into the more I progressed towards Glam, hell I just thought it looked cool.

My husband is 41 and has only worn makeup on stage at shows in the past few years. Hair can be bought if you have enough money to pay for such things as hair club for men(no one would even think "wig") but most people cant do it or keep up with it. Just be who you are and remember we may be older but we rocked harder,longer and we did it FIRST!! I turn 40 in December and believe me I'df give these 20 year old chicks a run for their money but with one exception..I have a developed brain as well as everything else [img]wink.gif[/img] We rock!!!!
I can see how losing your hair would cause you to be a bit less foppish than before. I'm lucky in that I've got a thick, full head of hair, which I like to do various things to.
Anyone who IS losing their hair could try a sort of Roxy Music era Brian Eno look. Think of RiffRaff in RHorror, only more stylised.
