Hello everyone,
I have a 95 JRSC GSR just a little over 100K with 50K on the supercharger. The car has been running relatively trouble free until couple days ago. The engine seems to develop a mind of its own. When the enginer is cold, the RPM fluctuate between 3000 and 1500 and the idle speed stabilize to 1500 once it warm up. I checked all the vaccum hose and none of them seems loose. Have any of you guys out there have a same problem or may be a suggestion to what may have gone wrong.
BTW. The car still perform fine except for the erratic and fast idle that drive me nuts.
I reset the computer a couple time and it didn't help either.

Ben,
My Civic did the same and it was the fast idle valve, so I replaced it and has had no problems since. Tom

Try to adjust the FIV(should be under TB). If it doesn't help then you may need to replace it all together. Happy tuning http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. When you say the problem is the fast idle vale (FIV), do you means the FAST IDLE THERMO VALVE. The Integra Service Manual suggest to run the enginer until it warm up(until radiator fans comes on), then check the lower port of the throttle body for suction. If suction can be felt, then it is the FAST IDEL THERMO VALVE leaking. It also suggest to check for air trap in the collant. I also replaced the radiator a month ago due to the infamous acura radiator upper plastic tank leak. My car does not comes with a bleeder valve as indicated in the manual. How do I make sure there is no air in the collant system before I buy a FITV from the dealer. I am going to call them to find out how expensive they are.
Bigkat,
How do you adjust the FIV? The service manual said the FIV is preset in the factory and it is not user serviceable. Even I can adjust the idel speed back to 750RPM. But it is normal for the engine to run erratic betwen 1500 - 3000RPM when cold. Even when it warn up, the engine stabilize to 1500 after hunting between 1000 - 2000 when I release the throttle.
Here is a little bit more history on the vehicle. The JRSC was installed two year ago, the erratic idle has occur last year. But it only run from 1000 - 2000 rpm when cold and stabilize to 800 RPM once it warm up. So I had lived with this. Until now it is become quite annoying since people starting to look at you with weird engine noise on the stop light.
Thanks again for any input.
Ben
PS. I have the JRSC 6PSI kit.I have not upgraded the fuel pump yet.

I just had the same problem, kinda! My 95 GSR has 59,000 miles on it and has been Sc'ed for 10,000 of those. After a hard race on the freeway, the car started revving from 1500-3000 nonstop. It would sometimes stop and hover around 1500, but only after it warmed up.After full inspection of all vacuum lines, removing the blower and checking all seals, I found the problem.Something was stuck or just plain rattled around in the IAC(intake air control) valve located below the throttle body. I think that is what this valve is called, but it is not the IAC on the back of the throttle body. The valve I am talking about is located underneath the throttle body and it has a coolant line (kinda aims up in the air)that attaches to it in the front of the throttle body. If the integra is a 96-00 you have to replace the whole throtlle body. If it is a 94-95, the part is seperate and cost me $75. Fast Idle gone. Thank goodness.I drove with it high idling for 4 weeks. That sucked. Good Luck!

I have the exact same problem. It is like a vacuum leak only when the engine warms up it goes away!!! Since Acura put the blower on though it is doing it all the time, which leads me to believe it now is a vacuum leak http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif

Sounds like you're describing the FIV.

VTECRACER,
You are right, I took off the Air Intake Assembly and did the Fast Idle Valve inspection procedure describe in Integra Service Manual 11-94 and sure enough the FIV is the culprit. When the car is warm up, the lower port of the throttle body is susposed to closed but it sucking air like crazy.
Bad thing is none of the dealership in the Chicago area have them in stock. I will have to wait until next Wednesday for the part to come in and it will cost me around $80.00. Ouch. The part guy said he have never sold a Fast Idle Valve for the GSR. I guess I am just a very unlucky person.
I also sked the service people whether there is a temporary fix like using some kind of gasket to block the opening for the air inlet to stop the idleing madness. They said NO. I can live with the car idle at 800RPM when cold. It just take longer to warm up to operating temperature instead of the crazy idle.
I will let you guys how it go next week when the part come in.
Thanks again. You guys have been a big help.

Okay! I don't have the FAST idle problems. I on the other hand have the EXACT opposite! My idle is so low that I can't keep the AC on and not have the car accelerated cause the idle is SOOO low that the AC compressor can't turn on. Thus I get WARM air! Only when I accelerate the car it then blwos cold air. Sometimes when I have the ac on and I let the car drift to a stop it turns off! The idle is soooo low that I can't even tell sometimes that the car is on or not! The idle is BELOW 500 RPMS without the AC and under 200 with the AC If I am luk enough to have the car runnning!
My CEL light is also on and the last time I jumped it to get the code all I get is code 14. My friends tested the resistance of the sensor on the IAC valve and it's fine.
Can anyone help?????

Folks,
I got the NEW Fast Idle Valve for $85 from the Dealer. Took off the FIV and found that mine was rattling and the new one feel solid. Even the service manual said the FIV is not servicable, I still take it apart to find out what cause the rattling noise since I got nothig to loose. I am going to throw it away anyway. It was the plastic retainer that contacting the metal plunger is loose. I simply cleaned all the parts and threaded it back in and reinstalled the old valve.
Now the "old FIV" is functioning perfect again. The erratic idle is gone and it idle rock solid at 700RPM.
The dealer will accept the return with no handling charge.
This fix does not cost me anything except for a few blisters on my thumb caused by not waiting the car to fully cool down.
Mouhadib,
I think the problem most likely is the IAC valve. I don't believe you can check the resistance of the valve to determine whether it is fine.
Thanks for all the helps from this board.

Benny- That is what I was talking about. The was a plastic screw looking piece that we all talking about(Civic guys). Man everything is preset from the factory. But things always find themselves loose or broke. Any way, I emailed you about it a few days back. I guess my email didn't get to you. Glad to hear you fixed it.

Bigkat,
Thanks. Somwhow I didn't get your e-mail.
I set up in my profile to received e-mail notification whenever prople reply my post but I never get them. However I did received e-mail when I e-mail myself by clicking on the e-mail icon on the post.
If I got your e-mail I would have just go ahead and fix it instead of living with the annoying erratic idle problem while waiting for the FIV arrive from the DEALER.
I am wondering how to prevent the plastic retainer from becoming loose again due to vibration. Can you put locite on the thread and that may fix the problem for good?
Ben
