Hello. I mainly registered so I can have this question answered. I've been checking out this board for a long ass time now but never registered. So does anyone know if this is the original version of Another State of Mind?? Without the fighting scenes edited out??

are you referring to the dvd that's to be released in the summer. As far as i know it's supposed to be the same thing, but yeah because it's a dvd they may throw in more scenes and unedited stuff, hopefully
Because I heard there were 2 versions hence two different covers. But I am not really sure about that. The cover with mike and the bus is the edited one or so I heard.
hmm, i dunno if there's scenes edited out but it's possible. the one with mike on the cover with the bus is infact a rerelease through time bomb. I don't know if there's any differences, though I have read things about there being subtitles to the songs and a bad religion cameo in ASOM, which I've never seen in the timebomb version that I have. So its possible. Good question, I've always been curious to know the difference between the two myself.
on the rerelease it says 78 minutes right? on that one it's 83 or something..i wanna see those 5 minutes heh
I believe the original cover had that punk girl on it. Later, they added Ness standing by the bus, most likely because they became more popular in years to come and it's a better marketing strategy to have a well known face on the cover than so no name chick. As far as the fights you were talking about, I've read that the directors missed all that stuff. I kinda would like to see a where are they now type of extra added to the dvd.
hey misfit, funny you bring up the "where are they now" thing. I'm a film student with one more year left. A project I've seriously considered attempting to produce when I get out is just that, a 25 year follow up on ASOM. I was going to go out to Hunington Beach and stay with my cousin this summer and see if I could intern at BYO Records and possibly run it by Shawn Stern. But I got an internship with VH1 so I'm headed to NYC. Glad to know people would want to see that though, I really think I need to do it.
Hour of Darkness...what I highly suggest someone should do...is find a baby band NOW like all those were at the time, put a totally new spin on it, and then 20 years from now you'll have yer credit as document a new history ;-)
yeah. its too bad the distillers have made somewhat of a name for themself already. they would have been a good band for something like that in my opinion. but other than that, there's really not enough bands out there right now that I feel are interesting enough nor would I feel passionate enough about to put that sort of energy into towards doucmenting. its not just about getting my cred, the ASOM follow up is something that I want to see, so I'd make it.
I interviewed Shawn Stern in 1996 and he said that he was involved in a film project titled "Searching for America". Dunno if it was a sequel to ASOM.
I later read it that SFA was to be to documentary on the first 10 years of BYO Records and I don't know if it ever came out...
dope fiend, yeah i'm pretty sure it did come out. it wasn't really a follow up on ASOM in any way though.
i stumbled on this older thread and was wondering if Hour of Darkness ever got a chance to work on his idea? i bought the ASOM dvd over the weekend and watched it, and was searching for posts about it. i think it'd be cool to do a "where are they now?" edition, but follow that with "where do you see yourself going?"

really funny that this got pulled up. i just for the first time saw the ASOM dvd.
I never went out and bought it, but was talking about it at work with the sound mixer of the show I'm working on. He had it and let me borrow it.
It made me think of how I used to think about doing that. But I also felt like the DVD commentary sort of filled that role in a way.
I never did pursue it anyway and I'm currently work on a documentary of a totally different topic.
I still think it'd be interesting to see though - and would make it if some sort of an opporunity were to come my way.
