I too don't know too much about turboes but I would go with the Drag BB kit. Private party is def. going to need more stuff, you don't know what condition the turbo it in. It could need a rebuild and that is gonna cost you. Now the Drag is a very "Street" proven kit and The approach Drag took with the kit was to give the "biggest" for the "best". (turbo & price) The Drag kit is reported to be able to handle 500hp if the motor can deal with it, so you will always have an upgradeable kit. The sh*t fit the first time (from most of the reports) and it is a pretty straight forward in stall after getting the oil pan tapped for the oil line. I am sure Mark C will see this and chime in so I will leave it at that. Oh yeah, you will need to junk that Delta-leak (Deltagate wastegate) as 75% of the Drag guys have reported problems with them and there is a group buy going right now for both the turbo kits and the Tial wastegates http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif Good luck man.

The private party kit is a much better deal though. Better parts too...right? Plus, even though I will have to add like 500 worth of additional parts, that's still about 1000 less than a Drag 3.

I've got two turbo kits I'm looking at. Here's the facts on both of them, maybe you guys can tell me which is better.

cost: about 2800 (+ 500 to upgrade to ball bearing turbo)

I'm no turbo expert, but the "private party" turbo will certainly need extra components to handle what the:
bosch external fuel pump
vortech fpr
MAP bypass valve
listed in the name brand package do for the kit.
That's got to be at least $500 more.
If the person/shop putting together the "private" kit say you don't need these, I'd be suspicious.

Not to mention, the DRAG Gen3 kit comes with an air filter. I happen to have a DRAG kit myself and I know that I saved alot of time when I tried to piece a kit 'similar' to your private party kit together. And if you can, try to get the HKS wastegate option for your DRAG kit.

By the time you finish buying the parts you need, you will have spent well over the amount of the drag 3. Downpipe, checkvalves,fpr or fmu. I'd go with the drag I have a custom kit and I've had to almost start from scratch rebuilding,I don't recomend doing that. C

WHAT? what are you guys smoking?? Yes the Drag kit is tried and true.. but c'mon... $2800 for a Drag 3?? you can find them for less than $2500 brand new...
The Private kit has WAAAY BETTER components than the drag 3.. first off the BB turbo itself is almost $1500... you are getting everything else for free practically..
So what if you need to buy extra parts.. all you need is a Fuel Pump $150, FMU ($150), and check valves ($10)
GEEZ guys wake up!! Adding all the additional costs of components doesn't even come close to the additional $1300 for the D3 kit.. the money he saves can be used to buy larger injectors and a new clutch and even an V-AFC to boot.. (or a new wastegate)
Up to you though.. your car, just my opinion.. but i'm sure most would agree.

That custom one looks hard to turn down, but w/o seeing it first hand, I cannot presume to judge its completeness. I have seen the DRAG3 and it is worth the $2700 I paid. Like I said tho $1500 is hard to turn down for the components listed, but still.... Look more into it before dropping the $1500.

MarkC: Good point.. for $1500 you can't beat that.. I'd pay $1500 just for the BB turbo and HKS intercooler.. the intercooler itself retails for $1000 new
Anyways.. just make sure its blowing smoke or dumping oil before you buy it.. the other stuff you can visual inspect it to see if its in good working order or not..

BTW, he said the turbo was a "Supra IHI ball bearing turbo" Any idea what size this is and if it is appropriate for a B18C?

Also, where does one buy a brand new Drag 3 for 2500?? All of the group buys I have seen go as low as 2650 and that's only if there are 10+ people.

i heard that IHI turbochargers are really good though.. but yes.. it sounds like the private party turbo kit needs more parts.. but the parts you are buying are more high quality than some that come with the drag kit..
then again the drag kit works great already.. its up to you

If the turbo came OFF a Supra it's prolly gonna be SUPER laggy on a Teg motor. IHI makes good turbos (APEX works on them), but if it's an actual "Supra" turbo, I'd be hesitant to install one on a B18C.
