quote:
I just got off the phone with Jim at JR and he told me that their 8psi upgrade is still going to use the same FPR with the same rising rate (5:1) as the one the 6psi guys are already using, and still use stock injectors. How is this going to work? Obviously they're not going to warranty anything and they said the price will be right around $500.

Don't forget this one

quote:
Now what will JR give you for $500? NADA $hit, a pulley, belt... maybe fuel pump and NO warranty. Total real world cost $225-250 WOW, what customer service.

Yeah, what a bunch of shit! I also just read the new SCC and JR did a Focus and in the article it talks about a "High-boost" kit from the 6psi kit for the damn Focus. THE F*CKING FOCUS KIT ISN'T EVEN AVAILABLE TILL JULY '00 http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif We Integra peeps and Civic guys had been trying to get this shit along time ago and to see that a High-boost upgrade is already in the works for a kit that isn't even available sucks! The article says "Jackson has plans to offer at least one high-boost kit, which will not only increase boost, but will appropriately alter fuel and ignition curves as well." Oh really http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/confused.gif Well the only thing that would satisfy me would be if they offer US, the ones who went out on a limb and tested the waters a upgrade for our ECU's but I don't know if that will happen. It is very strange to see they arent't changing the two "scetchy" parts of our setup (injectors & riser) but I guess they see us using them with only one casualty (1fstGSR) so run with it? What about that fuel pump that cuts out at 90psi http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/confused.gif I don't know, I really like what I have in my JRSC, but it really burns me to see stuff like this and I read about how the fuel system is not characteristic of "most" super charged systems. Now I don't know much about other systems but the tip-in detonation that we see is due to this supposed "momentary bog at tip-in when the mixture goes lean for a fraction of a second" that we are not supposed to experience because we have a JRSC http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/confused.gif Actually here is what the article say in the Honda Tuning issue if SCC "Of course, we wouldn't have said so many good things about the JR kit if it did this, so obviously it doesn't have that bog" Not I am guessing they don't have anyway to monitor the system (A/F or J&S or a set of good ears) because we ALL have the same problem don't we? They always talk about how great the fuel setup is and how instantaneous it works and pre-loaded this and that but man, it is far from perfect. JR did a great job of keeping the cost down and getting us a "Good" setup up but the whole industry seems to think it is perfect. They don't even talk about the sluggishness that comes from running 8 degrees of timing, and why do they all think that the TB position is not moved in any of the setups except the Si? My locaton moved, didn't yours? I think the best line I have read in a JRSC article was the line that says it "offers effectively seamless drivability on the street", I think it should actually read, "offers seamingly effective drivability on the street" http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif Now don't get me wrong, I do love my JRSC Teg but it is kinda like going to church and listening to the preacher talk about how great little Sarah Smith is when in reality she is the town whore. Not to say the JRSC kit sucks, but it is not perfect like the industry says over and over again. I originally wasn't going to say anything and just bite my tounge as I always do when I see this stuff but the whole Focus and the High-boost upgrade really got me going. Well, what do you guys think of all this?

The last time I talked with anyone at JR, it was Keith. He told that their salespeople were supposed to discourage people from going 8psi to absolve JR of liability and to not increase the number of "A JRSC blew up my engine" stories floating around.
This made sense and still makes sense.
I have a feeling the marketing and sales departments at JR have taken over and the technical guys are being left to take the fall.
We all know JR is out to make money. That's not a bad thing. Go USA. But if some shortsighted business man has decided to milk the cash cow (our kits!) for all it's worth and screw the future, that is a bad thing.
Here's another idea: The Honda community has figured out how to improve the kit and increase boost w/o any parts sold by JR. We know what an 8psi kit should cost, therefore, JR can't charge a premium, therefore they don't bother servicing us.
However, the Focus community probably has no clue what they are doing (yet!) with FI and remains a market segment where a high-boost kit can be sold at a premium. In comes JR, ready to rake in the dough.
Good? Bad? I don't know. If I owned JR and felt that most of my Honda customers will probably graduate to turbo's rather than buy more goodies from me, I might do just what they are doing. i.e. Looking for the richest market to service.
YMMV,
Greg

Mr Rogers,
When I was talking to Jim at JR, and he told me they're going to use the same FPR, I said to him, "and everything is working OK with that FPR at 8psi?" He said, "yeah, it works great, no problems whatsoever." I didn't want to get into an arguement with him but I think we see JR's profit-hungry mentality coming out.
They're obviously taking shortcuts to meet the demand of higher boost applications and covering their ass by not offering a warranty.
I just hope that anyone that's interested in buying a JR supercharger kit will look at resources like this board so they can profit from other's experiences, and won't be suckered into accepted whatever JR tells them.

As I've said many times before, all JR ever thinks about is money, he even laughs about how he rips people off, I mean come on the JRSC is a piece of shit to begin with. 500$ for a pulley/belt and no warranty, fun fun fun..

Let's jsut make sure it is VERY clear that this is Jim at Jackson Racing and not Jim JRCivic. I was really confused at first when I saw this
quote:
When I was talking to Jim at JR, and he told me they're going to use the same FPR, I said to him, "and everything is working OK with that FPR at 8psi?" I mean, I guess it works "fine enough" for someone who doesn't drive a JRSC car but the tip-in is reason enought to get rid of it, let alone the crazy fuel pressure it is "pre-loaded" and baselined at. This = bad (in the long run) for the stock injectors that they don't plan on upgrading.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in my original reply. I believe Mr Rogers got my quote off another thread in which I posted what Jim at Jackson Racing had told me.
Our Jim (JRCivic) would never claim that the 5:1 JR FPR is sufficient for 8psi. (or at least I wouldn't think he would)
By the way, Mr Rogers, what's your AIM screen name, if you have one?

I just wanted to say thanks to all of the FI guys on here. I've never posted here before, I just lurk and soak up whatever information I can.
All the information all you guys post is appreciated. I've been able to learn a lot even though I have absolutely zero experience myself.

Jay - man you are going off. I feel you on this one. I hate Jackson Racing. Don't get me wrong I love my kit and will probably buy another one when this one goes or when my motor goes(over 104k) and I go w/ the GSR conversion. But, JR doesn't give a damn http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif about us who actual try to tweak the most performance out of our set-ups. I know that many do not trust the guys at Endyn, but Larry and his guys are the only ones(besides us here) that are helping with the performance aspects of our kits. I read the SCC article on the SC'd Focuz. It made me laugh at how they compared it to a stock SI. But yet didn't compare it to a SC'd EX or DX. My coupe with nothing removed(w/ 565 watt Orion stereo system) and 17in Konig Octanes runs a 15.4 @88mph. What a JOKE! My question is why didn't Honda offer the damn D16y8 or B16A2 in a hatch? I have a newly installed JRSC and I really wish I went turbo. I'm not impresed at all with the way the car drives, especially on warm days. I basically get the same problems as a turbo kit, with about 30 less HP.
I'm having constant belt squeeking, even after tightening them and all the stories about broken FMU's is really starting to worry me.
Its come to the point I am seriously considering selling the kit with only about 200 miles on it.
-
Damn 4 Door, I am sorry to hear that you are ready to get rid of it already. I know for one, I have had a problem free (except for the FPR) Kill filled (don't forget about the Ferrari) 10k and I do love it. But that fact that we have seamingly been forgotten about by JR sometimes makes me wish I went turbo (Drag III BB & Tial wastegate http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif). That and the fact that my car doesn't make that sweet assed PPPSSTTT sound http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I am thinking that after the fuel up grade (& maybe Nitrous) I will leave the blower alone and move on to the Body Kit (Buddy Club), new wheels (something in Gun metal), sponsor route. I have one sponsor but I am looking for some big name sponsors and hope that being stranded in Nebraska will work to my advantage http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Tons of peeps know about me all over this state and even into the surrounding areas. But I think I am done with the power increase on the blower side. Who would have thought we wouldn't get anything more from JR??? I second the CR-V commment http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

As far as the fuel is concerned. I think that a VAFC will help out a lot. I have a solution for someone that is at least half as cheap. I have a Field Hyper R SFC and it can do what the VAFC does but not as elegantly. I have used this on my JRSC with 12 psi and 310cc injectors daily at 20 degrees farenheit. I was able to have a perfect idle and I gained 5whp througout the powerband with a fuel increase while in boost. I will sell it for 150.00 OBO. If interested, email [email protected].
Ask JRCivic he saw my car.

Being an owner of my third supercharger (two vortechs previous, Mustang and Trans Am), I'd have to say that the JRSC is a pretty sweet setup and fairly trouble free so far. I compare supercharging to cocaine addiction, you can never have enough. Keep it all in perspective by knowing that before and after power is a lot better, and it's only 1800cc's of motor.

Thanks for the offer Lithiasis but I am going the "mechanical" route with the larger fuel rail (STR or maybe an AEM now) Vortech adjustable regulator and Cartech. The Vortech and Cartech are in the mail right now and I just have to decide on the rail. I have "Our" solution to "Our" problem but I just thought I would vent on "Their" practice of hyping up the system to the high hills and then "Us" in the real world being stuck with fixing the problems and building on the kit with no support (seems like) from JR http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif What is very F*cked up is that it does seriously seem that the salesmen & techs are left to deal with us (Shawn & Keith) and try and make it all better when possible. They do a great job of this and the guys help us out alot but they can't carry JR on their backs.

The answer to the CRV question is------
It was built because Jackson's wife bought a CRV. BTW they stopped work on the LS Integra kit to the CRV kit and then went back and finished the LS kit.
My question is with all the people who are disgruntled with JR and company, why aren't you guys pursuing other forms of SC. Vortex and Paxton both have Counter rotating units. I know Vortex is working on a system for the Si but if enough intrest is shown i a sure they would look at the Tg line also. There is also the company Scan Power and there Rotrex SC. Last time I posted something about a company called Civinco (civinco.com) there was little to no reply. As a RS owner I understand the frustrations caused by the "reasoning" of JR but, at least I am looking elsewhere and showing support to other companies for at least trying to come up with something.
Sorry for the long post.

Just to confirm, yes I heard the same exact thing about the CR-V kit. Also, the TypeR kit got preferential treatment over the LS even though there are AT MOST 2000 per year running around the US and Canada, and many of the owners arent interested in modifying their "limited edition" vehicle. And then the LS kit came out with the smaller blower from the Civic kit. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif
-
I'm certainly not against supporting alternate platforms (but thought I heard the Vortex blew their motor on one of their first public showings?)
Really though, to my knowledge there have been no alternative SC's to even consider. (not in any real concrete sense like product, service, support, just waiting to be bought)
One thing's for sure -- one of JR business pratices, such as promising delivery dates of items (and then not delivering, delaying, etc,) would make me have no problem spending hundred of dollars more on a competitor's product if I actually had the choice.
And it's not that I don't like the JR SC, I do...but damn
-
I hate to burst anyones bubbles here but they did not stop the LS to work on the CRV kit cause OJ wife got a CRV. It is a numbers game honda sells 200000 CRVs a year compare to 30000 tegs. What market do you want to be in?
k
-
I don't follow your reasoning. And I was told the story about the wife directly from someone at JR when I firstr was looking into it. If they lied to me, so be it.
The G3 Integra platform has been out since 94. The CR-V did appear till 1997.
They made a kit for the GSR, which is the only VTEC in the lineup (say, 30% of all Integras), and then the TypeR (say, 5% of all Integras). And the LS/GS/RS kit still came out last of all.
Dont know when the CR-V kit came out, the geometry of the B18 and the B20 are pretty similar.
The G3 Integra has a sporty image and demographic, I'd be curious to see how many CR-Vs are running around with JRSCs, seeing as how they appeal primarily to women and people who want the SUV experience without buying a "real" SUV (not that it would go off road anyway but thats another discussion).
-
Just remeber, Jackson Racing has promised lots of upgrade kits in lots of articles, and none of them (except the miata and the older civic kits) have come out. The Focus and Neon kits will be out for 5 years before JR releases an "official" upgrade kit. I have never had anything but the best of service when I deal with Keith, Shawn, and Oscar. Good tech advice with minimal fuss. Now granted, they do have to worry about the company a little, so you have to take what they say with some salt. I just think that the performance community moves too fast for the cutting-edge manufacturer. And JR is pretty cutting-edge for the Honda world, no one else has a mass-produced, emmissions legal kit shipping.

We if you look at the demograghics for LS/RS buyer they are not really preformance people either. Most of the non vtec buyers are woman also. So if you say that 1% of CRV owners will buy a SC that is 2000 SC sales. Say there was 20000 LS/RS tegs last year and 5% of the owners will buy a SC that is still only a 1000 SC kits per year. You see the math now. It is numbers plain and simple that is why JR put more effort in the CRV SC then the LS/RS. Just look at the number of people here with moded ls/rs car compared to the GSRs.

Javin... and everyone else reading this: PAY CLOSE ATTENTION !!!
Do not give up hope on JR. I can tell you that although it seems that JR has turned their backs on us GSR guys, they have been quietly creating products to help us in our quest for more power for many months now. Now, before you go and ring their phone off the hook... DON'T BOTHER. The parts that I am referring to here are either top secret (and the sales guys don't know about it) or are soooo new that they cannot talk about it yet.
Just know that there is REALLY NEAT SHIT coming soon... be patient. Oscar didn't make this kit overnight, why do you think wild tuning parts would require less time ???

DAMN I LOVE DAT GUY http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I didn't not post this to say to the world,"F*CK JR AND F*CK ALL THAT THEY STAND FOR". This was a let off steam about what I see happening in plain view and dealing with on a daily basis post. These great mag articles are becoming more and more numerous as time passes and even if it doesn't happen for 5 years, they are still talking about publicly it aren't they? But it surely pleasures me to hear that JR is working on "Something" for us and what ever it is will be better then nothing, except for some damn upgrade kit that isn't near to being complete as we all know what is "really" needed. But one thing I do worry about is, Will it still help us after we have figured it out on our own? Granted, I bet there are alot of nea sayers and other JRSC owners who don't know about our little camp here and don't even plan on upgrading but "WE" are doing the "Cutting edge" foot work here, at least it seems that way. If it weren't for JRCivic and people like Larry over at Endyne who knows what we would be doing right now, I doubt that I would have wondered this far into the waters w/ out them. THANKS http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gifIt is def. nice to see that even if someone (we won't name any names http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif) says they hate JR, that they still will fight to the teeth in a Turbo/SC battle and still claim JR as the savior of "OUR" cars http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif and that kind of following doesn't come along too often, I mean look at Ford and the Pinto. When people saw what was happening with those things (dead people vs blown motors or snail paced developement) they were like,"F*CK Ford for making this peice of sh*t, I'll never buy another". I enjoy contributing to the "Healthy and Constructive" critizim (WTF! how the hell do you spell that?) of JR. HELL, I am sure somebody is watching http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Reddelsol,
I agree there are currently no other production SC kits out there for us, however there are other companies trying to develop them. As for Vortex blowing an engine, so what? How many engines have been blown by a turbo and people keep buying them? I believe I have read of at least six people blowing their engines with the JR kit and no not all of them modified it. Remember most of the guys on this forum say the kit is not a plug and play it still needs some tuning to perform its best. Besides I am glad Vortex blew up there engine (Fuel problem by the way, ran lean I believe. Charger worked just fine.) that gave them a chance to experience first hand what one of their potential customers may encounter and provides the oppurtunity to get the kit right before selling it, unlike what another SC kit manufacturer did. I recommend e-mailing Vortex, Paxton, Scanpower and any other SC producer and campaigning for a kit. It is what I do.

Redline,
AS The LS Avenger said I too recieved my info of the CR-V kit versus LS kit from a JR employee. It was not a numbers thing. Are you just speculating or is that some inside info that the employees were unawre of? Now, I am not anti-JR, but like others here I do not like some of the things the Company (and/or whomever is running it) does. And yes, some of my problem is resentment towards the fact that I feel shafted as a potenial customer by the length of time it took them to develop the kit for my car and the fact they used a smaller charger. I have an e-mail which gives the reason for the smaller charger as a fitment problem, Quote "We could not get the M62 charger to fit on the car. We ground through the case on a 62 trying to get it too fit." Later as people begin to complain about it, I read somewhere that JR said it was a problem with the engine not spinning the charger fast enough at lower RPMs and caused bogging or some other bull. All the while I remember the very first article I read in SCCR about a JR kit. It was on a Delsol. In the article Jr mentioned that the kits he developed for the non-vtec civic engine made as more power than the vtec kit and ran smoother because it did not have a vtec switch point to contend with. He also mentioned their plans to develop the Integra kits and how he was expecting the same results. My question to you, what happened there?
I am grateful to the people at JR for devloping the kits that they have, but I am not happy with their attitude of "We are the only game around, play our way or don't play"

As soon as I can get my hands on a digital camera you'll see a M62 attached to a B18b, in the engine bay of an LS.
Until then, you can judge for yourself whether a M62 can fit by looking at one here:

Its on a engine stand but you get the idea.
