Say HEY!
The Giants managed to win game five of the first round of playoffs!
And Nen *didn't* blow the save in the ninth, although he did manage to give me and probably most of the managing staff ingestion by putting a runner on first and third on no outs.
On to the next round!

<Font face="georgia">Why is it that they always replace a pitcher who's doing great for two innings just because he's up to bat? I mean really...Nen should have been left in the bullpen warming up for St. Louis, and Morrel (sp?) left in to bat and finish the game he started to save in the 7th. Dusty Baker needs to think outside the box.
Have to admit, though, the end of the game seemed anti-climatic. Funky double-play and it was over. Giant players seemed to take a bit of time before starting to celebrate. The win must've caught them offguard.
-
heh, I'll take anti-climatic if it means they advance!
-
Yippee! Giants win the first game. Now if they can just win the second *without* me watching, holding them (ie Rob Nen) together!
Darn that *have to bring in money thing!* I want to watch the game! Not go to work tonight.
-
I'm on the Giants bandwagon, too. Normally I'd be a Cardinals fan, but I just despise Tony Larusa. Genius my foot. So go Barry! Go Giants!
-
I know a few people who are having a good day today. Congrats guys. Enjoy thw World Series
-
Woo Hoo! Last night totally rocked! Nail biter to the end.
I'm off to Disney World next week and I am planning my trip around watching my team in the World Series!
Can't get much better than that.
-
Woohoo!!!! What a great series it's gonna be. No "rich" teams to worry about, and a franchise that's never been to the World Series. I dunno who to cheer for! I'm happy either way.
AsIs, where ya staying? I've got loads of WDW advice, if you want any!
-
I'm staying at one of the All Star inns at DW. It should be a really fun trip. I might have to get a radio for game listening if we are out having fun.
-
All Stars are nice, and not too hard on the wallet, either, by Disney standards. Hope you have a really great time! Hey, you ought to head to Boardwalk and take in a game at the ESPN sportsbar. That would be so cool!
-
Being a Dodgers fan, I'll throw my support behind the Angels.
My take is: Whoever takes game 1 takes the series.
Peace,
Andrew

Woo Hoo! Nen pitched the ninth and managed to get outs with noone on base!
Seriously good game. Tight, close, well played. Gotta hand it to J.T. Awesome catch after falling down and that homer looked like padding until the bottom half of the inning!
Go Giants!
P.S. Trevor, shame on you! American leauge isn't real baseball!
Just kidding, but I am something of a National Leauge purist. Game 4 of the NLCS would have been very different if the DH was in place. As it was, the Cardinals blew it by not pinch hitting for their starter when he was removed with one out in the ninth. To me that is a big part of strategy in the game.
-
I'm with you on the National League. I'm a purist too, as one from Cincinnati should be. And Larussa sure looked like a genius with that move, didn't he? What a dope! You HAVE to pinch hit in that situation, with all those high paid relievers down in the pen. Whatcha saving 'em for, genius? Send up somebody who can put you ahead with one swing. Letting the pitcher hit was like saying, "We'll try to win it in the Tenth." Duh.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Angels win, just cause they've never been there. But Barry winning the Series would be cool, too. I'm just happy for a Yankeeless and Braveless Series.

Ya know...how appropriate. I just watrched "Angels in the Outfield" yesterday. Always loved those movies. Also watched ":a Kid in King Arthurs court" ... Loved that one too.
-
Sorry.............
Didn't watch any of it and can't stand the NL myself unless they're playing the Yankees, but still sorry.
-
My parents live about 20 minutes from Edison Field so they are very happy. I did love how everyone kept calling them the California Angels. (grins)
-
Ran, I'd usually say the same about the AL. I'm with AsIs on the DH. Not real baseball.
That said, it was fun to see the Angels win it. Overall, I think it one of the best Series ever, with the ebb and flow, and all the come backs. Congrats to both teams for a very entertaining Series!
Sorry for the Giants, too. They had a fine season, and were every bit as deserving as the Angels. I wonder if four games had been played in SF rather than Anaheim if the result would have been different? The teams were very close.
Yeah, that was a great Series. Best since '75.

I think not addressing Dusty's contract and Jeff Kent's status hurt the Giants in the last two games. Particularly in the last game. Something just felt off. While they said it didn't bother them, that they weren't going to think about it, I think it weighed on each of the men in the last game. Game 7 World Series pressure is hard enough. But *is this the last game I will play in this uniform...* pressure on top of that, well, bites.
With the press asking about it, talking about it, etc. The players couldn't avoid it either. So all in all, I would say McGowen blew it. He should of talked to each of them before the series.
Hats off to the Angels, they never gave up, and now they have rings.

Fair enough. I find the idea of not having it strange. Pitchers at bat is absurd to me. We'll agree to disagree.

Hi AsIs,
There were some awesome games played in this series. I wasn't really rooting for either team (I'm an A's fan.), but enjoyed watching the series because I love the sport.
-
Hey Jace! Good to see you.
Yeah, it was a great series. Wish I could have been in the Bay Area to see it.
-
Kinda late, but here goes...
Giants lost the series in game 6, not 7. Yeah, best out of 7 and all, but to be 5 runs ahead, and blow it with a team known for comebacks, I think the wind got yanked out of their sails. And in a small way (sorry for the pun) having Dusty Baker's son nearly get creamed didn't help. Good-luck charm up until that game.
Gene Autrey should be happy.
And, looks like Dusty Baker is heading for the Cubs. Hey, Prof...there's hope in Chi-town yet!
