Hi,
Having just bought Kirsten, now I am thinking of buying Felicity before she disappears (such a shame!). Since it is mainly for my almost 8-yr old daughter to play with, I am wondering if I should buy a new one from AG or a used one from eBay. Anybody knows how much she changed over the years (facial only).
I saw this ebay add. It does not look like most Felicity I saw before:

Any advices are appreciated.
I have two older Felicity's and the most obvious change is the hair color. Mine have redder hair than the newer ones. I also think the complexion is a bit different. I have had both good and bad luck on eBay buying dolls. Mostly good, but the bad ones are really bad- one doll was described as having a lazy slow eye when in all actuallity it was almost pushed into the socket. That would have freaked my daughter out!!!!
I have two older Felicity's, and they look very different. One has darker makeup and very red hair. The other, from 1986, has light auburn (brownish) hair and practically no make-up. I guess it just depends on personal preference. I like the one with the redder hair!

I thought Felicity came out in 1991?

I was just wondering...what do y'all (I'm not even Southern!) mean by saying Felicity has auburn hair? I have the older Felicity that has orange-y hair, so I'm not able to compare.
As someone with auburn hair, I'm not sure people are using the term correctly. Auburn means brown hair that just has a reddish or blondish sheen to it (for example, it looks reddish or blondish when a light is on it). My hair is just a little lighter than brunette hair with red highlights in the sun. People used to fight over whether I had brown or red hair--that's when I finally realized it was a different color altogether (auburn). So does Felicity have brown hair now? If so, they have gotten so far away from her original book illustrations!
NurseSarahRN, that could be a copyright or trademark for her face mold...maybe? Since she has the same face mold as Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly they wouldn't have to to renew the license.

I meant brownish red by "auburn"...She is a 1986 doll, which I heard are supposed to have very red hair. Compared to my other Lissie, it looks almost brown.
We have two Felicity dolls here. I have an older one and my daughter has a new one. The older one has drabber, less red in her hair. I also just recognized that she has almost no lip color. I think I'm going to paint lips and frckles on her. She isn't one of the early originals with the Ivory colored fabric torso, hers is the same color as her skin. I bought her second hand on Ebay and I was wondering if I washed her hair if it brighten some. Has anybody washed their dolls hair? Jan
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Is it hard to paint lip color on a doll? I was thinking of doing the same thing after comparing my old and new Felicity dolls. The makeup on the newer one really brightens up her face. Maybe I should just send her in for a head transplant.Quote:

I don't think Lissie ever had a "white" muslin body. I think those were limited to the first three girls. Lissie was designed and prototyped in '86 but released in ' 91. Both of mine are 1986 girls and they have red hair and light makeup.
As far as painting the face. I used Dr. Martin's watercolors which are liquid on a 000 watercolor brush to tint the lips on an AGoT I rescued. I have also airbrushed cheek color on a doll. I thought it was a bit tough, and I am a designer, to get it right, but I worked really slow.
I have washed my girl's hair. I use a mild organic baby shampoo and no more tangles for comb outs. I am going to try to post some photos of my girls in the next couple of weeks.
The Felicity which my daughter will be receiving on Christmas is the new Felicity. When we first received her my daughter said, "I didn't think she would look like that." We had expected her hair to be redder like the illustrations in the books. My daughter's hair is similar in coloring to the book Felicity and she thought the doll's hair would be the same color.
I had debated whether to buy her an older Felicity on ebay but was afraid that it might be one of the "bad" deals that mom_to_an_americangirl described. Since Lissie was to be a gift for my daughter I knew that if I wasn't happy with an ebay doll that I couldn't return it. So we ended up getting a new Lissie from AG.
My daughter has now grown accustomed to Lissie and is beginning to bond with her when Lissie comes out of the spare bedroom to visit. My daughter keeps telling me that she can't wait until Christmas gets here so she can get Felicity!
Thanks for information on the water colors. I thought I would try chalking her cheeks with a Q-tip or chalking brush. The other thing I wanted to add was that I noticed the red haired Agot dolls at AGP had redder hair than Felicity does now. I was so tempted to buy one but chose another instead! Jan
I have an older Felicity and she has reddish-gold hair. Her body matches her "skin" color. The newer Felicity has brighter green eyes and darker hair. I do not think Felicity was ever produced in 1986. If she was, she was never shown in the catalog.
With facts about the body tags with dolls they don't change the tags with the years. I am guessing all causion bodies come off the same line and new heads are fitted. Since the first dolls were Kirsten, Samantha and Mollt when Felicity came out they just used the same body. YOu can pick up a brand new doll at American Girl today and take off her clothes and there will always be a tag saying 1986 becuase that was the year the body was first produced not the first Felicity doll produced.
I have a new Felicity (Christmas '02) and our local bookstore has an early 90's Lissie on display with their AG books. The older one I saw had brighter orange-red hair and much lighter make-up. My Lissie's hair is a definate auburn. It looks like a somewhat coppery brown but turns more red if the sunlight hits it right or if I take a flash photo. Her eyes are also MUCH greener than the ones on the older Lissie and she has rosier cheeks.
I think I am in the same boat as you are Virginia.
The only thing my daughter can compare it to is against the illustrations in the books since none of her friends have the doll and she's never seen one either. But from what I can gather, since none of the dolls really look like the illustrations, she will have to adjust to her anyway. Hopefully she will bond with her.
I kinda like the redder hair better. And it seems the older doll also has the curls around her face that makes her look so cute.
But I think I would buy a new doll from AG to show that there are still demands for Fecility. Hopefully that will keep her alive a while longer ...sob !-(
BTW, what about freckles. Felicity got to have freckles, right?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The newer doll has the curls around her face too. You can't really see them in photos online or in the catalogs. Here's a link from the AG site where you can see the curls around the face of the newer doll.Quote:

Unfortunately none of the Lissie dolls have freckles, neither the old or new ones. I really wish she had freckles. It would make her more like the character in the books. I know that a couple of Felicity's stories mention her freckles. My daughter wishes that Lissie had freckles too, since she has freckles herself.
I bought the new Lessie in March. She definitely has Auburn hair. But you can see a lot or red in it when the light hits it the right way. I don't think she really looks like the illustrations but neither do most of the dolls. I was surprised how dark Kaya's skin was. My husband even asked me why they made Kaya black. Also all the dolls have the same face mould. So they can only look like the illustrations so much.
lieu, do you have a Kaya from when the doll first came out? My friend's Kaya (brought really soon after her release) lived with me for a while and my dad asked if she was the African American doll! However I have a new Kaya (got her for my b-day last month) and she is a whole lot paler. Vampire Kaya? I wonder if they have changed her skin tone or mine was just made from another batch of plastic. I'll try and get a picture of the two dolls together.
We got Kaya as soon as she came out. She is very dark skinned. Maybe people commented on it and Pleasant company changed the doll. My husband thought she looked African American too. I think I would have preferred a lighter tone. She would resemble the character more.
What a coincidence! My daughter has freckles too. But she has auburn hair. Maybe she will bond with the new Felicity just fine!
I think the older doll has curls around the face as well. Also, I never noticed freckles on her. Does anybody else's Lissie have freckles?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I am on the east coast, though in central Virginia and not along the coastline. When Hurricane Isabel struck, we had heavy rains and high winds with a chance of power outages. Last night my daughter got Felicity from the spare bedroom and snuggled with her. Naturally, I got Josefina also. Quote:

Lissie and Josie slept in a laundry basket lined with a beach towel and covered by baby blankets. I knew that when my daughter sought out Felicity when she was scared that she had truly bonded with her. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
BTW, the dolls are still in the laundry basket. They are sitting up watching me type at the computer.
