It was easy. I used big hose clamps around the top and bottom of the charcoal cannister to hold the Jaz catch can's metal bracket (that bolts into the can's sockets).
The vacuum caps that come on the Jaz can fit perfectly over the Tee that the PCV hose used to head to.
I had to cut the PCV valve in two places (into three pieces) to gut it out. A little sanding and some epoxy and it's back in business. I would recommend trying to buy the proper elbow. This was not worth the time it took to do.
I took pictures, but they will likely suck.

Finally! Did you reset the ECU Greg? Post some picts.
Now is time for the 8lbs pulley. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
On a side note, I wonder if MrRogers finished his catchcan setup as well.

This week I swear. I have the new hose (15ft) so I can eliminate the "T" and I have the fitting and the sorts to do the oil filler cap to complete the install. I am glad that Holden said where and how he mounted the can cause that was gonna be the hardest part. Holden-why did you choose to keep the pcv valve (though gutted) and not just run the hose straight from the oe box to the can? Well I will get pics up as soon as I have it in http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

I didn't realize what a pain gutting a PCV valve is. When I saw they were $1.99, I figured I could afford a few attempts!
Unfortunately, 7 hours wasn't enough for the epoxy to cure, so this morning when I went to plug it in, it broke apart at an epoxy seam.
It would have been a very neat solution.
I'm heading to Home Depot at lunch to fabricate something. I'll pick up an aluminum box bar while I'm there http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
You guys didn't just plug the 3/8"ID hose right into the oil box, did you?
Zip: I don't think an ECU reset would help me since the ECU hasn't stepped in and retarded timing.

What's the purpose of this catch can thing? Does it work? Where did you get it from & how much? What's the part number? Thanks

Back from Home Depot. I found the perfect replacement for the PCV valve.
It's a "Poly Hose Barb To MIP Elbow - 3/8x1/4"
Basically, it's a plastic 90 degree elbow almost exactly the size of the PCV valve. One end has a barb for 3/8" ID tubing. The other end is meant for a pressure fitting on a 1/4" OD tube. It's threaded, but just the right size to fit into the OEM grommet in the oil box.
oh yeah, got the aluminum bar too.

Holy cow!!!! Looks like you guys had a war on catch can topic awhile back (before I was born) http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Anyways, I'm still getting my catch can on..hehe...Finally, got all the hardware.
I went to Home Depot and saw what Holden's
suggested, that 3/8" x1/4" elbow but I found two female/male brass conector I believe would fit better into the PCV valve place.
Basically, after you connects the threaded female/male connectors, you get the 3/8" x 1/2" barb.
Well, there's another problem..I can't find the damn PCV valve. I moved the intake tubing/front strut bar etc..can't see it anywhere...crawled under the car, reach up and feel around the oil filter area, don't see it anywhere...Where the heck is it?? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

If it's on a GSR the PVC valve is located on top of the oil separator (small black box) which is mounted next to the oil filter toward the passenger side.
YOu can actually see the valve if you look from the passenger side down under the JR intake past the throttle cable linkage. Mines a 90 degree red elbow.

Finally got mine on also. Heres the pic of mine mounted.

Since this can is kinda big I decided to mount it in the front where things are still a little more open.
I decided to tap the unused hole in the coolant flange 10mm x 1.25 and use a bolt with nuts to lock it in place. Since stores were closed today I used a short bolt temporarily but the longer one will go through both holes on the can.
I do have a couple questions though.
1. Do you have to replace the OE PVC valve with a open fitting? It doesn't seem like having one more check valve would obstruct the flow especially the suction seen under boost compared to NA.
2. On the 96+ GSR install the line from the PVC valve gets "t"eed into the line to the purge solenoid valve. Do you just connect it PVC & PSV to "t" - "t" to catchcan - catchcan to intake barb.
3. When running this kind of closed (Moroso- baffled) can is it recommended to run a line from the valve cover to the can (eliminatimg the breather filter), and if so where should it tap in?
-
According to TOO's, you should only use one PCV valve on top of the can.
BTW, that's a great place to install that Moroso can http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
-
What is the purpose of connecting the valve breather to the catch can?? why not just the little K&N filter there??
-
With a closed system, connecting the valve cover breather to the can would make the intake suck only on blow-by gasses.
I'm guessing, but if you left a filter on the valve cover breather, you would suck air into the head and down through the crank and into the intake.
I don't know which is better.
Turismo: I have an open system and left the fuel vapor lines connected to the intake as they were. I put a vacuum cap on the Tee where the PCV hose used to connect.

My PCV valve is not directly attached to anything, it is extended with a host and just sitting near the goosneck above the thermostat housing. Keep in my I have an LS.
-
Guys,
I just joined and I have a 00 Si, Please see my comments in the CLUBSI Messageboards under Got Boost?- JRSC tricks that work.
The catch can is cool but there is a simpler and much cheaper solution for a street driven, non-pump evacuated (a la drag race smog pump crankcase pressurized) motor. TOO's system is great but it's kind of overkill for a </= 2litre motor. You won't find any more hp the more expensive way because they both accomplish the same thing.

here's an example of my jaz catchcan, although i haven't had a chance to get it too the oil seperator, cuz i feel as though its going to be a pain in the ass.. and don't know what i'm going to cover the whole in the intake with yet... but you get the idea

isn't that catchcan hooked up incorrectly? I have the inlet on the intake tube capped off. The two inlet on the catch can feeds for valve cover vapors and vapors from the oil separator box.
-
question for Zip? or anyone who understands the full setup. Hello, I've been trying to understand the whole setup -and I thought i had it straight- until the thing with the hose to the oil cap.
can someone outline where this additional line goes? is the catch can still routed between the valce cover and the oil seperator box??
thanks, and sorry for contibuting to the beating of this dead dog!

I agree. This discussion has become tiresome. And there aren't any gains until you increase boost anyway!
To answer the question: The hose from the oil filler cap REPLACES the valve cover breather. You cap that fitting if you do this mod.
I never quite bought the argument for this being neccasary. It may be a D-Series thing only. Zip can fill you in on the rest.
