And I have to admit (may the gods of cinema greatness have mercy on my soul) I really enjoyed it. Maybe its because I saw it on DVD for free - but it was a lot of fun. Yeah, it had a lot of history to live up to and it didn't come close, but if you took it at face value and didn't think about it too much, it was a great popcorn flick. Not a wasted afternoon IMO.
I did not hate it. In fact, I rather liked parts of it, and a handful of bits I truly enjoyed.
That's not to say its a great film, however. I just did not hate it.
I think they deleted the best scene, which was the "Predator Humour" bit. Watch it on the DVD.
The end bugged, and if I think too much about it, it will make me hate it. I mean, they could've just left off with the ship leaving earth, and it would have been kinda classy and left one with a good feeling about the rest of the film, regardless of the several corny bits that went before (looooooooved the "buddy flick running in front of the explosion" bit!)...but...*sigh*. I'll just pretend that last little thing didn't happen.
Oh, and Boner is right on the mark...there is an inherent and unavoidable cheese factor attached to this film that just can't be ignored. There's no way around it. Read the title, for christ's sake. I think they carried the burden reasonably well.

I'll be skipping - but that is mainly due to laziness.
I have only watched the first two Alien movies, none of the Pred movies, and just feel that the Alien Movies I have watched fill in the story line enough for me

My biggest problems with the movie:

1. The Aliens most closely resembled the Resurrection Aliens which were produced from genetically tainted Human/Alien cloning DNA.
2. The pyramid happened to be encapsulated in a very nice ice bubble 2000 feet below the arctic surface... and yet somehow it was conveniently backlit by a nice blue glow.
3. Somebody decided some weapons would dissove in acid blood and others wouldn't... guess Preds aren't smart enough to make all their Alien hunting weapons out of the good stuff.
4. Um... helloooooo... big deal if the Queen falls into the arctic ocean... the vaccum of space is much colder, has no oxygen and yet Aliens can handle it.
5. Last I recall... Aliens didn't kill hosts with embryos inside... (although maybe they read the script and were actually trying to prevent that stupid Pred/Alien hybrid from coming into cinematic fruition).
6. I discovered my McFarlane grid Alien is incorrect since it actually has a tip on it's tail... now I have to go and find a knife, cut it off and do all that work just to make it right...
7. They bastardized the only good scene in Resurrection (the observation chamber escape) by rehashing it in AvP.
8. Obviously parkas aren't needed to keep you warm on the arctic surface as long as you are fighting an Alien Queen or talking to Elder Predators. Oh... and how about offering a ride back to somewhere warm for helping a Pred out instead of a fucking spear? Ungrateful motherfuckers.
I'm going to finally see it today..I guess.
Spore,
I pretty much noticed everything you pointed out - my brother and I were laughing our asses off through a lot of it (we put MST to shame). None of the movie's flaws were lost on us. But for some reason it was just entertaining. Then again, I'm glad I didn't invest in anything more than a lazy Sunday afternoon. If I'd seen it in a theater I probably would have been pissed. On that note, shit, I liked it too! Nothing worthy of "greatness" and shit, but it was good, and fine, I liked it... not really much to say
I'm glad I used my free ticket that came in the Predator SE DVD.
people wanted some great cinematic event from a movie that is on its 3rd sequal and a movie that is on its 6th sequal, combined. how did anyone expect that was going to be earth shattering?
anyhow, i though tit was mindlessly entertaing and didnt hate it at all. the predator suits were bad, and the 'men in alien costume' fight scenes were horribly transparent...none the less, i was entertained.
if i want to be dazzled by something ground breaking, ill go get a lap dance at the gay bar. errr, nevermind.
The movie suffered from the whole "More is less" syndrome... it was filled with the needlessly grandios useage of 2 great creatures in a simplistically mundane story-line.
Still, it was okay... to have on in the background while I was working...
I bought the DVD to finally watch it and saw what I had expected... Hollywood delivering to fans what they had been crying for even though they didn't know any better... and Hollywood will continue to do so as long as crap produces a financial gain.
Oh, and that glimpse of the Pred/Alien hybrid... holy fuck... I thought the Human/Alien hybrid in Resurrection was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen... guess I was wrong.

when i saw it in theatres i found it kind of boring and walked away a little dissapointed. but i decided to buy it on dvd anyways and after i watched it i really like it. so i dont know why i had such a change of heart but i did
I've seen it five times now! Cheese is good!
I know some fanboys that got pissed off about it, and they look to me as some kind of Alien expert (which I'm not), and were dumbfounded when I told them I liked the flick for what it was.
As a pre/sequel crossover, it's what I expected. Consider, you have to ignore everything you think you know about Aliens before you watch this movie. In fictional chronology, this event takes place perhaps hundreds of years before the Nostromo is constructed or Eleanor Ripley is born. However, humans have already killed two Predators in the last few decades, and that's safe to keep in mind when watching this film.
To take apart Spore's points:
1. Already addressed. Resurrection is about a thousand years from now.
2. Predator technology exists here, why not have it backlit? The only movie premise that had me despising lit scenes was Pitch Black. I cannot accept that that much starlight was shining on them all that time, especially when it started to rain...
3. You are correct. Predators aren't that smart. Danny Glover beat one, so did the governor of Cali. As I've had to explain time and time again, Predators are intergalactic hillbillies. They hunt trophies. They wear skullets. Their teeth are funky. They have some advanced hardware, but they're no more sophisticated than your average backwoods West Virginian.
4. Multiple open-ended sequel setups. She's badly wounded and may not survive...or she might march her royal ass all the way to the South African coast line. She'll have seafood on the way, maybe have some dophins with chestbursters open the next film...who cares, right?
5. Most hosts don't continue to be such a threat as a well-armed Pred might be, either. Maybe they did sense the hybrid and wanted it dead as well. Maybe they just wanted the girl, and Scar was in the way. Again, who cares?
6. It should have grid marks on its left shoulder, too.
7. Again, forget Res. How else would they get the queen loose anyway?
8. Well, now you're just nitpicking... Most films that are supposed to take place in the sub-artic have this flaw. But the audience wants to see the drama written on a character's face despite the reality that it would be blistering and falling off in frosty chunks if exposed for that kind of duration. And that's a swell spear. Beats the hell outta the pea-shooter they gave Glover.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Listen folks, this is a factor ALL movies have to get around. If the scene take place where there's no light...we won't see it. Get it? Virtually all movies and TV shows have to deal with it. Either you pretend there's ambient light or you make a light source.Quote:

Someday I'm going to make a light accurate movie that takes place entirely in a deep cave. It shall be the cheapest movie ever made.*

I bought everything else in that scenario up until the storm broke. Ambient light from the waning horizon, fiber-optics, a low orbiting moon, the cave bugs, the occasional lightning flash - maybe... Anyway, what was my point...?

...you saw Van Helsucks. And it is infinitely dumber. It was so dumb that it proved the black hole theory...it sucks even the tiniest sliver of intelligence anywhere near it out of this plane of existence.
Oh, and Blade's mom is pretty dang hot.
maybe people should stop worrying about details of backlines in other movies of the characters, and enjoy it for what it is, AvP, so many wanted it, so many bitched about it when it came out
maybe Im just a dumbass, but it's fucking cool it even came out at all, shit or not
The whole thing about Lex being stranded is completely stupid.
A - Maybe she dies. Who cares.
or
B - In the last shot on Earth, we see a top view of Lex, WITH A TRUCK SITTING RIGHT BESIDE HER. She gets in the vehicle, drives back to ship, gets taken home. You don't think there was a crew for the ship or anything?
