Just ordered the NEW [ame="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008PX8P/qid=1053724854/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-0254386-3503122?v=glance&s=dvd"]Led Zeppelin[/ame] dvd release [img]tongue.gif[/img] + [ame="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00007CVTL/qid=1053724701/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/104-0254386-3503122"]Alejandro Sanz[/ame] Unplugged (feat.Vinnie).
Wondering if anyone have some good discs to recommend?

Bela Fleck, Live at the Quick is pretty bitchin', though I'm not a big fan of Future Man. All the other musicians are amazing.

In addition to the five hour Led Zep DVD (available Tuesday 5-26-03) there will be a three CD set culled from the last two nights of the 1972 USA tour. DISC ONE: Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, Black Dog, Over the Hills and Far Away, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Stairway To Heaven, That’s The Way, Bron y Aur Stomp DISC TWO: Dazed and Confused, What Is And What Should Never Be, Dancing Days, Moby Dick DISC THREE: Whole Lotta Love medley, Rock and Roll, The Ocean, Bring It On Home. I have had a bootleg of most of this for over 20 years and can't wait to finally hear it with decent sound. It's pretty smokin'.
The DVD features the entire Royal Albert Hall performance from 1-9-69: We're Gonna Groove, I Can't Quit You Baby, Dazed & Confused, White Summer, What Is And What Should Never Be, How Many More Times, Moby Dick, Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown, Something Else, and Bring It On Home. Also parts of the Earls Court shows in May '75: Going To California, That's The Way, Bron yr Aur, In My Time Of Dying, Trampled Underfoot and Stairway To Heaven. From Knebworth August '79: Rock and Roll, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Sick Again, Achilled Last Stand, In The Evening, Kashmir, and Whole Lotta Love. Plus there will be some Danish television footage of Zep in March '69 and the best of all from June '69: Communication Breakdown shot from over Bonzo's shoulder on a Paris TV show. This is the best Bonham footage available and his performance while spinning a stick and playing his famous triplets between one hand and foot will have you rewinding that segment over and over, I guarantee it. There will also be footage that didn't make The Song Remains The Same movie, notably Misty Mountain Hop and The Ocean.
I have seen all this footage over the years on washed out bootlegs and if you like Zeppelin, this is going to kill ya. The DVD set is only $29.95 and the CDs are $19.95.
We done four already and now we're steady and then they went . . . one two three FOUR!

Is that Sanz dvd mostly pop-oriented, or does VC & the band get to light up some latin-fusiony-esque type tunes? [img]wink.gif[/img] ...yoo know hah' us drummaz izz....

I have it, not bad. Mostly in Spanish, the syncing at times is off which is a bitch.

I recommend: GRP all stars live with Carlos Vega as also RIT special live. Faith Hill is OK but a too short running time IMO. Tom Brechtlein on Robben Ford's Ohne filter concert is OK but poor soundquality. Pat Metheney's Imaginary day live is cool without any further comments.
Has anybody seen Pat Metheney's Speaking of now - live in Japan? Are there any DVD's with Tony Williams?

I think Lee Ritenour's music can be a bit (too) cheesy sometimes, but then again Carlos Vega is/was always great.

Check out the Faith Hill "When the lights go down" DVD that Steve told us about.It's nice. Vinnie plays the pocket well. Nice tunes (for female pop kinda thing). Seems like she is slowly pulling away from country. It funny, the best tune IMO is "ONE" and it was written by one of the backup singers.

with Dennis Chambers-Drums, Mike Stern-Guitar, James Genus-Bass (awesome player), George Whitty-Keys.
Great performance! Hope it shows up on DVD.

I bought the Rit special which was a double disc along with Steps in tokyo through THIS company
As much as Carlos is/was one of THE players and his playing is as his standard usually is, GREAT. I found the disc to be very dissapointing. As described earlier....Lee can get Cheesy and this ones Gorgonzola through and through. Theres about two tunes which i enjoyed the rest is pop tosh.
The backing band is excellent as would be expected and the most notable thing is....why is carlos using a black yamaha tom with his Gretsch's? (Its also full of 80's electro drumming)
I've yet to check out Ritenour The Coconut grove disc which, i would presume is better than this. imho Its crap.
If it wasn't for the excellent Steps on with it....it'd be GONE!

RIT special live isn't cheesy at all IMO. I wish that I had proper technique like him on my instrument without moving my mouth so strange of course. [img]wink.gif[/img] At the moment a lot of bands are trying to sound as sloppy and alternative as possible. Finally an old concert appears on DVD where everything is placed where it should be placed with a perfect soundquality and with Carlos Vega. I was charmed by this disc; great band, great drummer and yes I miss him. Thank god there is also GRP all stars live with Carlos and I am waiting for Squibnocket on DVD.

I like anythg CVega; altho LR CAN get Limbergher [cheeeze...REALLY SMELLY cheeeze] at times...
...i have the LR album "Portrait," & it has Will Kennedy on the track "White Water," which is a nice tune [& good drumg, of course [img]wink.gif[/img] - even tho some might think the tune as "safe"]...
How 'bout it, Me [sounds like i'm talkin' to myself [img]wink.gif[/img] ] - is that Steps Ahead Live Tokyo dvd BURNIN or what?! i have it on CD - SSmith is killin' [awa the whole band]! [Even tho some guys complain that his meter "isn't as strong as DW's" [img]wink.gif[/img] - he's still killin' on it!]
Except the tune 'Trains;' he's good on it, but the orig [w Erskine, off SA - 'Magnetic'] is WAY better - it grooves harder [live version is too uptempo & rushed, & the orig's feel is lost]; & MBrecker's sax solo on the orig is DA BOMB... it'll make some a' u grown men [img]graemlins/cry_smile.gif[/img] - oh, don't u play coy, nah' [all macho'n sh**] - ADMIT it - it WILL ;=)....

Yep the steps Tokyo is one of my fav discs which is why i bought it on dvd. I like smiths playing on that disc compared even to some of his other stuff. Brecker is THE SHIT though, and i'm a BIG stern fan too. Along with the the munch on bass what more could U want.
If only Manieri's Wanderlust was on dvd...i'd be happier than a pig in....
I like Rit but i'd rather watch him with Fourplay & Harvey mason than Rit special. But thats me2.

The Niacin "Blood Sweat, and Beers" DVD is worth checking out if you like Dennis. Music is OK but production is good.
