Just tossing out an idea. I know that there are quitea few people who live within a 4 hour drive/train ride to DC. It has been a while since we got together so....
Anyone up for a DC Gathering?
Here are the pros of meeting in DC
1) Good Food
2) Pretty much all the museums are free (meaning cheaper trip)
3) I don't have to travel (OK that one is selfish but I figured I would be honest about it)
4) Travel around DC is ridiculously easy
5) Lots of reasonably priced hotels
What do people think?
Hmmm...wonder if Shawn is interested in another road trip. Or, even if she has a helmet.

Depends on when. I've never made it to a single gathering yet, between timing and no money. [img]frown.gif[/img] Now that I'm employed I might could afford a trip, it just depends on when it happens. I'm going to be spending a lot of time gone in the next few months.
Wizz, I talked to her a while back, I have a feeling a road trip is not out of the question. Just let her drive, she won't get speeding tickets and you will. (grins)
Timing is up to you guys. I cannot take time off of work yet, I need the days I have accumulated for Thanksgiving, a wedding, and Christmas, so I am thinking next Spring or Summer. Plenty of time to plan and save. Fall here is suppose to be gorgeous but that would mean putting together a trip really fast and I don't think that would work for Wizz and Queen GOP. Then again, they can do sight seeing stuff together when I get stuck at work. Their call.
Obviously, for those who are only a train ride or a car ride away a weekend would work fine. For those who might come from a greater distance a weekend would not be enough time.
If I can get the weekend off for a gathering I would be up for it. I just started a new job, so can't take really extended time away right now.
But it would be a fun place to meet. So if I can make, sure thing! [img]smile.gif[/img]
Well, If it is in the cards for Karina and I, I am thinking sometime late spring or even anytime into next summer?

Wizz I talked to Queen GOP. I am thinking that the motorcycle is really, really unlikely. By that I mean, she said she would fly if you want to drive out on the motorcycle. Sorry
So lets say in the spring. I would suggest in June. Why June? The weather is still tolerable and there are fewer tourists. We might be able to get tickets to see Congress in session (if people want)

I haven't been to DC in a while. Love the museums. I spent a long lazy afternoon exploring after I was admitted to the D.C. bar. There is something a little special about swearing to uphold the Constitution of the United States in Washington, but spending time practically alone with the Impressionists was special too.
June can still be plenty hot....

Ian, if you come, don't fly British Airways, their flights seeme to get canceled more frequnetly then other airlines....
I'm still interested, but June won't work for me. The work schedule is still firming up, but it looks like I'm spending that month in Canada.
Maybe next time.
I don't think I've ever flown BA. United Airlines and, ummm *thinks* American Airlines, maybe, er I think.
I like getting places, I'm not so fussed on how, so I generally go for the cheapest option, and that is very rarely British Airways LOL!

Ian, good to hear because flying BA sounds like it is hit and miss right now.
It's hard to say, the work schedule is set in jello. July is open at the moment, but I've been to DC in July (I have a friend who's stationed nearby) and it's wicked hot there in July. August is also fairly clear, but it's even hotter then.
Don't worry about me, you guys figure out what you want to do. I don't expect anybody to change their plans to suit me.

HI all, sorry I've been gone, but I had a hard time finding you all.
I'm always up for a road trip, and I'm in desperate need of a vacation.
Throw in 2 years of tax returns, and all of last years unused vacation pay, I can even have some fun.
(Did I mention I need a vaction) Besides what could be more fun the Renee and I together in the nations capitol?
Don't have a helmet, never needed one with my hard head, but I could always pick one up.
Any time works for me, as long as give my boss 2 weeks notice of the time I need off.

Ah, the memories of my misspent youth. I think we were the only 2 people who could get an A in the class, while getting an unsatisfactory in effort.
Yup. My basketball coach could not believe that he had to pull me aside to discuss my citizenship score. I was in danger of being booted from the team. He actually counseled me to not take classes with Queen GOP in the future. (grins)
