D'you know, I didn't even realise it was his birthday.....
LOL I'm gonna do a 'Happy birthday Simon' thread on Saturday, as there is as much chance of him seeing as there is of Darren seeing his

I can easily go along with that.

There are the Dzine board and the Sony board for Birthday messages to be posted. (Not trying to be a mod here by the way.

Jan's right, this isn't a DH board and as she correctly pointed out, there are the D-zine and Sony boards for the (hundreds) of birthday threads that will, no doubt, appear tomorrow.

May I just say something here and please, please I am not targetting anyone here with what I'm about to say so please don't anyone take this personally.
Yes this is not a DH connected board anymore but I was under the impression that we were still able to post more or less anything including the occasional thread to do with Darren related stuff.
As far as birthday threads are concerned, I don't think the posting of them over here is actually the issue, it's just respecting the feelings of those people who do have strong feelings for him. I don't honestly think there was ever any danger of this place being flooded with birthday threads, because this has already been dealt with elsewhere. I just find the whole reminder thing a little unnecessary because it's simply not needed here.
I appreciate that this was done as a joke and not meant to be taken seriously but sometimes things done in jest do unintentionally cause people to react in a certain way even though no harm was meant.
I hope you can all understand what I'm saying here and not be offended by it because that's definitely not my intention.
's the whole SOS board
Janie xx
Janie has pretty much said what I was feeling. It is not about filling the board with birthday wishes. I was saddened because I felt that if I wished to just say "Hey it's his birthday and I hope he has an amazing day because he deserves to"; I couldn't. I am feeling a bit censored when it comes to saying anything about Darren.
Ok, now I am slightly irritated by the above two replies as has been said already, if people wish to say happy birthday there are the Sony and D-zine boards to do it on.
However, with that said I would accept the argument that I was a bit presumptuous with doing this thread
Oh, one more thing is that as it's unlikely Darren will see any birthday messages here, what's the point of them?

Gotta agree with Michelle here folks but sorry that you feel saddened by it Laurie.
*personally thinks that any birthday threads for any celeb are a bit silly*
*sigh* I guess I am not clear on what I mean. It's not about wanting to start a thread and fill it with birthday wishes that Darren won't see anyway. I hate to use this word, because I feel like it is a very over-used word and often people who use it don't really know its true meaning, but anyay... I guess it is just the principle of it all. I adore and respect Darren; and I feel that by telling me I can't mention his birthday (and again, it is not about birthday wishes, it is about feeling like I can't say what I wish), is telling me that I can't share myself and my thoughts and feelings.
I don't know if that makes sense.
Anyway... I'm off to a meeting..
Laurie, I get you and I'm sorry that we seem to be talking at cross purposes. It is not my intention to tell people not to like Darren, or to tell them they can't wish happy birthday to him, but I just don't see the point in them doing it here

I don't think that 'censoring' comes into it actually. What started out as a bit of a piss-take thread has become an issue and I find that very disheartening, especially on this board.
Since becoming a general discussion bbs as opposed to a DH fan board, no-one (to my knowledge) has even been told that they can't talk about him and let's be honest, there've been rather a lot of DH related posts lately. Personally speaking, I wouldn't mind if we never spoke about him on here but I've never complained about it b/c I can choose whether or not to read those posts.
I think that all Michelle is trying to say is that there's no point in posting birthday wishes on this board for a person that's never in a million years going to see them.

I don't mean to start trouble, but I have to say, I felt a bit unwelcome when I read the post. I had no intention myself of starting some birthday wish thread either, but I agree with Laurie's point. It's not about wishing anyone happy birthday here, but being told straight out that we can't say something about a particular subject....I'm probably not making sense or getting my point across the right way...but it came down to feeling unwelcome when I read that.
Just my opinion.
Michelle
oops! i guess i made a big booboo
*should have read this first*
just to enlarge upon my earlier post, when I joined this board I was informed it wasn't a specific DH board. I agree that posts about Darren do appear and indeed I have joined and read threads that discuss him and his music. Very interesting and thoughtful threads. However I do feel the posting of birthday messages here could be seen as unnecessary as there are other more relevent boards to post them on. I was not wishing to cause offence to anyone just posting my point of view. I understand your unhappiness re this Janie & Laurie and didn't intend to upset either of you. (or anyone else who was) but I feel there are more appropriate places for birthday messages and agreed with Michelle's request not to post them. I personally feel a little silly sending b'day wishes to someone I know won't see it and doesn't know me. But that is just how I feel and always have felt.

As this thread clearly started out as a bit of a piss-take (aka 'not to be taken too seriously'), I think that some ppl here have totally overreacted.

Yep totally!!! Its the Darren free bday zone!!!!!
cmon guys its fun fun fun. we cant just follow the trends we have always been a mass hype free zone.
Noone should feel unwelcome or unable to say what they feel. This is just a piss take as others have said and that is what I read it as. A sort of reaction to the mass bday threads that have always happened through the years on sony and savfan etc.
I think the thing to remember folks is lets love and respect EACH other as we are what is important in the end!!!!
so on that note.. Happy NON Bday Darren you savage piece of ass!!
Kat
I don't think that 'censoring' comes into it actually.

Neither do I.
Perhaps next year I'll do another no 'Happy birthday Darren' thread and I'll lock that one straightaway, so we don't have a repeat of what happened here.

I go away for the weekend and miss everything! I'm probably a bit late, and un-necessarily posting my opinion seeing as the conversation seems to be over, but I want to add anyway
Whilst I also appreciate that this thread was started as a piss-take... I do agree with what Laurie & Janie have said. I also dont think people posting their opinions on the issue is an over-reaction, just a difference in opinion.. but then again, thats just my opinion
's the board. Sorry to r/s this - but hey, it's sticky anyway so I havent really r/s'ed
PS - Steen, did you paint that? You have a great talent!

Thanks again Janie, sorry you have to see it all over the place!
you guys are awesome ^_^
Yeah Painter simulates a number of mediums including chalk pastel, water colour, markers and pencil It's been a lovely challenge to try to get results out of it
also thinks that is a brilliant painting Steen!
thanks Barb!

Whilst we came together through SG/DH (or most of us)it's not what sustains the relationships we have now, we are responsible for that...well that's my opinion.
