What are you reading?

What books, magazines, etc. are you reading currently?

Psychology, World Civilizations...oh wait, textbooks don't count.

Before classes started, I was reading John Fante's SELECTED LETTERS 1932-1981. The monthly pro wrestling magazines. That's really about it, I just don't have time or much motivation for pleasure reading right now.

I'm currently reading "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon. Beautiful writing, beautiful book. If you love comic books, it's even better.

Just finished reading "Undone" by Michael Kimball. So-so. Didn't realize its potential. Also couldn't figure out if it wanted to keep the reader or just the main character guessing until the end.

The Bread Baker's Apprentice, Professional Baking, and ... shoot, textbooks still don't count.

Will I get lynched here if I admit to being a Nora Roberts fan? I'm currently rereading some of her "... In Death" series.

I've recently re-read Bukowski's POST OFFICE and FACTOTUM.

Sat in the Campus bookstore and read Nobody Gets the Girl by somebody Maxey yesterday. Pretty good, but I can't believe Jim Shooter didn't see the McGuffin coming. I sure did.

Slowly working my way through the Fante SELECTED LETTERS.

I"m now working on Jeffery Deaver's "The Empty Chair". Another Lincoln Ryhme detective story ("The Bone Collector").

I'm always reading several books concurrently...this week it's mostly poetry: Il Cuore by Kathleen Fraser, New Math by Cole Swensen, The Book of Resemblances by Jabes, and Desire by Frank Bidart. An extended essay by Anne Carson I'm enjoying is Economy of the Unlost, her book on Celan and Simonides of Keos. New books I reviewed recently include Nest by Mei-mei Berssenbrugge and Problem Pictures (verbo-visual works) by Spencer Selby. Would be happy to talk with any of you page-nosers, especially those addicted to poetry and weird hybrids of fiction and poetry. Bill K. I just started reading John Irving's The Fourth Hand.

I'm now onto Patricia Cornwell's "BlowFly" and Stephen King's newest, the 5th in the Dark Tower series.

Finished reading Stephen's King's Wolves of Calla. Really enjoyed it. Glad the rest of the Dark Tower comes out later this year.

Just started The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, since everyone everyone I know talks about. We'll see what I think.

Not too long ago finished 50 SHORT SCIENCE FICTION TALES, Asimov and Conklin, Eds.

Currently reading KISS: BEHIND THE MASK, The Official Authorized Biography by David Leaf and Ken Sharp.

Also PENTHOUSE: NAUGHTY BY NATURE, Female Readers' Sexy Letters to Penthouse.

Am reading Dean Kootnz's FROM THE CORNER OF HIS EYE and just started Stephen King's SONGS OF SUSANNAH - BOOK SIX OF DARK TOWER series.

Anm also reading Lauren Keller( or is it Kelly?)'s TAKE ME, TAKE ME WITH YOU.

Still working through the RUSSIAN READER.

Finished the RUSSIAN READER a couple days ago, now am attempting to read some back issues of "Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine."

I'm on Stephen King's 6th DT book, Songs of Susannah.

Well, I read about 5 issues of EQMM, then put those on the back burner when school started. Between all the school readings, I'm casually going through THE PLAYWRIGHT'S HANDBOOK by Stuart Spencer. Have also bought some books of plays which I've glanced through. Oh, and C. went to yard sales this past weekend and got me some old Peanuts paperbacks that Fawcett used to (still does?) publish and I've read all those.

I'm now onto THE DARK TOWER, aka the last book in the series.

I'm trying to read Green River, Running Red by Ann Rule... very interesting.

DELTA OF VENUS by Anais Nin.
Before that, TO BE THE MAN by Ric Flair.
Soon to be working on BIG BAD LOVE by Larry Brown.

FAITHFUL, by Stephen King & Stewart O'Nan (covers the Red Sox 2004 series)

It's pretty good. Interesting to see their thoughts (it's still early in teh season). I've learned more about baseball than I cared to know. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Most of the writing (so far, anyway) is by O'Nan, not King.

Also reading a Stuart Woods book (forgot title) and:

LUCKY by Alice Sebold (author of The Lovely Bones).

TAKE TEN: NEW 10-MINUTE PLAYS, Eric Lane and Nina Shengold, Eds.

AMERICA HURRAH by Jean-Claude van Itallie (3 plays)

and

SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO and THE DUCK VARIATIONS by David Mamet (2 plays)

all in one day.

Not sure what to start now. Either more plays or that PLAYWRIGHT'S GUIDEBOOK mentioned earlier.

Kavalier and Clay (finally) and I found some old Modesty Blaise collections I'm drooling over again. She may well be my favorite fictional character of all time. [img]smile.gif[/img]

In one of my earlier posts, I should've also mentioned that I read WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE A DAMN ABOUT GAY MARRIAGE by Davina Kotulski, Ph.D.

Lately, due to the recent death of Hunter Thompson, I've gone through FEAR AND LOATHING: THE STRANGE AND TERRIBLE SAGA OF HUNTER S. THOMPSON by Paul Perry.

Currently almost done with GENERATION OF SWINE: TALES OF SHAME AND DEGRADATION IN THE '80'S by Hunter Thompson and then will start SONGS OF THE DOOMED: MORE NOTES ON THE DEATH OF THE AMERICAN DREAM, also by Thompson.

Currently, I'm Just Here for the Food, by Alton Brown. A cookbook for people who want to learn to cook, not just follow recipes.
