Best Reality Show Moments

For those of us who track various reality shows like Big Brother, Survivor, the Mole, etc. What are some of your favorite moments?

I have to say my all time favorite reality moment, is from Survivor 3. When Ethan, Frank, Teresa, Kim and Clarence threw the immunity competition in order to toss off Silas.

Watching Silas running his ass off trying to win, then cut to Ethan taking his time, not working up a sweat. Too too funny. From my armchair at home, prior to the competition I was thinking that it would be best if they lost so they could kick off Silas, but wasn't sure they had the b@lls to do it. But throw it they did. At no other time on Survivor has any team thrown a competition for immunity.

Yep, that was a truly great Survivor moment. That whole show didn't do a lot for Gen-Xers, did it? The kinda announced, "We're lazy, selfish and stupid, and proud of it!" Not that other Gen-Xers haven't been hardworking on other Survivors. But there always seem to be a generation gap, especially in work ethic.

How about when Jerri got voted out? "Check mate. You got me." Classic! I think the whole country cheered that one.

What do you think of the promo for this week's show?

Me, I'm a big fan of The Mole and Amazing Race, too. Watched Big Brother over the summer just because nothing else was on. At least Lisa won there. I'd have been very disappointed if Danielle had one. Goes to show you can't treat people that way and then expect them to give you half a million dollars! She shouldn't have acted so cocky in her diary room sessions.

I'm a big fan of The Mole. I like that rather than out and out pitting each player against the other, they have to work as teams. And that to win they have to figure out clues. The voting each other off gets to be a popularity contest or who has the best alliance. The Mole actually makes them think. I also think it would be a cool show to be on. They get to go a lot of cool places.

I'm glad Lisa won BB3 as well. There have been a lot of comparisons to Danielle playing the game that Will did last year. I think that is flat out wrong. Will never played that he was holier than the other players. He told them to their face not to trust him, that his strategy was to lie. Danielle claimed others were lying but she told the truth. Will was flat out funny in his DRs. If he slammed people it was the truth in a amusing way that they could forgive him for later.

BB2 wasn't a case of evil winning over good like many claim. Yeah, Will won in part for his strategy, but he also won the popularity contest portion of the game. Nicole was a nasty to a lot of people, including herself. She was a most cranky houseguest. I would have given Will the money just for spending those last few days alone with her. Will *almost* lost the game due to his speech at the end telling everyone to stuff it if they didn't like him. But in the end, noone wanted to give Nicole the money, making Will more like Lisa, than Danielle.

Josh and Danielle's plans were flawed. It isn't enough to play strategy, you also have to form bonds with people so they *want* to vote with you. You won't win the prize simply for being the most sneaky or annoying. If Josh had made it to the end as the person everyone wanted to go against (his plan) he would have lost as well.

Reality shows really are fascinating, because it all comes down to human nature. What are you willing to do to win money? How do you hold up in a high stress situation forced to co-habitate with a dozen strangers.

Personally, last nights Amazing Race had a moment that had me wishing I had recorded it and watched West Wing just so I could save this one clip. The Blonde Female Harvard Law students (that is how they bill themselves) are in a donkey cart trying to decide between sky diving and riding a slow donkey cart. As they stand up to exit the cart and return to the plane (it was close by) the cart falls down and the ladies end up falling on their faces.

I don't know, there was something very humerous and satisfying about watching two intelligent women who have decided to use the "we are stupid blondes strategy" fall flat on their faces. It made me laugh

Last night's Survivor absolutely rocked! That the young punk tribe lost the reward because they kept breaking rules was just too funny! And I've grown to absolutely despise Robb. So watching him whine about losing was oh so funny.

The immunity challenge was great, too. I swear, Robb and Jed are so dumb! Robb couldn't find his own head with both hands and a flashlight. Jed: laziness and stupidity in one package. Wow. That tribe will be better when they've purged Jed, Robb and Stephanie. Shi Ann makes me laugh so hard!

What do you all think of the Ghandia/Ted mess?

heheheh the fact that all of the twits kept breaking the same rule was flat out hilarious. At least Ted would call out "Am I in the box?" before attacking someone. I loved how pissed Probst was getting with the purple team (no offense but I can't spell the tribe names this year)

The immunity challenge was relativly easy f you have half a brain. Then again, the purple team struggles in the area of brain power. I was hoping that they would toss Todd but I guess losing Jed works.

I also loved that they kept showing where the fishing net was and how the tribe could not find it. What a bunch of morons.

I thought that the reward was very cool. The idea of getting professional survival help was excellent.

As for Ted and Ghandia. The first time they talked, Ghandia did not mention Ted biting her or rubbing his hands in her hair. All she mentioned was the grinding, which Ted owned up to and apologized profusly for. Then Ghandia tells the camera that she is embellishing her story by saying that Ted bite her. By the time the entire tribe meets, Ghandia seems to have convinced herself that Ted had bit her. No offense, but I am with Ted on this one. He screwed up, he apologized, he said it would not happen again. Ghandia lied about what happened when she told othes and then convinced herself that her lie really happened. I want to hear what she says when she is voted off. The tape shows that she made up part of her story and her admitting to making up a part of the story.

I think Ghandia and Shi Ann are the ones to watch out for. The person they want gone, goes.

Ghandia set Ted up I believe, now I'm not saying he didn't touch her inappropriately, but I believe she lured him into acting that way so she could have something to use against him. First she lost the game the first week and cried and got the guy who seemed to be the best at getting the tribe together to do things tossed out. Last week she got throw up girl tossed, and this week, she tried to pit the tribe against Ted, in case they lost this week's game. I think Chuay Ghan would be better off without her, she's the major Drama queen and the sneaky devious one.

And yes, it would be nice to see Robb tossed next from the Pretty Team "Sook Jai".

It's so funny, when they were picking teams, everyone was laughing at the older lady because she deliberately avoided picking the pretty people because she knew they weren't survivors. And the Pretty team was making fun of them saying basically, "How can they win, come on look at us". And yet, they don't have a clue how to survive in the wilderness or work together and the one real important thing for their long haul was to win the two Berets last night to shape them up, and they choked by being too aggressive. Sook Jai may be better at the games now, but if they don't get the survival in the Wilderness thing down, it's gonna wear them down and Chuay Ghan is gonna start winning the contests.

And Robb saying, "Oh we didn't need them anyway, I was hoping they'd bring some food instead", maybe we coulda used 'em to help with the shelter, but that's about it.

I'm with both of you on Ted/Ghandia. She really blew things out of proportion. I think Clay and Brian are on to her. Not sure about Helen and Jan, though. I'm hoping they figure it out, but it has the look of a divide along sex lines. Probably Ghandia's plan all along. Yes, she must be feeling vulnerable as the next likely candidate for an ouster. She can't perform in the physical challenges, and the puzzle she couldn't solve in the first immunity challenge wasn't tough. We shall see.

Like I said, I can't stand Todd. He's all movement and no thought. God didn't hook up the left half of his brain, if you ask me.

Shi Ann is cool, I hope she does well. Thus far I don't have a problem with her, Erin, Penny, Jake or Ken. They might be okay.

BTW, the poll at the official CBS site shows that people overwhelmingly believe Ghandia blew the whole mess out of proportion.

I call them the Chewies and the Sookies.

Ghandia seems to have several issues. And she blew them WAY out of proportion, most likely on purpose. She deserves the boot in a big way. At a time when the team should be bonding together and kicking the crap out of the sookies, they are infighting because Ghandia is a insecure (insert not nice word). Ghandia may be playing the game, but she is playing the wrong one. You don't work on division until the tribes merge. United works better in the competitions. If your tribe is down members it is all over when you merge.

The Chewies and definately the issue tribe. The Sookies are definately the lughead tribe. That competition was too damn funny. I was feeling pretty bad for the Chewies, but as the penalties started stacking up I began to think they had a chance. When Clay was walking non-chalantly with the last basket I LMAO. Walk slower Clay!

The immunity competition was interesting. When it was again obvious that the Chewies had won and Jed was still trying to finish theirs. And then the lost puppy look on his face as the realization set in.

Well Chuay Ghan lost again, but on the plus side Ghandia has changed her name to Gone-Diva. Her plan backfired on her, and now maybe the team can unite itself. She was so foolish to be so aggressive with the whole set Ted up thing. I agree, as a team, it would have been a bad idea to get rid of Ted, he is the biggest one. Getting rid of Clay may have been a good idea too, but I think then Ghandia woulda set her sights on someone else the next time they lost (at what point do the tribes merge?)

Sook Jai, too bad we have to deal with Robb awhile longer. Poor Stephanie, she's the only one in the tribe who does anything, 5 people to tend the fire, geez. And Shii Ann, trying to make it look as if Stephanie didn't want help with their dummy (the stuffed one that is), I'm not sure I'm buying that, she looked pretty upset to be doing it all by herself. Unless of course she was so fed up with no one chipping in, it was a case of, "oh, just let me do it, it'll never get done if you try". That Shii Ann is the one to watch out for and stay on her good side (she's Sook Jai's Ghandia)

Adding to past great moments, how about when Will tricked Nicole into letting go of the sheets in that finale immunity challenge?

I think Will has been one of my favorite contestants ever. I don't think anyone has ever understood how to play the game better and have a good time.

Well, Chuay Ghan definitely got the better end of the reward challenge and They also won the immunity challenege. Unfortunately I believe Jan will be the next one to go when they lose the immunity challenge next, although I would prefer to see Clay go. I've heard some people though, say they think Clay will be around along time because he'll be easy to beat when it's gets down near the end. Helen did the right thing betraying Ghandia, the tribe was much more cohesive without her disrupting influence. Too bad about the boat running off though.

Sook Jai lost, and Shii Ann and Stephanie were on the chopping block. I didn't like Shii Ann much the first couple weeks, but I have grown an affection for her, and I think Stephanie was my favorite Sook Jai, too bad they took her out, they'll have a tougher time accomplishing things that actually require work, 'cause none of them really likes to lift a finger. Rob and Ken look like they're gonna be getting into it next week, I don't like that Rob one little bit and hope he's gone next.

I would say that Robb is the most detestable Survivor to date. That is saying something, when you consider the likes of Richard Hatch, Jerri Manthey, Silas, Boston Rob, and Neleh. That guy is a spoiled, lazy, brainless wonder. "Dude, does the left half of your brain work?"

Ah, Heather and Eve. They really made Harvard Law proud, didn't they? Can't read simple instructions that tell them to "walk" to a given place, decide it means that they should walk the last few steps after the cab lets them off. I don't think I'd want them interpreting contracts for me. However, they would appear to have a future on the Florida or New Jersey Supreme Courts.

Buh'bye, Robb with two "b"s. Here's some lovely parting gifts. Now I can actually like the Sookies. On the Chewies, there's not many folks really to like. I admire Helen in some ways. Clay is a bit of a jerk. Jan is just plain goofy-stupid. Ted, I just kinda have a bad taste after the Ghandia bit. Brian, I dunno if he was teasing about gender roles.

At least with the Sookies, I find Shii Ann very entertaining. Ken really showed leadership and maturity in taking doofus aside and straightening him out. Jake has been a quiet leader as well. Penny and Erin are flying so low under the radar, they are hard to figure.

"It means we walk into the Pit Stop" I nearly died when I heard them say that. Since when does walk mean take a taxi? What the heck are they teaching at Harvard Law school? The Heather says on Good Morning America that it was the camera mans fault because when she and Eve were discussing do they have to walk or can they take a cab, he got into the cab. What BS.

Robb is gone, thank god. Ken is cute so I am enjoying his getting more air time. (grins)

LOL ROTFLMAO Oh my god was that great. The merge that did not happen. I was wondering what was going on. There was no "choose a new name" ceremony. There were no new buffs. There was the "merger" feast and that is about it. But there was no merge.

Mark B. scored some major points. This is just too cool.

Shii Ann was booted because she assumed there was no merge. If there had been, she was in good shape for a little while.

Now that is a change in the game.

Yea, Shii Ann really screwed herself. She coulda saved herself, Ken tried to give her a chance. When Ken asked her straight up, she shoulda said right then, she wasn't really in bed with them, she wasn't telling any secrets, etc, she was just getting inside their heads.

I've never actually watched prior to this season, so I didn't see any of the clues PC pointed out in the last post, I believed they were merging, and thought Shii Ann was doing the smart thing, although I thought she shoulda presented a better face on it when Ken asked her about it. If they had actually merged, Ken coulda gotten all of Sook JAi to vote against Shii Ann and then would've just needed to turn one guy from Chuay Ghan and the other two woulda followed suit, so she may have been out if the merge actually had happened.

So, Chuay Ghan is now one tribe member up on Sook Jai. Sook Jai loves Chuay Ghan's island, LOL.

Well, I will miss Shii Ann. She was funny and smart. They all blew it by not realizing they hadn't "merged" - no new buffs was a big clue there. I wonder how long it will be that they continue having tribe vs. tribe before they go to individual immunities and rewards?

Now, if I can be a guy just a minute. Shii Ann must have the best bod of any Survivor ever.

That was a great moment, wasn't it? "You'll never see my ta tas!" I howled laughing at that one. Yeah, gonna miss the Shii Devil.

I also cracked up at Ted painting his whole head gold!

Sook Jai lost immunity a 4th week in a row. They were two tribe members up, now they're two down.

I think Clay is the only one left on either tribe that I really dislike. Penny and Bryan are both snakes, but I don't dislike them.

Was Ken serious, were Chuay Ghan really peeing inside their cave? Or perhaps that was their friend the monkey. Boy that monkey sure is a piece of work, messing with their food like that, and I didn't actually see the circumstances of the boat drifting away a few weeks ago (I was out of the room or turned my back to the TV or something I guess), but I got the distinct impression back then that the monkey was responsible for the boat leaving. Not a very nice tribe member.

Poor Jan she had such an awful time holding the chicken's legs.

Can someone fill me on the whole Jury thing and the how things work when the tribes merge, and when/why they merge?

every other season of Survivor when there were 10 people left, the two tribes merged into one tribe. This was meant to make it easier on the film crew (one beach instead of two) but also to create new relationships, dynamics, alliances and the like. At the time of the merge, immunity becomes individual. So one person wins immunity and cannot be voted off the island instead of a tribe not having to go the tribal council.

What has happened in every season is that tribal alliances have stayed strong after the merge. The only season that this did not happen with was last years and only because the alliance of four were complete idiots. Normally, old tribe members try and vote off people who were not in thier original tribe. This is why I think that they changed things this year. It doesn't matter what happens at the merge, one tribe will gain the upper hand anyway and then boot the other tribe.

This seasons liv eon the same beach but don't merge was huge. Everyone thought that the tribes had merged. This lead to Shii Ann trying to make an alliance with CG in order to get rid of Penny and Erin and protect herself. Problem being, there was no merge. Immunity was still based on tribe and SJ lost. Shii Ann went bye-bye.

Now the jury. The jury are the final 7 survivors voted out of the tribe. These 7 will choose the winner. What happens is that each week, the tribe members voted out will return for tribal council. They will sit in and listen to what is said, it is how they learn what has happened in the game. In the last episode, the Jury has an oppertunity to ask the last two survivors questions or make a statement. This is normally a fun show because the Jury is normally pissed that they are not in ap lace to win, complain about backstabbing, and generally act nasty. Then they vote for who should win.

Thanks PC, excellent explanation. You teach that well and your students still don't catch on, sheesh, no wonder you stress on the test failure's.

I can't imagine Ken, being a cop had such a difficult following directions. I'd like to think it was the thai numbers that threw him, but in that part of the competition the translation was on the wall, the first part (actually having to remember the numbers) was tougher, I would think.

Too bad they took out Ken, (I liked him, he had a lot of loyalty, and played pretty maturely) but, I think he dug his own grave, constantly reminding everyone how big a threat he was with individual immunity. Thought for sure Jake had voted for Ken when he said "I didn't really wanna have to do this". But when they showed the votes at the end, he and Penny remained true to Ken. Are Jake and Penny gonna be able to make an alliance and keep themselves alive longer, or are they gonna get picked off as lack of immunity allows?

In his interviews, Ken has said that he did not nderstand the directions that Jeff gave. At some point he had to go to Jeff and ask him to explain the rules again, which is why Clay stomped him so badly.

Well this week we lost Penny. Smart move she was a threat to Brian and Clay's Alliance building. Also, anyone who sides with Jake, would have to worry about Penny being able to make Jake's vote stronger when it got down to the wire.

Helen and Ted really need to side with Jake now, if they want to break Clay and Brian.

Clay has done extremely well in the events the last 3 weeks. Someone said he'll be around for quite a while because he would be less of a threat down this close to the wire. That appears not to be so. I so want anyone to win other than Clay and Brian.

I couldn't believe how hurt and rejected TEd looked when Clay helped Brian over the wall. First, Clay and Brian were partners from the beginning of the event. Clay tried to help both of them over. Of course being a physical event, Clay would choose the lighter of the two, plus he had partnered wth Brian from the beginning of the event.

There's not really anyone left to like, is there? I don't like Helen's class envy. I don't like Clay's chauvanism. Brian is getting way too cocky, and demonstrates some chauvanism as well. Ted, I dunno. Jan is a total flake. Jake has no chance. Sigh, is this going to be as disappointing as the Vecepia-Neleh final from last year?

I like Ted and Jake. I'd like to see Ted win it.

I was sorry when they took out Shi Ann, she was cool. The criticisms she took because she ate chicken parts confused me. We always ate the giblets - they are eaten in giblet gravy and dressing anyway. Besides if you are starving you eat everything, and those parts are quite edible and nutritious.

Helen is OK too, I wouldn't mind if she stayed longer.

Well, Helen, Jan, and Ted were very stupid, they all voted for Jake. There is very little chance they can break up the Clay/Bryan alliance now. Had they been smart, they all woulda voted with Jake to remove Clay or Bryan and then it coulda been anyone's game. I really wanted Jake to win immunity this week, 'cause I don't want Bryan or Clay to win the game. All Clay and/or Bryan need to do is convince one of the other three next week that they (clay or Bryan)are on their (Helen, Jan or Ted) side and will betray the other (Clay or Bryan) in the final vote and side with them instead. Bryan's already got that going with Helen it seems. I don't believe Bryan will choose Helen over Clay in the final vote, though.

I agree and am sorry that Clay is still there. He is so annoying! Possibly everyone thinks he isn't much of a threat. I wondered if Jake might not be cutting his own throat by expounding on his hard work and productiveness. It seems to me that one tries not to be threat at this point.

I suspect though that in the end it was because he was the last of his tribe.

Does anyone know why Helen didn't vote for Clay? She tried to talk Bryan into it after all.

Any conjectures on who is going tonight?

I'm guessing either Helen or Jan. Probably Helen since she appears to be a bigger threat than Jan.

This is assuming that the men will stick together.

If the men don't stick together then I'd guess Ted.

I think Ted is wary of Brian/Clay. Though Brian has always assured Ted they have an alliance, of course we know he's convinced Clay and Helen of the same thing. Ted's been especially wary since Clay helped Brian in the reward challenge and then Brian chose Clay to accompany him when he won. So Ted can be won over to vote out Clay. But Helen won't necessarily go against Brian's wishes, if for instance he says to get rid of Jan.

I have no idea what Jan is thinking, if she even thinks at all.

I agree with Merle. I think it's gonna be Ted or Jan. Bryan's got Helen convinced that the final 3 will be Bryan, Clay and Helen, and that Bryan will turn on Clay in the final vote. So, he's got the 3rd vote to get rid of his choice of Jan or Ted. I believe Ted is more of a threat than Jan, so he'll be the first to go, then Jan.

What I'd like to see is Jan, Helen, and Ted wise up and join forces to vote Clay or Bryan off tonight. If they don't, it's pretty much all over for all three of them.

I agree. The others should vote out Brian or it's all over for them. I think that the jury would vote for Brian to win, if he is in F2 because he has played well.

I liked Ted and was really sorry to see him go. Jan doesn't play much, so I wouldn't mind if she went. Mainly she's just acted odd. Clay is obnoxious.

LOL I have another favorite moment. I watched Joe Millionaire and laughed my ass off last night. Sarah (lovingly called Miss Bondage by one viewer interviewed in Las Vegas) thinks that by whispering and hidig her face from the camera man would nt be caught talking to Melissa about the services she gave Evan. Whoops, guess she didn't know about the hidden cameras in the ceiling that cuaght the entire conversation and posted it on the screen for us to watch.

Ya know, Fox relity shows are flat out slimey but they are funny.

Yeah that was weird. I'm glad she didn't get picked, she was frankly in it for the money. She didn't seem broken-hearted. I thought the woods think was just kissing. But from what I see elsewhere it must have been something else. 8-\

Reality shows really do create some unforgettable moments, especially when strategy and unexpected decisions come together. The Survivor examples are a perfect reminder that sometimes the most interesting parts happen outside the official challenges. I also came across tonyspins casino while browsing online, and it was interesting to see. Moments like the one with Silas are exactly why fans keep discussing old seasons years later. It’s always fun to look back and remember the moves that changed the game.
