that clip was insane. great double bass at the 20 minute mark. I've yet to hear him do stuff like that in person.

Good God. This man will ALWAYS make me shake my head. You know, here's something that happens with me personally. I'll listen to Weckl now, and he'll subconciously jump to the front, then I'll listen to Vinnie on something like this, and then HE subconciously jumps to the front. Those two guys are the very definition of a stalemate. Vinnie is still my personal fave, but both of them are absolute genuises behind the kit, and still, in my opinion, the best two players alive....period. (and I ain't sayin' that because this site is dedicated to them.....it's dedicated to them for a REASON).

Holy Shit I just got around to checking this out. This is INSANE.
I was really blown away by this. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to add this to the site.

One more thing can be said about Vinnie... He rarely repeats himself... Some much vocabulary and technic to deliver it... WOW!!!

You are right about that, blake...but it was prob only a moderate amount of LIGHT pasta [w a coupla dashes a' garlicolaiuta]...remember, no heavy foods/eating b4 da gig [img]wink.gif[/img] ...
I agree w u, CB, about it being a "little bit different" side of Vinnie...it was kind of like that for the Corea shows at the JVC Jazz Fest in NY, AW...he did not 'showboat' [a la what we can sometimes expect of the man - no slam intended; u guys know what i mean]...he was very attentive to the tunes [that's not to say that he isn't always] & actually seemed to be holding back some of his firepower, even in the trades w DW [except for this 1 in particular that comes to mind]...as was commented by another great drummer for a successful popular national recording & touring band, maybe he didn't want to show him up ["Don't make me have to turn the heat up on ya, son" [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]wink.gif[/img] ]..."now son, don't make me have to make this another BRMSC2 all over again; I'll try to keep the powder burns off your cheeks & 4head"...OK, i JEST, u guys...Weck's new dbl-live is FA-REEKIN ME OUT [muchas grass-e-a** to u-no-hoo]...DW is absolootely @#$%! SCARY on there...both these guys make most others look like frightened little schoolgirls, they are so dedicated to their craft...
PS...except Virg [& a few select others; no naming extravaganza again] - he def aint no "frightened little schoolgirl"....

That is absolutely disgusting....repulsive...discombobulating....naus eating. It is complete and utter PFFFFFFFFFFT!!!

Very few times during this solo is he playing a lick just for lick's sake. It just seems to be more than that, and that's why I can't stop shaking my head. His mind is a Pentium 13. I also think it's very safe to say that Vinnie rarely lays it all out on the table during performances like he does here. (if ever) I think he saves everything he has for moments that aren't very public.

than I hear in Vinnie.
I love it when he gives
tribute to Tony and then
to Steve and Billy and...
It just goes on and on!
They seem to all be in
there somewhere, taking
their turn at the lights.

What I like most about
Vinnie is his single-
kick and by the way, it
is clear what he's doing
on the double-kick. He
is really picking it up
there but it's the single-
kick for me that is just
SO controlled and SO
powerful. It's what's
behind everything.

Listening to him is al-
ways a wake-up call to
get your foundations
down, as well as keeping
the doors wide open to
new ideas for your color.

Dig that power-hip-hop
and then he takes you
somewhere else! He does
do it all!

Thanks Pete. I took about 5min for the thing to open but it finally worked. Very cool solo. I've heard a lot of Vinnie solos and this one was very different. I like the fact that he can always go somewhere you'd never expect and surprise you. I love Vinnie. Can I get a witness?
