Darren's message re ARIA performance

is no longer on the F/C news section, so for anyone who may have missed it:-

"22nd October 2003 - Message from Darren re Delta Goodrem

I just wanted to express my admiration and appreciation to Delta Goodrem, Sony Music, Mark Pope and ARIA for the incredible honor of singing for Delta at this years ARIA awards in Sydney Australia. It was everyone's wish to ensure the evening remained a moment for Delta - thus the complete secrecy of my participation and attendence until the moment I appeared on stage. Even my Mother and Father didn't know I was coming home to Australia for the event.. but it was done that way out of respect for Delta and her incredible triumph over her recent illness and of course her amazing musical achievements. My trip home was not one of self promotion but a favor for a fellow Australian and friend. I was humbled and honored to lend my voice to someone who temporarily couldn't find her own.
Here's wishing Delta a speedy recovery and the continued successful musical career she deserves.

heres a snippet that someone had posted from one of the papers.. smh I think

"Wasn't Darren Hayes spot on?
Called in from the US to pitch-hit on a piano-only version of Delta's Lost Without You, he found more in the song than anyone, including it's author, would have a right to expect. He gave a powerful, naked performance of a track that relies on a lot of clothes."

^ they basically just said it was removed cos it was removed. No proper (or polite and reasonable) explanation was given.

Then again, they don't have to explain things since "the mods decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into".

The message it seems to me was intended as a brief thank you, a get well wish and perhaps an explanation to his fans of what it meant to him to do it perhaps in response to some whining fans.

But...I have to agree with Michelle with respect to the mod's reply. I don't think it was helpful and actually brings a negative perception to the whole thing.

Thats all well and good if thats the case .. but why not just give that nice little explanation out???? I mean for god sake. I loved that it wasnt for publicity etc. But that was a great little statement. Fair enough it was temporary but the mods could of just stated something like you said and all would be well.

And left it up more than a couple of days so that more fans had a chance to read it. This is the type of thing that people will want to hear about if they missed the event.

It's just bizarre!

Also agrees with Michelle's and Mlue's points. When I read that thread today it made me feel disillusioned, smiley faces do not take away the tone I perceived!!! I also feel for the fans who only log in infrequently and missed it!

It wasnt a glory seeking statement. It was a touching message and yeah there would be fans who hadnt got a chance to see it yet. Sometimes the whole mentality of it amazes me. Least if they were taking it away say that it was the wishes of Darren or whatever.

I guess I think an explanation would sound odder. Maybe they didn't anticipate it would be such a big deal....I guess if it was me, I wouldn't have anticipated it was a big deal. Personally, I think some of the replies in the thread at the fc board are what made it a big deal. And I guess my own take would be that the moderators didn't know why it was taken down. But that's just all my guesses.

^ the point is that they were rude about it and they allowed people to jump all over Siobhan simply because she dared to ask why it had been removed.

One of the mods was also extremely defensive over the question being asked and I couldn't see any reason for her to be that way.

I don't think it is odd at all that it is gone. It really doesn't seem like a permanent type of message to me. I guess from one perspective leaving it up attracts attention to him and his performance which is contrary to what he wanted I think.

Good grief. The fan club took something off their webpage. It is hardly a grand powerplay over the fans. They are just people and regardless of how hard they try, it is impossible to anticipate every fan reaction.

I agree with Michelle that there was nothing wrong with asking that question and I thought the mods reply was wrong. Better to let people speculate then shut them down. But each moderator makes their own judgment calls. I have a hard time believing that some grand power in the fan club said to respond that way.

But...I've said enough too.

I agree with what's been said here...it seems really odd that the mods (or whoever) at the f/c would pull down the message without some kind of explanation...I do understand the point about perhaps not wanting to draw attention to D, but a short, polite explanation would have been good.

Pulling it down without a proper explanation makes it into a bigger thing than it otherwise might be. I think that shows poor judgment on the part whomever was behind that decision.

I have thought about joining the f/c before, and it's things like these that make me glad I'm not - seems like waaaay too many things are taken too seriously and that the fans are not treated very nicely by the "powers that be".
