good for him.
but i feel that had he bigger balls... his so-called
'epiphany' would have shown him that his actions
only required the responsibility of HIMSELF...
in which he could have helped himself without
the aid of rehab.... after all, no amount of
rehab is gonna help unless you really help yourself.
but anyways.....
True but sometimes everything is easier said then done. The body has great ways of healing itself yet we still have hospitals of sorts of varities. Heck people been having babies for centuries yet I would guess that in the USA 90%+ of all babies are now born in a hospital.
maybe so....
but there is a vast difference in bearing a child
or repairing a wound than realizing that you've
fucked yourself and only you can help youself...
you've decided to do the drugs and/or alcohol...
you've decided that you don't want to do it anymore....
why go to someone else to show you how to stop
what you already know how to do?
Jack's only 12-steps away from Hell.
jesus christ that reminds me.....
(no offense to any 12 steppers in here)
everyone that i have ever met that has belonged
to AA... has been nothing but the most arrogant,
conceited hypocrites i have ever met (in accordance
to a vice).... oh man... it must be the god
thing they push in AA... but seriously, i've
met my share of them... and my last boss (and
his wife) were alchies...
talk about weird!
*doctor Hanny enters... carrying a few folders filled with odds and ends*
Eh-hem...
That's all great, but just because she can do it, does not mean everyone else can. There are people out there, who's mental capacity will not allow them to do such actions, without help from professionals, and/or medication.
You can say whatever you want, but when it boils down to it.. there is misfirings in the little neurons that they cannot control, that cause them to need the help they seek out. They can't control the neurons, therefore, no matter how badly they want to "help themselves" ... they can't.
So when people seek help, it's not "weakness" actually, it's intelligence. Because a lot of mental illness... people are 100% unaware of!

Addictions are tough, but overcomeable.
The human mind is so.... wonderful, and mysterious!
All hail the human mind!

*btw* in my Personality Theories class this past year, we learned a lot about addictions and what not. It was pretty interesting how all the different psychologists viewed things. Some took the client centered approach, which was more shatzy's point of view, while others looked for other things to help their patients.
So many theorists, so little time!
Anyone interested in learning more, feel free to PM me or drop me an e-mail.
Dr. Hannibal - all things psychology, - all the time!
oh lord
well, hanny, as far as i know my vices, granted they're not that big vices, i do know that to overcome them i had to rationally realize that i had this vice and addiction. Something that can be very hard on your own. But from there it's a matter of willing to quit, you have to rationally decide you don't want to anymore, and from that point on you can rationally stop doing it (Sure, there is still the need/habit of your behaviour), the only way to really alter your own behaviour is by thinking and changing things. But it all boils down to finding your flaw, realizing you don't want it anymore, and getting it out of your system.
(You gotta know the feeling->thinking->doing->feeling circle, psych 101)
I dont know... ever been addicted to anything?? Some thing need more help then others. Why knock him cause he went for help? I mean if he gets out and gets back on it then it becomes the crutch that many movie and rock stars use to say HEY LOOK ALL BETTER only to fair again. But I dont think it is as cut and dried as you think. Peer pressure, lack of self esteam and many other factors tend to play a part. I dont think they are there so much to say hey quit drugs they are BAD. But more to tell you how you can live your life without them and be the opposing voice to all the ones telling you that you should take them.
i've had many vices in my day....
i had been involved in many things i haven't
ever discussed on this board...
but for me, yes, it was simply a matter of telling
myself i didn't need it... and i overcame it.
i didn't go to rehab, i didn't do shit. i just
told myself what i was doing wasn't constructive
at the time.
i never knocked the kid for what he is doing,
i just don't understand rehab, i suppose.
