Here is a copy of my dyno run I did today. Finally I hit above 200whp. (Well barily) Anyway, as you can see my car was way outta wack when I cam in. After tuning the fuel with the SAFC, and adjusting the timing to around 14, I hit that. Anyway, anyone have any ideas of my staus? I just odered the Kamakaze header with the sphere, and 2.5" collector. Its on a three week backorder, but once its here it will help. Next week I am going to try the pulley/boost idea I got. Once I get the exhaust going good with the header I hope to hit around 210whp.

Mike,
By the time you pass the 200 whp mark and the money you will spend to get there, you could have gotten a much better platform that comes with more power right out of the box.

We can get into the pissing contest again about F bodies and our cars. I much prefer my car to those cars. Our cars are light and handle much better. And when I am done I will have spent much less to go faster than a camaro and I could outrun it in the corners. And the best part it will be reliable.
I must say it is surprising how much lower the output of the blower is on the R's. Their cams must really work against boost. I know that a GSR with 6psi is faster than my budies R with 8psi and water injection. I almost think swapping some parts out might help, or cam gears at the least.

"By the time you pass the 200 whp"-actually I did pass the 200whp mark. Hence the dyno plot I posted.
"the money you will spend to get there, you could have gotten a much better platform that comes with more power right out of the box."-such as? Actually I could have gotten a turbo, but I'd rather work with what I got. See I'm not like most people, I will NOT give up once it gets expensive, I will NOT blow up my car due to stupidity, and cheapness (Unlike some I'd rather not mention). See I enjoy working with my car. I think you mistaken this board with the cheep, stupid, and I don?t give a F*ck board.
Sorry to be so harsh, but I just hate it when people post such stupid meaningless comments. See I want to make sure I stay safe and will NOT blow up my car. Yes I could just turn the timing, cut the belts, and max the gears and hit 215+whp, but I will probably hurt the R motor, and kill the life of it in around say 1.5yrs. I plan on keeping this car for as long as possible and I plan on staying safe as possible. Thanks for you?re input it?s been more then helpful. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

lol, yeah actually after looking at my friends dyno plot for his 8psi type R, I'm not too far away. He last hit around 215whp, and 145trq (BTW he has 8psi with a lower compression head gasket). I hit 201whp, and 140trq. He's only 14whp higher, and 5trq higher. His line of course is above me, but around 7000-8400rpms I'm right next to him. He also BTW revs to 9000+rpms, because he has "The Program" inside. If I install the Kamakaze headers, and make the catback alittle bit more freeflowing, I think I will be able to hit around 210+whp. And thats with just 5.5psi of boost.
BTW thats for the support guys!

It's the stock compression of the ITR that's working against the JR unit. Anything above static CR of 11 is counter productive to the SC.
-
SSBP is just mad because he is driving a grocery getter! Just kidding SSBP http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Keep on working on that ITR, 210whp is not that far away!
-
14 degrees! That's too much.
Unless you have enough money to buy a new car every year, or waste your money on a GM or Ford product, be happy with the car you have, and have fun with it. But realize it can be a money pit, and if all you want is power, you might find it outside of the Honda lineup, including the TL.
-
-
Why do you say 14 degrees is too much? My car runs fine with it. In fact we had it at 16 degrees, but it started to ping some. I think he set it to 14. I am probally going back their to have him drop it to 10-12 degrees. I will probally loose around 2-4whp, but its worth it to stay on the safe side. We just wanted to see how my car ran with the timmming that high. In fact I have heard no pinging yet.

RE SSBP:
He has a valid opinion although he brings it across very abrassive. He's always been that way so why is anyone surprised now? ;o)
RE SteveW:
You are so absolutely wrong. This was a HUGE reason I didn't get my Camaro SS for so long, listening to peolpe like you without driving the car for a while and thinking about everything as a whole. Let me address the points one by one.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Our cars are light and handle much better.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Fbody is heavier, true. Handle much better on a track or high speed driving, wrong. Stock it's very close. Aftermarket handling mods, not even close anymore. The FBody can whip even a TypeR's ass when it comes to handling so don't be fooled. Granted the car does FEEL different but once you're used to it, it will go as far as you're willing to take it. The only BAD feel to the car is when you go around a corner with a bumpy surface, fast. That's when things feel odd but when do you romp around a place with tons of bumps? Rarely to never.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>And when I am done I will have spent much less to go faster than a camaro and I could outrun it in the corners.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
We can do a used or new comparison but I'll give the Integra an advatage of 'new' as the Camaro costs a bit more here. You can get a GSR (20k) and a Z28 (23-25k) to do this comparison. Stock, with free mods you're looking at what, 15's for the integra at best case? With the camaro you're looking at mid to low 13's. Now add a Turbo and the best intercooler and what not to the Integra (add 3-5k for primo stuff) and NOS to the Z28 (1k for the primo NOS setup). The integra MIGHT do high 12's on Street tires but I doubt it. The Camaro will do a high 11 on street tires and low 11's with DR's. On the street the Turbo GSR will have to be kept on high rpm levels to not deal with as much boost lag when racing. The Camaro can accelerate in any gear very well. Obviously the NOS isn't all the time so you could argue that BUT for another 1k you can install a head/cam setup from Endyn and you'd be making the NOS power+ so once again, the Integra does well but doesn't top the FBody. This is reality.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>And the best part it will be reliable.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Uhh, once you start getting into 8 PSI with all the goodies that come with it or Turbo, you've pretty much changed reliable to what you've done. Everyone who's stepped into what we can "the bigger boys" on this board has had some type of problem or another. You start giving up the refined car for the "race car". Your car becomes loud as hell (exhaust), shakier(motormounts, rims, stiff suspension), and things in general around as sturdy because you've fucked with so many things in your car by removing them and putting them back. The FBody DOES indeed start with a much crappier quality interior, period. The design has some pluses and some negatives but the Integra is no Lexus either. After modding I couldn't see putting the integra ahead of the Body in this catagory either. Stock vs. stock I can agree wholeheartedly but not after being modded.
I'm not trying to piss on you but rather make sure no one is fooled. I wish someone would have stepped up and expalained this earlier to me when these debates went on way back when I was deep into the mods. I enjoy SPEED period. I don't mind if it's in an Integra or an FBody. The important thing for most here is that they ENJOY their platform for it's style, technology and whatever else. If you try to start this 'best' all around car in general, you're probably driving the wrong car. Now if you were arguing about a Supra, well then that'd be different. ;o)

MIke,
I didn't see your last post about timing, doh. You can't always 'hear' minor detonation. If you keep on the throttle during detonation or the temp outside gets hot, you're going to hurt your shit. Even a bad tank of gas is goign to hammer you. Also, more timing doesn't mean more power at every RPM. It's been shown that lower timing at certain RPM ranges up top actually gives more power. That's why some of us jumped on using the 6BTM! As Jim. ;o) I highly reccomend you take a safer setting unless you're willing to give up your engine safety for 2 WHP.

No replacement for displacement -- even the endyn guys agree with that.
However, if the idea is to sell a car you've already invested money in and start making a payments on a new one, -- that never comes out cheaper. (unless it was a lemon).
I don't know about Gsr and Type R's but Progress Springs has had an article on its site about lateral 1 g del sol.

Also, I can't imagine a Type R needing much more work to be a match for most any car in cornering, but I'm just guessing from most favorable reviews I've read about it.

More power does not mean faster if the car that is being powered by it is also heavier. Power to weight ratio, in the end, determines either quickness or top speed (depending on gearing, etc.)

Interesting, my 6psi GSR is producing 199.4whp. My timing is still set at 8degrees. Now that the J&S is installed I'm looking forward to readjusting the timing a bit. Then it's time for a S-AFC. I guess it's the higher CR of the typeR working against the blower. What is the average output from a typeR-jrsc?

Oh yeah, whoever mentioned power to weight ratios:
The Integra won't win there either. I don't wanna drag this on and on. I'm not saying the Camaro is perfect either. A motorcycle is probably the best bang for the buck but I'm not interested in the damage done to me when some idiot doesn't check his mirrors or I hit a hidden bump on the road at high speeds. I'd rather take my changes in a high horsepower car with a super duper roll cage http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/redface.gif).

Actually I thought it was the overlap that the ITR has that works against it with boost, NOT the compression. High compression would help, unless you were getting pre-ignition and detonation.
And while I respect the F-bodies, hell I have a 95 Vette, I really dont think the vette could outhandle me or outrun me anymore.

Makes an FI 00 Naples Gold 3.2TL sound like an interesting project. I wonder just how far you could go with that before it gets real expensive or has to give up enough luxury features to change it's character objectionably?

I saw an F-body today that I would be tempted by if my current ride didn't have much life left.
87 IROC, 383ci motor (is that correct?), Paxton supercharger @5psi. 150shot NOS through plate. 3000 miles on engine. Looked very clean. Carbon fiber dash, 6 speed tranny out of something else (?), gauges and shift lights up the wazoo, MSD BTM, killer stereo, racing steering wheel, leather racing seats. I don't know about the suspension, but he had a hard time putting down any power at the auto-x.
Also included, spare injection system and manifolds (it was carbeurated today). He said the SC worked much better with fuel injection. I don't know why at was carb'ed today.
Ran 11.8 with slipping clutch and NOS only partway.
$11,0000!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a bargain in my book.

I am going to hop in here on the whole "Muscle car" vs. Import. As I considered a Z28 before I bought my Integra. First as everyone says on a muscle car you start off with more power, and better accleration. A huge plus is you get rid of crappy front wheel drive, for something much more controllable, rear-wheel drive. But on the other hand you have to deal with GM dealerships, I have been to 12 of them in 3 states with my wifes cars, and they all suck. 2 your car was made by the morons who are member of the UAW, these guys can't even spell UAW. On the other hand I wish I had realized how cheap you can get both new and used Cobra's.
In most cases it is going to come down to the driver, regardless of power.

The average stock output of a JRSC type R is in the 190's. Dynospot was able to get a stock type R to hit 191whp with just the JRSC, and stock pump, etc... If I would have known the type R really puts out around 180whp stock, I would have not of gotten it, or I would have done less worthless mods. See JR claims a stock type R will do around 209+whp stock!!! Yeah right!! All of the type R's Ive seen that are JRSC'd all have had some type of problems, along with low whp numbers. If I can get my car to stay at 200whp with the timing lowered, I will continue. My next goal is to try this pulley/belt idea. If that works well, then I will stop or plan on going to 8psi or to wait for Endyn.
Here is a list of my mods, and next to it is a status of its performance.
-JRSC (some problems, avg. power)
-Top Fuel exhaust (little if any)
-Comptech Hi-flow cat (nothing)
-Comptech Intake (helped throttle response)
-TODA Cam gears (helped get rid of over lap)
-Bosche/Endyn fuel pump (helped alot with fuel flow)
-Cartech FPR (helped ALOT with tuning)
-APEXi SAFC (help with tuning ALOT)
-MSD 6BTM (little if any performance gain)
-J&S (helps ALOT with protecting the car)
-ACT clutch (can't tell yet, breaking in)
And thats about it for performance.

-
yeah those are the rims. they are 215x40ZR 17's on Bridestone Pole Position SO2's. They actually dont weight too much more then the stock type R rims. When I hold each rims in each hand, they feel about equal to the TC slightly heavier. I would put my stock R rimsd on, however its almost impossable to hook up when I punch it. (They also make horrable rain tires!)

Nice! I've seen 17" volk te37s on an R and your Advans look bigger (maybe just an illusion from the spoke pattern/design) You should just plop the wheels w/ tire on a bathroom scale and weigh em. I bet your stock combo is >5lbs lighter! but yeah traction would be an issue.

But yeah the TC seem to look huge. Its probally cause the tires are so thin, and of course the spoke design.

rboosted,, when i was at nopi Nats i was talking to a guy with a type R SC, and he's hitting 235hp, and 157lbs of torque,, here's a list of mods he told me about...
JRSC 4.0Pulley, i think a different crank pulley,, anyways whatever he has he's hitting 7-7.5psi, water injection, timing at 10degrees,stack intake, 4-1header, 3" cat back THERMAL, test pipe, 95GSR ECU OBD1, with modified wiring harness, ohh and cam gears.... Thats it, no ignition, not MSD BTM, NO J&S,, I seen the dyno, its unreal.................anyways, he said Water injection Makes a huge difference, every supercharged R that was there, hitting high numbers, had water injection, even a yellow one, hitting 240hp..at 9psi

Yeah, thanks for the info. I know both of them! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif The guy that showed you his plot, is Scott. He's the one who told me to try this pulley/belt trick! LoL. (Small World. Intresting mods huh! The water injection is ok. Actually my dyno place has tried it on a JRSC type R. With 5.5psi, and 8psi. For some reason it gave no power gain. When they pulled the kit apart, they showed me the damage the H2O kit can do after some years.
I will be trying all those mods. Hopefully I will be able to hit 250 without going 8psi. If I do go 8psi, I want to hit 280! (Yes, I know those numbers are crazy! But hell, its worth a shot! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

what exactly does the water injection destroy after time?, I think everyone is using it, for detonation control, because of the slight cooling it does to the intake charge, and to run higher boost pressure, I wouldn't think it would do too much damage, unless you were always were on boost, and you had it set to come on at 1psi,,, Scott said he had his set to spray at 4psi... I'm definetly going to take some of his thoughts, especially the OBD 1 conversion, and 3" exhaust, thinking about a Magnaflow 3", but I want to research that company more before i decide to get it.........
