They said it couldnt be done.
They said that no one would ever score over 300 points in a game of Literati.
They said no one could have that much talent, intelligence, patience and luck all at once.
They said that the day would never come....
But friends, Tonight your very own Shatzy has done it.
She has managed to score 340 points in a regulation game of Literati.
Behold...a marvelous screenshot:

its such a shame that one of my three bingo bonuses
is covered up by the little sign....
i've been tryin and tryin to break 300, as you know TG.
i'm officially a yahoo literati badass.
i'm still waiting on that rematch from KB.
-
But also, let me state this... for those of you who think she must be a genius...
Shatzy plays with a dictionary. Actually, I believe with the help of dictionary.com.
In the rules of Scrabble *or any game like it* it specifically states *if you wish to play by the rules, like you should* that you cannot at any time use a dictionary except to challenge words that you believe either 1.May not be a word or 2.to be mispelled.
But she constantly uses a dictionary, so the fact that she "broke the barrier" really is nothing more than the fact that she knows how to quickly utilize a dictionary to get the most of out of what would probably be a "bad hand" otherwise.
Yea, you broke the barrier... cheater.
That's gotta be tough. *rolleyes*
-
I agree with the little cheerleader dog. Although scoring that high on the game is very impressive, it does take away some of the significance if the scoring individual uses an outside source to compete. Even still, if that is the goal that you set forth to complete Shatzy, congratulations. I don't think I could do the same even with outside help (unless it was my dad helping, the man is a genius).
-
I bet shatzy could beat your dad.
A say way have a competition.
-
Also, I dont think it is cheating to use a dictionary.
Its not like she is coming up with words no one has ever heard of before. She still has to know what to look up in order to even use the dictionary.
-
First of all, my father is far beyond simple competition with peons. He is challenged by only the grandmasters of literati (even though Shatzy may be <BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#25004f"><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">officially a yahoo literati badass. </font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE> she has not claimed to be a grandmaster.
Also, did you not read the cheerleader dog's post? <BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#25004f"><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">In the rules of Scrabble *or any game like it* it specifically states *if you wish to play by the rules, like you should* that you cannot at any time use a dictionary except to challenge words that you believe either 1.May not be a word or 2.to be mispelled. </font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
I agree that she is not using words no one has heard of before, but still, she is receiving outside help that is not allowed by scrabble rules (or any game like it). I said that I was still proud of her, but one person's achievement is another's piece of shit (no offense shatzy)
-
Your dad would get his ass kicked!
Dictionary or no dictionary.
-
Let's go one step further, I would kick her ass.
-
I betcha a meal at Wendy's that Shatzy will win.
-
WOW!
while i will concede with hanny and say that
scrabble IS based upon ATTAINED knowledge of
the english language, in real game play, dictionarys
should be used for challenges.
however, when playing literati... the rules are
a tad bit different.
in a regular game of scrabble, you place the
tiles and THEN check to see if the word is legit
IF a challenge has been set. if your word is
wrong, you lose the turn.
in literati, the word is checked (via dictionary.com)
after you click SUBMIT. and you do not lose
your turn. which isn't comparable to scrabble
at all.
since you do not forfeit your turn when placing
an incorrect sequence of tiles on literati,
i find it completely agreeable that checking
the word PRIOR to placement is ok.
regardless, there have been many times that
i have not been allowed a word. there have also
been times that i have just placed tiles and
hoped that it would submit (TG's famous trick).
in the recent game with TG and hanny, this
occured with the word TOR...
it was pure chance that it would have been
accepted.
while i have made (seemingly) impressive maneuvers
in literati, i have been beaten many times.
TG has beaten me three or four times. and there
have been cases that TG has randomly placed
tiles and actually gotten a word...
such is the case with WOAD (in the pic).
you cannot tell me that TG knew of that word
before he placed the tiles. he guessed and
got it accepted.
so what?
anyways... i'd love to play against anyone willing.
and as far as the TG bet offered to gravy,
i'd be willing to play against gravy if the
bet were made... or if the bet were not made.
i just like the damn game. =)
-
so....anyone ever got 107 pts with just 1 word?
TG Reigns!
-
I know.
It just leaves ya speechless, dont it?
-
your lack of the ability to remain humble
supercedes the fact that i am too coward
to post what i really wanted to say

SWARMINGS -- 3w + 2L + 2W.....
-
Yeppers, I shor nuff kin c y Shatzy needs a dikshunary.
Them there are big words.... beer, inhale, bloom, line, ton, (now thar's a heavy werd).
-
from what i can remember, my words from the
screen shot are as follows:
DARK
ANTENNA
BEER
BOOS
SIENNA
SENTIENT
FAINTERS
HUE
YUM
DINS
COY
LIMES
give or take an S or so....
i don't see you doing any better.
wanna try me, alex?!?!?
-
I too shall concede something.
My original rant about dictionaries and the like, comes from an actual jelousy at Shatzy's meticulous form of play.
Be it with dictionary or not.
She plays quite well, instinctively enough to kill at times, yet smart enough to win.
I simply find loopholes when I realize that I myself cannot rise to such levels of play. (not to say that I have ultimately tried to do so, as that would require actually playing more than once a month)
But, since she was modest enough to concede her point, then I shall be honest enough to admit my jelousy.
-
no reason to be jealous, ass munch....
in one game, you single-handedly defeated 3
other players (myself included) at monopoly...
walked away with over $10,000 with nothing more
than the orange props...
also... from what i remember, you have never
lost a game of monops yet...
you may not play often, but when you do...
you are a MACHINE!

fainter is a word. but fainters?

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">quote:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#25004f"><font size=2 face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">Originally posted by Alex:

ask yourself this:
what is a 'fainter'? could that be plural?
-
Literati is not scrabble.
Literati is gay.
-
Yep.

-
Fainter may be a word, but what of it?
use it in a sentence.
Then use fainters in a sentence.
-
Just think of it like a baseball team, Alex.
"The Cleveland Fainters".
See?
A perfectly legitimate word.
-
my sister wants to go to the haunted house,
yet, she's a fainter.
what? your girlfriend is a fainter, too?
great. we'll be going with a couple of fainters.
*extends middle finger to alex*
-
What, Alex is a fainter? Great, just what we need.
-
Sorry, but I'm not convinced.
Any sentence you come up with has to use the word "group" to predefine fainters.
The man noted that the farther he moved from the window, the fainter (notice no "s") Shatzy's glare was. Now, pluralize that sentence. YOU CAN'T.
Bring it on, before I faint from bordom.

the word you used is called an 'adjective'....
the word i used is called a 'noun'...
nouns can be made plural by adding an S.
if you can discrepancies with the noun 'fainter(s)'
i suggest you consult www.dictionary.com and
any other various authorities on linguistics.
this is shatzy, signing out

fainter's ain't a word. but congrats anyway.
-
-
all that proves is that the internet has an ass for every saddle.
-
you sure are stubborn, alex....
-
Alex, you are pretty stupid. your argument is like saying baseballs isn't a word or questions isn't a word. The singular words (notice another word that apparently isn't correct according to Alex) baseball and question are grammatically correct singular nouns. Also, the words baseballs and questions are grammatically correct plural nouns.
As ek3 would say, check and mate.
-
has ek3 said that on here?
-
no, during personal conversations, that is what he has said. I guess I should have used his real name, but i didnt' feel comfortable giving out person information like that.
-
its ok, gravy...
everyone already knows that ek3 = wes
just like very soon, everyone will know
that gravy = DJ
its just a matter of time
