Has anyone else noticed???......

That shortly after Carl posted the "what's gonna happen to glitzine?" post, that all of the sudden there seems to be a glam revival?
Al of the sudden, Andii gets back on, breathes a little new life......a few new people show up, and contribute some good info.....then PBF reunites.....and there are 2 Tigertailz now....Robin Black and the IRS have a new album coming out....Peppermint Creeps are touring the US....everything. I don't know about you guyz, but everything is starting to feel good again. Is it time for glam to make a comeback???

there's only so much of jeans and flanel one can take it gets boring after a while also everything comes back after a while remeber the 70's glam started it

I'm glad some of these new posters really livened the place up.

I was kind of noticing how after that post, this place got a little charge in it again. Obviously it was all coincidence, but it is kind of funny. I know what a big part of it is, but I won't say what I believe it to being. But lets just say that some people are vital to the survival of somethings, even if they never did reach the heights of fame that some do. Even if they aren't famous at all, but they are true enough to the style that they are vital parts of an existence of a style to some degree.

Unfortunately, it seems that the grunge from that era is going to be elevated over everything else. For men at least, flannell and denim are it. Forget The Wildhearts neo-glam look, the media is promoting Nirvana as the thing, and for the same reasons as they did back in the early 1990s, anti-glam. I'm still laughing at how the fashion mags are promoting their women's fashions, which are sort of based on the early 1970s groupie look, as being "grunge".

As for music, I don't think "glam" would "come back" unless it was in a different form. I'd say Thalia Sodi is pretty glam, perhaps some of the glam-oriented bands ought to try and get gigs with her. She has an image and uses props, so why not??

I'm quite sure the media won't allow what we've been thinking of as glam to ever return to mass popularity, after all they did expend so much time promoting Nirvana.

LA is turning into a HUGE glam mecca again. for several years they shunned ANYTHING that even remotely looked like make up. now the mass media is out there trying to cover it again.

how do you think THE PEPPERMINT CREEPS got media coverage from FUSE? VH-1 came looking for them.
MTV2 has had them in rotation recently. People in the media are trying to track em down for interviews. its not just the creeps now though either, they are showing up for the glam nights at the clubs in LA.

New York has a HUGE movement beginning now too (you'd have to be dead NOT to notice it), here in KANSAS CITY, THE BUTTHOLE OF THE MUSIC FRIENDLY WORLD, glam is making an impact.

and I personally have to say, new orleans was made for GLAM. anyone there who said otherwise would'nt know where "they be at".

theres also some Glam resurgence in of all places, MEXICO!!! I guess they are getting tired of listening to that "latino" music that sounds strangely like POLKA IN SPANISH.

And so it continues that Nirvana is the whipping boy for a style of music and it's followers that can't accept the fact that the reason it died was that it's own excess and flooding of the scene made it boring and predictable. The death of Glam had nothing to do with Nirvana, when will people realize this? Nirvana became as big as it did due to everybody being sick of the overkill of "Glam" and the "Hair Band".

Nirvana was no creation or hype of the media. Thier rise to success was brought about by the word of mouth of the fans. I heard Bleach when it was first released due to people in the underground raving about the stuff. I heard about it from Death Metal guys, and at the Death Metal shows. Media? Maybe once Nevermind was getting ready to be release, but that was smart PR and such by Geffen and Nirvana's managment. There is no conspiracy for Nirvana's success. There was also a ton of great word of mouth on the Sliver single, that was a Sub-Pop release. It only stands to reason that the debut major release got it's share of hype, much like a band named Guns N Roses got a few years earlier. Funny how we all forget about the hype and media blitz surrounding the bands that were key to "our" scene. But of course, there never was any, and the "Man" or whoever only existed when it came time to shove Glam back underground. The "Man" never did anything to help Glam, and it is the only honest style of music to ever exist. Right?

What else killed Glam? A refusal to move forward. A refusal to find the faults of itself, and instead choose to wallow in the misery of it no longer being a viable style of music.

Don't forget, every style of music has it's fashion style, and as much as a bunch of people wish to ignore it, "Grunge" started out with the Glam image and had all the same influences. The thing is, Grunge came out of some cold ass states, and nobody can deny that flannel is comfortable, especially in the dead of a Mid-West winter, or anytime of year in Seattle. I know I got REAL sick of silk and Rayon in the middle of January. Yeah, those are REAL warm clothes.

And tell me, you folks who bitch about flannel wearing bands, do any of you like Trixter???

what are we calling glam these days because i, for one, do not see 'glam' in the mainstream. the closest thing i think would be the poison shirt hanging on the wall at the local hot topic. (which last time i checked it was on sale for something like 7 bucks, i'm seriously thinking about it)

glam on fuse? never seen it, unless we are going to start to call velvet revolver or brides of destruction glam. i don't watch mtv2 so i don't know about that but if they are showing it then they just gained a new viewer. what bands out of NYC are we calling glam? i'm there and don't see any but then again, i don't think glam ever really flurished in NYC. Outside the city sure but NYC has always been more hard rock/punk rock/hard core to me. LA, i was there a few months ago and to be honest, the only thing glam there was Metal Shop at the Viper Room and they were a joke. The rest of the clubs had nothing but heavy/hard rock/nu metal/creed type bands. i will be back there soon and i would love some suggestions on where to go. we hit the strip and the strip was dead. there has got to be places off of the strip but i am not familiar with them.

i really have a hard time believing glam will make a comeback. (not that i would complain one bit if it did) it has been the butt of too many jokes to ever be taken seriously again. and two tigertailz does not constitute a glam revival. there has been two ratts for years and look where that got us.

hey there I'm usealy a lurker but couldn't help but post I've read most of the older postings and everyone seems realy nice on this board I moved to new orleans about 5 years ago in october you could wear make up but summer there's almost no way so most of the goth/glam kids leave so the shows are more after sept summer is borring but good side bars never close [img]smile.gif[/img]

First of all...what I was trying to say was that thingz have seemed to be picking up here recently....then thought I'd mention a few other glam thingz that have coincidentally been happening. as far as a full on glam revival. I doubt it would ever happen. Like a few have said...butts of too many jokes. But ya never know.
But I will say that the people that have promoted Nirvana too much were mostly the same people that promoted butt rock too much in the late 80's/early 90's. I have all the old magz. Same magz....all nu metal. If it comes back....the magz will follow. They won't lead. They never do. Either does MTV. They follow what comes out of the underground.
On another note, Carl is right about a lot of Grungers having glam influence. I was here. I saw AIC when they were fairly glam. They wore flannel, but also makeup. I saw Talks Cheap open up for Mother Love Bone. I saw Alice in Chains open up for Pretty Boy Floyd. I think they opened up for Vain too. IMO, there is no clear direction right now out there. It probably won't be fuul on glam, but something like Robin Black, I could see going mainstream. It may not be full on glam, but some kind of hybrid. And it most definately won't be an old glam band that leads the revival if there is one. It'll be someone new that comez out of nowhere....just like GnR, and Nirvana did. I hope there is something though.....

The hype of Nirvana was a symptom, not the cause. I do recall the media insisting they were not going to have a repeat of the early 70s or 80s, and that was why they were promoting grunge.

I do agree that glam will never be anything like it ever was before because too many stupid jokes were made about it. The discourse seems to be in the hands of the likes of Adam Horowitz and crew, and they invented the term "mullet".

Anyone who underestimates the hegemony of the grunge lovers is sorely misinformed.

As I've said, it's got to be hooked up to a different type of music. And yes, whatever happens will be something completely out of left field.

I don't know about any of you, but I am actually fine with Glam staying underground for the most part. It keeps the music honest in that nobody in the scene is playing the music only because it's what is cool this week. I want a scene of kids like many of us were, who found the music, and fell for it no matter what the consequenses could be, and stuck to it and did it. If it becomes big again, then all the Britney/Backstreet/Limp Bizkit/Outkast fans will come running to this style and start doing this stuff, thereby flooding the scene again, and thereby creating the joke again.

All old style become the butts of jokes, BTW. I have heard more than my fair share of Grunge jokes now, and the Nu Metal scene is starting to get them. It is the same as fashion, whatever is out, is a joke. Remember in the 80's how much of a joke the 70's fashions were? Now they are cool again.

I completely agree with you Carl. Rockers are always blaming Nirvana,Grunge for killing the Hard Rock scene. Bands like Trixter, Firehouse and several others maded the scene implode. Every band was coming out with a power ballad as their 1st single?...how rock is that? The only ones to blame are the bad bands and the sheep who listened to their A&R guys to the letter.

I notice the same trend in RAP. Record companies are looking for a quick hit, a tax right off and no artist development for the most part. Some friends of mine were on a big label in the states. They got dropped even though they sold 200K CD's. That would have never happened in the 70's or 80's. The label would invest in you for at least 2-3 albums. Now you have to sell 500K + or you get dropped. The only way you wouldn't is if you're a credibility artist like IGGY or Sonic Youth. Okay off topic I know.

IMO, I'd rather see things come back more of a sleeze thing. That's where I see things heading on the West Coast and East Coast of Canada. Bands like Robin Black, Crystal Pistol, Cheerleader666, Chinatown, Spin Dizzy, NastyOn, The Rumours, All have more of sleazy/trash vibe then an all out glam look.

I know everyone on this board desparately wants the Kiss Animalize tour look to come back...ROFL
