The Best Anti Drug Commercial ever made is on TV these days.
It's about "Stacey". The commerical recounts all of the people who make it possible for Stacey to have her stash. It's told via a young girls voice.
"This is the "John" who supplies Stacy with her stash", (a shot of a pleased Stacy) ....
"This is the Dealer who sells "John" Stacy's stash"
"This is the Supplier who Supplies the Dealer with the stash that John buys to sell to Stacy"
"This is the little girl who was paralyzed by a stray bullet from the gun of a drug deal gone bad by Stacy's dealer"
...cut to Stacy looking shocked.
What's amazing about this commercial is the linking of violence and the end product. Can such social responsibility statements for legal products be far behind?
-
the best anti drug statement is the Uma Thurman overdosing scene in PULP FICTION. no one can claim that to be glamourising drugs.
-
But did she do it in 30 seconds?
-
there is nothing cool about anti-drug commercials.
there is nothing cool about anti-drug anything.
-
WOO-HOO!!! I'm a Shatouska fan!
It's a throwback to Nancy Regan "just say no" commercials, but without realizing they never worked in the first place. Supply & demand says the 'war' is gonna fail worse than the Vietnam conflict.
-
Pot is a dangerous drug because it appears to not be dangerous.
It causes loss of memory, binge eating, and, increased dependence on it as time goes on. I suppose we all use different things in life as a form of a drug.
My point to this topic post was the linking of the supplyline with the consequences in a commercial is a great thing, as it begins to tear down the mythic view of the world that American Advertisers, and Advertisers in general, heap upon the public.
-
your last line contradicted your first line
tag...you're it
-
Commercials on TV are not going to stop people from using drugs.
Commercials on TV are not going to make me go and buy nikes either.
-
i bet the actors in the commercial alex posted
were the stereotypical image, no doubt....

you obviously haven't seen SAVING GRACE.

going with SF's quote:
to alex--
how does 'pot' appear to be anything?
and, how would you suggest it appear to be dangerous???
-
Heroin does not appear to be threatening either. It appears to be a nice friendly white powder. The syringe may be somewhat threatening, but I am sure most people get over most of the fear of needles before they reach puberty.
-
Lets compare drugs to ordering desert after a meal.
Eventually, you begin to order 2, then 3 then 4 deserts after your meal.
That is the biggest problem with drugs, the amount needed increases over time. The other just as big of a problem is you really don't know what you are putting into your body, nor do you know the long-term effects.

i am still intensely fearful of needles and i am way over the hill (where puberty is concerned).
for this reason, i haven't the ability to shoot up heroin - or any other substance for that matter and if i am so unfortunate as to be beset with diabetes, i am only willing to take insulin in the form of a tablet. no syringes for me.
-
alex, methinks you have never smoked weed.
even if you have... you couldn't have smoked
if for long... prolly just to look cool a few times.
from 'round these parts, it is the common
concensus that the attitude you display in
concerns to marijuana is nothing more than
media hype blown way out of proportion.
at the risk of edging myself further from the
clan, allow me to publicly admit to my weed smoking.
that is... many years ago.
the problem with your thinking is the fact that,
as stated, i do not feel that you have been in
the situation...
and in thinking so, i shall offer rebuttal to your comments:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor=""><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Lets compare drugs to ordering desert after a meal.

good analogy, indeed.
i've never witnessed an individual become 'addicted'
to desserts... i don't care how chic the frosting is.
no one increases their dessert ordering...
thats simply ridiculous as an example.
secondly, you are wrong.
the reason why it appears that people are
addicted to weed (and probably most other illicit
drugs) is because they are illegal. when something
of that nature is restricted, it is often hard
to come by...
which, when in need or want, the circumstances
portray individuals 'sinking to lows' to get their
fix... or stockpiling goods, or increasing the habit.
that is because it is a rarity.
think.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor=""><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It causes loss of memory, binge eating, and, increased dependence on it as time goes on.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
again... over-played media hype.
loss of memory is the easiest mistake to make.
most subjects in the 'test' are usually tested
over a period of time, resulting in an evaluation
that is somewhat biased.
age also causes loss of memory.... eeegads!!!
the 'binge eating' commonly associated with weed
smoking is normal... however, i would not be so
quick to call it 'binge eating'.
upon smoking weed, you do have a natural tendency
to eat... however, the eating is not anything
beyond a normal snack anyone would have.
no one is hording ding-dongs in the closet for
their 'binge'.
as for dependence to weed...
i have already explained that in the other quote.
it has that illusion, when in fact, its not.
i easily stopped smoking weed at the drop of a hat.
another fallacy for claiming weed to create dependence
is the fact that most users already have established
mental/psychological disorders... which would mean
that they would 'depend' on just about anything
to make them feel secure.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor=""><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The other just as big of a problem is you really don't know what you are putting into your body,</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
this is an absurd statement created out of, once
again, too much hype.
anyone can easily attain information on what
is 'in' weed by roaming around online. however,
i assume you are referring to the paranoia
of 'wayward' growers and sellers supplimenting
their product with additional chemicals.
this would easily be avoided/controlled if weed
were legallized. people could grow their own
from seed...
the government could regulate the sale/dispursement
of seed and monitor growers/distributors to make
sure additional illicit ingredients are not used.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor=""><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">nor do you know the long-term effects.</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
this is the most absurd thing you have said.
it could easily be applied to any over the counter
flu medicine, birth control, asthema medicine, blah blah blah blah....
cmon, alex....... really........
-
first you say that the desert analogy is a good one, then you say it is ridiculous. The difference, people don't order themselves 2,3,4, deserts after a meal, but drug doses DO increase over time.
What I have not consumed myself I HAVE witnessed others consuming.
It usually becomes the number one agenda, usually becomes a daily occurence, and as time goes on, the day gets planned around it's use.
I find all of those characteristics proof that the drug takes over the person. That is what I don't like about drug use. It robs the person from your life, and unless you partake in the drugs, the drugs become more important to the person than your friendship.
-
A drug user who maintains ethics between tokes.
-
I still don't get you trying to steal my desert analogy. (Alex baps Shatzy on the wrist and takes back his pumpkin pie ala mode.)
It's my analogy, it works for my point of view, not yours.
-
it was a good analogy for ME in my argument, not yours.
thats the difference.
and what you have experienced is EVERYTHING of what i argued.
the day was centered around the situation because
it is so **** restricted you HAVE to.
you have to dedicate a part of time in your day
and be select about the people you know and blah blah blah.
what you are seeing and how you interpret it are two separate things.
-
Alex returns the pumpkin pie and comtemplates a cherry pie with a whipped topping.
-
nice pun....
-
perhaps its best to agree that it works for
both perspectives.
or do you wanna wrestle about it?
