Coupla years ago someone asked on TB if you were able to travel in time would you go into the future or the past and why. Assumption is that you are an observer not a player. Part of a common psychological test as I recall.
I went for the past. Laid out a few things I'd have like to have seen (like being ringside at a Tyrannosaur duke out) but was probably more comfortable with what I know and frightened by what I don't.
Try your luck and don't forget the "why".
I would definitely go into the future. The past has already occurred and I know how it 'turns out'. I love adventure. I want to see something new. Where are we headed? What new inventions will there be?

walked west with Lewis and Clark,

Pammy, if you only had one shot, how far into the future would you go? Or, if you could go and not return, would you still go? What would you take with you, if you could?
I have always been fascinated with the idea of time travel. But then, I guess it is available to us, in a way. We can certainly read history, and our imagination is the portal to the future.
Here's an idea for you Morbius, what if you set your time machine for a few centuries in the future, only to arrive and see giant cycads, with T. Rex strolling under them. A genetics experiment gone bad? A retaliation of evolution? Just a passing thought.
Future. I wanna see my grandchildren as grownups, maybe my great-grandchildren.
I'd want to travel into the future so I could come back to this forum and see how big the word association thread is.
Sorry to emote you lars. Meant Lon as any reader would know. Whatever PE is and has to do with creationism means squat to me. That evolution had leaps resulting from genetic mutation isn't an arguable with me. It's simply true. Our aruguements are concilable if you think about it.
Checked your link lars. Trust me, my Morbius came from the 1954 movie Forbidden Planet. This new guy is just an imposter and probably bad at it.
Genetic experiments usually go bad lars. That's why most all species since 65M years are now extinct. We're the success model. Evolution kinda gropes foreward in leaps but feel certain any genetic screwups we produce that look like a leap bad or good will have to conform to the old rules.

In any case, I do not subscribe to the "punctuated equilibrium" theory of evolution. PE is merely a crude stalking horse for Creationism. I am certain that evolution is continouous and thus Gen Y's little toe is (statistically) shorter than Gen X's, etc.
Surely we are continuously evolved from pond-scum.

Regarding time travel, I was priveledged to take a time-trip several years ago. There is an eccentric genius that I know who invented a time-travel machine. I don't know how it works but it required assuming a fetal position in an egg-shaped enclosure in his back yard. There were magnetics and herbalistics involved.
I opted to go forward in time for one year. He was not sure that he could bring me back if I went further. It was OK, I just wanted to see where the stock market would be. I saw that it was way down so I figured that when I got back I'd sell short and get rich.
But before I got back, I saw myself. I was broke so I figured that the the time-travel experience was bogus. Therefore, when I got back I did not sell short.
Sure enough, the stock market tanked and I went broke. The time travel worked, sort of.
A great experience and you broke even to boot!

I had a similar thought when I was planning a central asia trip. The Silk Road region especially gives that feeling of moving through time, with ancient cities, traditions, and landscapes that haven’t changed much for centuries. While searching for options, I found a central asia trip and decided to go for it instead of just reading about it. For me, it turned out to be a really good experience. The route felt like a journey through history, everything was well organized, and I could actually enjoy the places instead of worrying about logistics. It suited exactly what I was looking for something meaningful, not just another trip.Quote:
