I've lurked on this board for quite awhile, but just now posting.

We have Lindsey. My daughter got her for her 5th birthday. Since day one her legs have been loose. We've got 11 American Girl Dolls in our house, not including BB and HSH, and Lindsey is the only one we've ever had a problem with. She was also the first doll that we ever bought. So, I didn't realize at the time how good the customer service was or how the dolls should be. Besides her legs being loose, her hair is horrible. We've only ever used a wire wig brush, and her hair is very coarse, and it doesn't look cute at all. I think I'm going to try to wash her hair and see how that works.

But, here's what she needs done at the hospital: New head (if washing doesn't work) cleaning of her skin, and tightening of her limbs. The new head is $38, will they automatically tighten her lims and clean her up, or is that additional money?

I just called Customer Service a week or so ago to get a quote on restringing arms and legs for Samtha plus tightening the head. The rep I talked to didn't really know but she asked a supervisor and then told me it would cost $20 to tighten the arms and legs plus another $20 to do the head. Which is silly because the head has to come off to restring the body anyway. Get a quote from Dr. Robin (AsianAG). She does a great job for less and really cares about what she's doing. You can always use the $$ you save to buy your daughter the hospital gown online.

Hi and Welcome!! I think they will clean the limbs.We have only used the hospital once for a new head for our Samantha, and she came back extra clean and looking new. I have heard of others getting new bodies and stuff done for free. I guess you never know???
Our Sam came back cleaned for free,but no tightening was done.

I don't know if they have more Lindsey heads left at the AG Hospital, but you could call Customer Service to find out; they can probably answer most of your other questions, too.

I'm curious what they tell you. Dds Lindsey went to hospital last year for very loose legs, same as yours, her legs were always on the loose side.
She came home tight but without her strings. Her hair is very course also, dd used only a wig brush but I assumed just too often.
Kit has to go in for loose legs now and a good cleaning, I'm sure we got her about the same time as Lindsey. CS told me to send her in as a wellness visit which covers the tightening.

Please let us know how your visit comes out.

Hello and welcome to the board! I just wanted to testify about Dr. Robin's work. I can personally vouch for her services. Dr. Robin did a fantastic job on my AGT#3 ("Kristen"). She posted a journal of poor Kristen and her broken leg not too long ago. Anyway, feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

The CS reps don't realize that the head HAS to come off to do the arms and will be tightened by default if you get arms/legs. So if you only pay for limbs, you get both, but not vice versa.

What are they going to do, leave the head off in the box? I don't think so. $20 would do both, just fill it out for limb tightening and forget what that person told you, supervisor or not.

Hold Elizabeth only by the body and ankles, so she's paralell to the floor (her eyes will shut). Now drop the ankles. If the legs stay in place or only droop a tiny bit, you're fine, but if they droop a lot, your doll needs restringing.

But didn't you just buy Elizabeth? She should be fine ... that's really bad if your new dolly needs new strings ... [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

Each time that I have sent a dolly in for a new head she has came back with her limbs tightened with no extra charge. But if limb tightening is all you need, I recommend Dr. Robin, AKA AsianAG. You'll save money and she won't do anything unneccessary to your doll, like replace the neck strings with a plastic zip tie.

Welcome to the board!

I know Lindsey is obviously not old, but older dolls will eventually need to be restrung, especially if they're played with. The elastic deteriorates over age. So don't panic that she's loose; it's unfortunate, but not shocking.

It's not too terribly difficult to restring a doll, from what I've heard (although the price of materials to do one could really add up). I plan to do it myself someday!
