Well, i haven't started a thread here in a while. but i thought this was fun. last night i got a call about midnight from my brother who said he was stuck. turns out, he decided to go mudding in a baseball field and got stuck. he drives a pathfinder with no mud tires, not real smart, especially since it had been raining alot. he was up to his axles in mud. so i came in there and went to pull him out. i have a fairly new tahoe with mudtires and a winch. my winch was not hooked up though b/c of battery prolbems. so i backed in there and was goign to pull him out with some chain, but i got stuck. so then another friend of his had to come pull him out and then i got out and turned around and pulled him out. we had a great time.

Imagine riding with Dale Earnhardy Jr. down the interstate, he is going to SEEM like a crazy driver when in reality his skills are so great that he is in PERFECT control at all times.
It is very similar to me. It may seem like I dont know wtf I'm doing or that I am driving badly but I am in total control.
Now, the fact that I had a minor accident last friday (Saturday morning) has no bearing on how good of a driver I am since I was technically driving in an unconscious state.
I know this post will be scoffed at because EVERYONE believes that they are a better driver than everyone else. It's just that I truly am.
I would be willing to prove this fact.

SO???? Using a turn signal has nothing to do with DRIVING skill. That is just a action done out of courtesy. Drivers like me dont have time to be courteous. Also, you know that I use my turn signal in traffic and stop and go situations. I just dont see the need for it on rural stretches of the interstate where the only one who will witness it will be a cow and maybe an armadillo or two.

Now that TG has gotten to get on his soapbox of what is good driving and what is not. it is my turn. I will agree with TG in everything that he said. I will not say that he is better than I am, and I will not say that I am better than he is. I will however guarantee that we are both better drivers than most any female in the world.
I have been in several wrecks (6 to be exact), I have no problem admitting it, I will also say that I have been responsible for only one of those. The others were either idiots or drivers who were not skilled enough to be on the road.
I think that a good reason that some guys get the rep of being bad drivers is we get bored behind the wheel. In normal driving down the interstate, no traffic, no road kill, we get bored with just going in a straight line. This being one of the reasons some speed, some swerve, some change lanes for the fun of it (without using their blinker) some just down right like to get crazy. Boys look at their vehicles like big toys. We like to have fun with our toys and play with them. We don't get off on fixing our hair and shopping.
I think i have made part of point, and hopefully i will have a change to finish my point. please make any comments you wish, i will shoot down any reason you might have of why some people are worse drivers than others.

I remember driving behind TastinGood in high school...one time we were leaving the church parking lot and he cut the turn too tight...hit a big hole in his camaro and made a lot of noise...nothing was damaged but something should have been...then I remember another time I was riding behind him going down JFK...the road was straight and he ran up on a curb in front of U.S. Pizza...he isn't the driver he claims to be...

The corvette had a little more power than I was used to, and I ended up spun around in someones yard. Yes, that is true. BUT that was just stupid on my part. Everyone eventually fucks up when trying to show off. EVERYONE.
As far as wes's bullshit claims, they are just that...bullshit. First, the rode wasnt straight. It was the little bend on down from US Pizza after the red light.
I was 16 at the time and not near as good as I am now. Trust me. Im the best. [img]cool.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

Although maybe not the best, i will agree that jason with his racing experience is a far superior driver than some might believe. i will also agree that those driving mishaps that were mentioned have not occurred within the last 3 or 4 years. an eternity when it comes to driving skills enhancment time.

first of all i was not kissing anyone' ass. I was helping jason to make a point that i agree with. simply due to the fact that he has had a few accidents does not make him a bad driver, especially since they were in the past. similar to my situation, even though i have totalled multiple vehicles does not make me a bad driver simply because they were not my fault. people get labled as good or bad drivers based on facts that are taken out of context. one more example, if you were to look on my driving record right now, i would have zero tickets or wrecks, simply because i know how to handle my shit. this is after the fact i have been invovled in at least 6 accidents and have received just as many tickets.

I didnt have a driving accident! I wasnt fucking driving, I was SLEEPING! I consider it a sleeping accident. Like when you accidentally roll out of the bed and end up on the floor.

I can be in this post if i want. Just like hannibal said, he is always in control, i can not think of one time that i have not felt in control of my vehicle. tickets don't make someone a bad driver, it means they just get caught more. accidents, depending on who is at fault, does not make them a bad driver. and why in the hell is being compared to me so bad?

I think the problem is that Wes does not see the difference between being a skilled driver and being a model citizen.

and i agree with you. i will not claim that i would beat anybody on this board in a race, i will not claim that i am a better driver than anyone on this board, but my claim that i have been trying to make (as well as TG) I am not a bad driver simply because of my unfortunate luck. If there are any other non believers who still don't understand, i will gladly list my accidents and explain what happened in each incident, in fact, i might do that anyways, it makes for good reading.

i think that everyone has made some valid points.
accidents do expose your driving ability... depending
on the circumstances. if you are involved in an
accident, that wasn't your fault, you cannot
be held responsible for that accident. if you
are in an accident (without another person)...
such as hydroplaning or some shit, again, its
not your fault.
tickets for traffic violations (not accidents)
do not show driving skill. tickets merely show
how well you conform to laws... a totally unrelated
field.
however...
i think its very important to show what we are
comparing. it seems to me that 'good driving'
can be associated to many variables:
<ul type="square">[*] people/animals[*] weather[*] road/ground conditions[*] law restrictions[/list]
these can be placed into 3 categories:
sentient/environmental/social
the question is -- does it take all 3 categories
into consideration when judging 'good driving'?
take jason's accident into account:
no one was near him on the road when the accident
occured. the weather/road conditions didn't apply.
law restrictions? hmmmmm.... i dunno.
what he failed in was the first category... being
that he, himself, was tired and therefore,
the only one affected in the accident.
another scenario could be that a person (like
with hanny) could have several passengers,
regardless of weather/road conditions... and
drive from point A to point B as 'recklessly'
as possible without causing harm or injury to
himself or others. he would be disregarding
the last category while keeping in check the
first two. does that make him a bad driver?
so i think that it is important to figure out
what categories (or all) make for 'good driving'.

By the request of Jason, i will list my accidents with minimal detail.
Accident 1:
1989 Pontiac Grand AM - While stopped at red light of North Hills and JFK, was rear-ended, minor damage to trunk.
Accident 2:
1989 Pontiac Grand AM - After blowing engine during race down I-630 to I-30, and then onto I-40 at speeds exceeding 100 miles an hour, I blew my engine and pulled to the side of the road right in front of the Lakewood exit. While waiting at my house (after my dad picked us up) a drunk driver rear-ended my vehicle completely totalling it.
Accident 3:
1986 Dodge Caravan - While merging over 3 lanes on to get onto I-30 from I-40 there at the Lakewood exit. A semi got too close to me and clipped my rear end causing little damage, partly which was simply a broken tail light.
Side-note - The reason for not continuing driving the Caravan was that one morning when my dad went to start the thing, a small electrical fire started under the hood. At the point, we decided to sell it for scrap.
Accident 4
1991 Pontiac Bonneville - While pulling out of a parking lot downtown (exact address not sure of) I failed to see a speeding vehicle around a number of parked cars and pulled out in front of her. This totalled my car, and I was in fact ticketed for this accident (I still claim she was doubling the speed limit, and the cars parked on the street were illegally parked)
Accident 5
1996 GMC Sierra - This occurred nearly 2 years after my last accident, and I had just made my last payment the week before. On the way to Magnolia going down I-30 through Benton during fairly heavy traffic, a police officer decided to pull out and cut off traffic. This caused a huge break check (difficult to go from a smooth 70 to 0 in a short time). the police officer was able to not get hit, where as the vehicle in front of me hit the car in front of him, i hit the car in front of me, and the car behind me hit me. This once again totalled my vehicle.
Accident 6:
1997 Chevrolet Tahoe - While returning on a brief vacation to Branson, MO (the night of the Kid Rock concert here in Little Rock, I know this because Wes would not come get me because he was enjoying himself) I was coming down through Conway about to get on I-40. It was nighttime and the weather conditions were rainy. After coming to a stop at the stop light, i looked in my rear view mirror only to see 2 headlights from an old Ford F-350. He decided not to stop, he hit me at about 45 miles an hour, i hit the car in front of me, and they hit the car in front of them. Somehow no one received a ticket, my truck got totalled, the guy didn't have insurance, and i got the shaft again. As a side note, the ford had to be hauled off on a tow truck. I recieved just as much punishment on both of my bumpers as he did, and I drove home. More reason to buy Chevy.
That is a summary of my accident report. As of right now, I have not totalled the 97 Chevy Tahoe I am driving now, although i would not mind if someone would total it, because I would get a nice settlement out of it, and i would be able to get a car that doens't have so many battery problems.

Also.. on another point, I agree that Jasons racing experiance has made him a better driver. I can verify that with my own racing experiances. But I would have to say, I'm a better driver than Jason, on the fact that I've never had an accident. And yes, EVERYONE that has EVER ridden with me, has grabbed the "oh shit" handle at one point in time or another. If it's when i'm doing 75 down a windey gravel road, or when i'm doing 85 and passin people like a mad man on a two lane.. it doesn't matter! But to me, I'm always in control... when I have all 4 tires slidin sideways around a gravel corner, you'll see me, just sittin there, one hand on the wheel, one hand on my gearshifter, ready to chirp gears and get the hell outta that corner!
