Why a risky move? It's just a televised version of what most straight edge bands try to preach in thier songs. Plus it's for the drug free america thingy, so they're not really "cashing in".

The funny thing I find is that straight edgers get all wound up if you mention the fact that it IS led by their music scene....the question which came first straight edge or hardcore?:That speaks volumes...
The reason people argue about it is because of the succinct preachiness of it all,someone says I dont drink or do drugs etc...it gets brushed off...saying I AM STRAIGHT EDGE makes anyone a target....lets say someone stops drinking for a few months and then starts again...no-one bats an eyelid...someone who says they are straight edge loses that choice,because if they do go back on it,then they lose face...I suppose that is an argument for it in a way,because then in their eyes it becomes more of a commitment..look at Spen though...he got loads of shit when he went back on it all,and that is invariably how most straight edgers end up...
Its a well known fact that a lot of the originators of the straight edge movement are now drinking themselves into oblivion/owning titty bars etc..not all but a lot of them.
Ive said before that it impedes social developement...and I will be proved right..with time..
