PAtiots lost their 4th in a row. Nuff said! :
How about Emmitt Smith breaking the Sweetness's record. Emmitt has always seemed a class guy to me. If anyone was going to break Payton's record, I am glad it was him.
And the Niners won, so the day wasn't a total SF loss yesterday. *sigh*
Well, the Patriots are playing Buffalo on Sunday. They are playing the "Bledsoe Bowl I" as it is being called up here in Boston.
It's not only a crucial game in the division, but a local hype game. Ought to be intersting!
I have to say that Sunday was a sad day for me. I was raised a Bears fan, I can sing the Super Bowl Shuffle from memory, I saw Walter Paytons last football game (it was against the Los Angeles Raiders in the Collesium). Emmitt Smith is a classy guy but I wish the record had not been broken.
Nommy, the Patriots were idiots for trading Bledso. Brady had a great season last year. I said it last year and I am saying it now, it was because no one knew who he was and preparing for the unknown is hard. Now that there is film on Brady, he is a marked man.
Bledson was a proven entity who was an excellent quarterback. To replace him with a relativly unknown was flat out stupid. To trade him to a team in the same conference was the epitimy of stupid.
Now he is pissed that he was benched after an injury. Pissed he does not really get to enjoy his Super Bowl ring. Pissed that he was treated like crap by a team he helped. That gives him a reason to play even better then before.
Hey Crash... I was gonna wait to agree with you until after the game with Buffalo. Woo Hooooo... I am glad I wated. I don't know what happened to either the PATS or Buffalo, but DamN! What a game! Did you watch?
I can see that Bellincik (sp?) may have had a bead on how Drew plays as wella s the team knowing him so well, but they seemed to take that buffalo team apart. Any comments on this? Was it a fluke? I guess we wont know if the Patriots RWEALLY have their groove back until the next few games. Lets see if they can play like the champs they looked like yesterday.
I didn't see the game. I was ensconsed in a local coffee shop drinking coffee and trying to figure out how people can flunk an exam when you gave them the exam a week in advance to study off of.
Crash, you'll just make your head hurt doing things like that. LOL!
I didn't see the game here, Nommy. They actually show Bengals games on our affiliate when they are on the road. No, really! I'm not kidding! Anyway, I saw what the Pats did to the Bills, and while one game doesn't prove anything, it had to be satisfying to the Pats' management to clobber Bledsoe. It justifies their actions. That said, I do agree with Crash that it was the epitome of stupid to trade him within the division. I think management really wanted the Bungals to come through with an offer, but since Bungals' management rates somewhere 20 points below the epitome of stupid, they didn't make an offer after Drew (wisely) said he wouldn't accept a trade to Cincy.
Bungals actually won a game, and did so impressively. Hopefully, they can regain their momentum and pull out a defeat Sunday at Baltimore.
OK, Ill admit to the stupidity of trading within the division. Especially with Bledsoe. But also gotta admit...it makes for some fine half time talk and soap opera chat within the division also. No more Tuna Bowl! Its the Bledoe Bowl!
As for the now rainy west coast, the Raiders managed to lose to the SF 49ers. Actually, they lost to Jeff Garcia (quarterback), who played a game few players ever get to enjoy. Having grown up in the SF Bay Area, tried out for the Raiders, but didn't make it, it was a sweet victory.
Raiders, on the other hand, were once thought to be a Super Bowl-bound team, have lost 4 straight. Next is in Denver, where they've not won in the last 9 meetings there. Following that, it's the "get-even" game with the Patriots, but I have a funny feeling that unless they come up with some magic, the Raiders are going to force me to purchase a case of Sammy's finest.
And, Hey! Bengals won one! Will wonders never cease?

Yes, the Raiders have looked like crap for the last month. I'm a fan and all, but if you want people to take you seriously you have to play like you want it.
I could whine about the shitty call during the playoffs last season, but what's the point? They need to beat Denver tomorrow night to get back on track.
<font face="georgia">Certainly would appear that the Raiders team showed up. Denver appeared to have won the game before it started, and never recovered. 15 interceptions returned for a TD in Ron Woodson's career. Couldn't tell if he ever got off of oxygen after that score. Talk about a turning point...
So, next week. Raiders showed they can play, and will want to win one at home. New England showed they can come from behind. Gonna be a good game if both teams show up for this one.
I'm ready for some football!
Yeah, their next game's a little personal. ;)
Come back from behind? Yikes...I was ready to shut the game off at halftime. Kept switching channels...THEN...man..what a nail biter of a 4th quarter. Gott admit, they should not have gotten themselves in that position to begin with... Sammies are looking pretty good right about now....
OK....Bring on the Raiders!
<font face="georgia">Half-time...17 - 6 Raiders. Brady isn't helping his cause too much this game. Patriots are good for comebacks, but today? <font color="green">Sierra Nevada</font> is looking pretty good...</font>
Grumble Grumble Grumble.... 2 lost touchdowns with open men downfield. Sheesh...
So, Wizz.... Got any Stores in your area that delivers and takes Matsercard over the phone or web?
Grumble Grumble Grumble
Nommy...ya know? Howzit gonna be? I don't think anyone will deliver/ship beer (any alcohol). I used <font color="purple">Fed</font><font color="orange">Ex</font> to get margaritas to Chicago, but these days? Can't figure a way...how 'bout one of these instead?
Brady seemed to do much better once he got some gloves on his hands. Then the kickoff return kind of got things going again. Bad idea on that on-side kick, though. Kick it to the other side of the field and then not have anyone chase it? I thinks the Patriots beat themselves as much as anything...
However, it must be said:
<center><font size="+2">It was a FUMBLE!</font></center>
I thought it was kind of classy that Charles Woodson was joking around with Brady before the game started. Like he said, "They got their rings, now it's time for us to get ours."
GO RAIDERS!!
OK Wizz... Looks good to me. (You actual sent Margaritas to Crash???)
<font face="georgia">Actually, yes I did. <font color="purple">Fed</font><font color="orange">Ex</font>'ed two gallons. (Learned that 4 gallons was more likely to last with this group). From the same place as the ones I brough for the gathering in Boston, except we didn't have a blender until the last day, when most of the elixir was gone. Sent to Days Inn, for Prof and about 28 others that showed up. Some even got into real trouble...others saw trouble first hand. But, that's a campfire story for another day.
Showdown in the wild, wild, west this Sunday. Raiders at Chargers. Should be a good one.
Very important game this weekend, that's for sure. If the Raiders play the Chargers like they played the Jets...well, it won't be pretty. They need to win by 7 or more to get #1 position for their division
Although I will say they did get a better win than the 49er's. More like Seattle lost the game than anyone won.
And yet, the 49er's are in first place in their division. Probably make the playoffs and last for one game. Heck, the Giants and Angles (baseball) were both wild-card teams. Who's to say it won't happen again?
Hey Wizz! Except for that poor display of football and that (Yes, I'll admit it was a ) FUMBLE. We are currrently in a shaky first place.
We are playing another Bledsoe Bowl on Sunday and we need to win to keep our first place status. Jets need to lose or at the most, win with low points. Should be an interesting game against the Bills here in the Northeast.
K Wizz...Please send me your mailing address to so I can send you your glasses directly. I don't want it to be said I reneged on a bet.... er, I mean ....challenge.
Will do, Nommy...
Hope the Pats watched the Raider game Monday, and have an idea of how to handle the Jets. 'Specially with the new wonderful weather that just blew into the area. Keep warm...
Hey Wizz! I just noticed that your avatar looks like tthe icon from SPFPC.
Jaguars stink!
Jaguars STINK!
JAGUARS STINK!
This messeage brought to you by a very disgruntled resident of northeast Florida.
We will now return you your regular programming, The Coach Tom Coughlin Show, or "Why I Left Boston College and Ruined the Careers of Pro-Football Players." This program will air as audio only, as Coach Coughlin had to fire all the cameramen to stay under the salary cap.
It does? I just went through the available avitars, and this one "appears" to be the Golden Gate Bridge. Since I live near by, and am too lazy to design a good-looking wizard, I opted for that one.
BTW, what is SPFPC?
Heh. I recognized the bridge in your avatar. I just wonder if the angle's from Chrissy Field or from the Marin side of the bridge. I don't think there's a beach that would have that angle on the Marin side.
There is a wonderful viewpoint from a ruined fort on the Marin side though. I forget the name of the fort but it looks down on the bridge and across the Bay at SF. One of the most romantic evenings I ever had involved a special friend and I watching the fog roll in across SF from a spot below the ruined fort. The climb back up to the fort was a little treacherous. I'm just glad I realized the implications a fog bank might've had on our climb. You have to manuever around a chainlink fence with about a foot and a half clearance to the edge of a cliff that would drop you thousands of feet into the bay. We made it just past the fence when the fog rolled in across us. Gave me a great excuse to hold her hand. ;)
I believe the avatar picture is taken from the vista point on the south side of the bridge, just above Ft. Point. It's also right at the toll plaza.
I know of the abandoned fort in the Marin headlands, but I can't remember it's name, either. That area is also tunnelled and once housed a number of 16" guns as a coastal defense against the Japanese in WW II. The tunnels were basically a maze of transport aisles so the guns could be serviced even under bombardment. Very accurate up to 25 miles, which just happened to be the distance to the horizon.
Firt things first...GO PATRIOTS...WOOO HOOOOO!! That game should have been 48 to 10. Un believable....3 touchdowns called back. One made by a cool play with Brady receiving. I almost pissed myself when I watched that one. LoL
SPF/PC is the pc version if the ISPF mainframe developement environment that we use. Damned if I can find what the letteres stand for. System Product Facility? Now its going to bug me.
ISPF? You don't mean OSPF by any chance, do you?
San Francisco got away with another one in Dallas, but hey, I really like it when the 49ers can take it to Dallas and beat them there. So long as Terrel Owens can keep the show-boating antics to a null level, it's nice to see. However, 49ers are having fun with weak teams. Next is Green Bay, and that won't be an easy game, predictably the only expected loss the 49ers will have this season (until the playoffs...)
Raiders spanked the Chargers. More than made up for the loss earlier. Running game? What Charger running game? Rich Gannon throws another 300 yard game, setting an NFL record. For a guy who was a second string QB for so many years, he's got to be loving this. Next week, the Dolphins. That'll be one to watch!
Damn! I knew Miami'd play them tough, but the Dolphins were definitely up for yesterday's game. I'm glad we're wrapping up things here at home. I might try and make it to one of those games.
Oh yeah, go Titans. ;)
<mumble mode ="on">Oy! Bad enough to watch the Raiders get their act together only to realize they took too long in doing so. Good Miami defense, though. BUT...to watch the 49er's do the same thing, to come this close to pulling it out of Green Bay's hands...<mumble mode="off">
I hate Monday mornings like this. The cheerful news person announcing that BOTH teams lost...no backup today.
Hope the Pats win this one. I want Miami to suffer...
this is not football, in england we play FOOTBALL u loosers
He The_Herbert...Kindly refrain from calling us loosers. You wouldn't like what the rest of this board can come up with. We are a pretty close nit community here and your ...um..passion...is not wanted.
I would pit out American Football players against your Soccer players anytime. How come nobosy has ever thought of that befoer? Hmmmm
Hard to be offended by someone that couldn't spell losers. :D
LoL Jace!
Nomad bows his head in disgust at the Patriots/tennesee game. Sheesh. Bring on the Jets!
Their end of the season finale against Miami should be a good one.
