It's big news here that Ryan has been axed from Nickelback for no apperant reason - and is to be replaced by Daniel Adair of 3 Doors Down. Has anyone heard anything?
I am not a fan of either of these bands, but Daniel is a major success story out of Vancouver, and we share the same teacher. I also feel bad for Ryan, since he has been with that band since day one.
Adair is a great player - gets better and better everyday too. I wonder what 3 Doors Down is gonna do now, they must be upset.
The amount of kids that asked me to "Do that Nickleback intro" to "How You Remind Me" was absurd during the time that song was big...

Like I said - I am not a fan of either of these bands... but, this news was "close to home" for me, since I personally know or have met Chad, Ryan and Daniel.
Ryan had some great grooves... check out the ghost notes in "too bad".
I've come to realize that you gotta give Nickelback some credit for conquering the world like they have. Only problem is all their clones now... the list goes on and on.
nevesis, why do you only pop up here in HOD from time to time just to be negative? I agree, Nickelback is not really my thing either - but thats not what this thread is all about.
P.S. Funny enough the posts by nevesis have just vanished.

EDIT: I saw that Mr. Holmes was online - perhaps he took care of the matter. Regardless, Steve, if you could just leave a post of what action you took that explains things for me and also sends a message to other users and guests that such comments are quickly dealt with here. For your info Chris, I just tried to put Nevesis on track again. The comment was really unnecessary.

If it's even was Vinnie who wanted to gig with Nickelback, and if i were Chad i wouldn't have fired the current Drummer of the band.
But it's obious that Ryan is serious about his instrument, and is going to get through this period and get another good gig. I'm 100% sure. Playing for one of the most selling rock-acts in the 21Th century must make some guys raise their eyebrows when they know he's avaiable.
Maybe Metallica is firing Ulrich now [img]tongue.gif[/img] and Letting Ryan in. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Klemme, Ryan plans on studying music in Boston (Berklee) from this point on... odd IMO, but it's what he wants to do I suppose!
Well if that's what he calls taking a break from the Road, then it's probably cool for him. Maybe he's an old Extreme Fan, and receiving lessons from Mangini could be a milestone for him?!.
Let's all pray he had some publishing. I've transcibed some of his tunes for students and they are easy, but very musical, fun,and tight.
Didn't Chad give that guy from Saliva like 5-15 grand for that Spiderman song, which went on to make bank? Leaving poor Jesse(Saliva) peed because he signed a lame contract.
Perhaps Chad wanted more publishing so he fired him.
That's my theory, but who knows.

I always liked Ryan's groove on the early Nickelback tune Leader of Men.
I think the guy from Puddle of Mudd (Upchurch?)got the gig.

Funny this subject comes up now because last week I wouldn't have known what you'd be talkin about.
I had a rehearsal last weekend for a couple of upcoming gigs with a band that plays new rock . I had barely ever heard of these bands I have to cover: Nickelback, Blink182, Korn, Presidents of USA, Ataris, Goldfinger, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, 3 days grace, 3 doors down, System of ...3 doors grace down (!?!),...it's all the same.
I played 3 tunes of Nickelback and found the drummer to be quite ok. It hasn't been mentioned why he was fired. You guys seem to pretend it was not his fault, why so?
In general, I don't find this new rock to be very good. IMO, overall musicianship in radio rock just went downhill with the advent of Nirvana.
And why do they all ride loudly on a crash cymbal?? It's so ugly, unmusical and tasteless...
Ok, I'm out. I guess I'm old...
Also what's the trend nowadays when you cover bands like Linkin Park? They have lots of electronic loops and fuzzy processed voices. Do you guys cop it?

Ryan (former NB drummer) did nothing to get fired... read the articles and reports, not only that but I am getting my info from inside sources. Not that this effects me in any way personally!
You're not old Tombo...Most people here, including me, would agree that all bands you mentioned are terrible. Perhaps with the only exception of System of a Down - they have some drum parts that were very creative.
Since Jeff Porcaro Died, rock has never been the same.
This new... yuck, jazzy-set-ups-let's-play-rock-on-vintage-instrument wave is just not me.
I do however find the New Mercury Rev album pretty good! But again this Crash/ride thing you're talking about is becomming more normal than just keep a nice Cup-pulse on your ride cymbal. Blame China!

Reminds me of a Danish band that when playing live, has a machine that launches biscuits into the crowd. At a gig some years ago, they had to discontinue playing because they were litteraly bombed by piles of Biscuits from the Crowd, was priceless! [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That band usually don't play that style. It's a corporate band with a repertoire of cocktail, retro, disco, classic pop/rock. Bandleader claims she can adapt to any type of evening/public and has been asked to do alt-rock for a particular event and said yes. That's why I got that new music to learn. I wouldn't play in a band that plays this style exclusively.Quote:

i have to set you straight on a few facts though, pal...
vik was not with NB from day one ...NB is from hannah alberta... ryan is from vancity BC.. i believe NB had two different drums while in hannah (one being the other kroeger brother)... and once they moved to van i think they had one drummer and then auditioned about 50 drummers before getting vik... i have even heard stories of chad playing drums and singing lead during one gig becuase there drummer at the time had called in sick at the last minute (you know i have the sources when it comes to this bread rock stuff...)
Ryan may have done nothing to get fired.. but he did'nt do anything to keep his gig either. 3DD and NB were on tour last summer, the story is pretty simple, dan was a friend of the bands, he is the a great drummer and an even better person. NB took notice and decided it would be best for their future to enlist one of the best rock drummers of the scene, and who also happened to be a hometown boy... perfect match..daniel is a business man at the same time and it would have been silly for him not to climb the ladder... he will never be out of work for the rest of his life.
