Forgot the link. Doh!

This gentleman provides some detail on using these transformers. I have just acquired several 15095A trannies and intend to use them in DIY tube microphone preamps.
Best of luck.
Cheers,
Brian
i,
can I use the altec 15356 on an Altec 1612A Limiter Amplifier
?
Is it equivalent to the 15095 and 1595A ?
And what about the 455 BX ??? , can i put it into my 1612A ???
Nobody wants to talk about these pieces !!!!
Thanks for your help guys.

The answer is yes...those do go together. If you look in the catalogs that were of that era, they tend to have the listing of what goes into what.
For instance, the catalog that shows the incremental amplifier on the front (Black with red vertical lines)..on page 19 shows that the 15356A works with the 1612. Somewhere around here is a link that has many Altec Catalogs available for viewing (though not in PDF form, damit).
YES !!!!!
And the 455BX too ?????
I'm trying to fing these catalog !
TANK YOU !!! http://www.hostboard.com/forums/
Nope, I must admit I don't know the 455BX so I can't comment on that one. Sorry to raise your hopes.
Steve
Thanks again Steve
Tricky question...
Do you know the diffrence between the 15356 and the 15356A ?
cause I have a 15356 (not an A type)
Generally, Altec used suffix letters to denote a revision to an item. So the "A" would be the first revision. Note, the 288 made it all the way up to "L". The revision generally did not change its functionality or purpose be denoted a change in manufacturing that hopefully improved the product.
Steve
That's the kind of things I like to learn ;o)
Thanks !!!

As far as revisions- how bout the 416-z? http://www.hostboard.com/forums/
The ZZZZs were so-named in reference to the snoring from the lineworker whose job it was to install the magnet covers and decals. http://www.hostboard.com/forums/
I came across a 15356A while sorting some stuff today (yep, I'm still sorting, but I did find the bulbs I started looking for 4 days ago). Here's the scoop on it to compare with your 15356s;
15356A PINOUT
Primary (input) connection
pin 7; + phase in
pin 8; - phase in
strap pins 3 to 4 for 600 ohm primary
strap pins 3 to 8 and 4 to 7 for 150 ohm primary
(pin 4 is + phase of split primary, pin 3 is - phase when split)
Secondary (output) connection
pin 1; + phase out
pin 6; - phase out
600 ohm fixed
pin 2; can and core ground
Since a few Altec plugin xfmrs are interchangeable to suit the application, and many models could accept a variety of plugins, chassis' that accepted plugins all had the same (basic) socket wiring layout, varying only in grounding and strapping configurations. Based on the difference between the 15095 and the 15095A, I expect you'll find that the difference between the 15356 and 15356A is that the pin that grounds the can and core will be on pin 8 on the 15356, which is also the - input, while the 15356A is grounded through pin 2, leaving the primary ungrounded. I've found this to also be the difference between the 15335 and the 15335A. In most applications, using an "A" where a non-"A" is needed or vice-versa could be a big mistake. I'd have to say that in this case, the revision was an application-specific variation instead of an improvement, the best choice being the right unit for the job at hand. A general assumption could be if the accy socket pin 8 is chassis grounded, to use a non-A, and if pin 2 is grounded to use an "A", but since I don't have schematics for nearly all models, I won't say this conclusively. I'll bet there was a tech letter addressing the issue, but I've never seen one.
Hi there,
I got now a few pieces of transformers for my Altec 1612A and 1612B :
1588B - Excellent for Mic but also great for electric Bass ans find the pick up sound. (i orderd 4 more)
1588C - Excellent for Mic and also very goo for Bass to plug it in for a regular clean sound.
15095A - Suppose to be the one for line input...
15356A (Line Input) - i use it to plugg a DX (Oberheim)
15356 - still did not find a use for this one. No good for regular mics or instruments, or line. Still looking.
More feed back to come from the french guy...
Well, i have 2 questions for you pro"s" guys.
Do you know how to fix/set the vu meter on the 1612A ?
Do you know how to get separate outputs on these machines ?
I can't get to separate the signals... i'm so bad !
Well thanks to all of you for giving me the opportunity to share info about my Altec products !
One more thing :
I found out the way to change a 1612A from 110V to 220V.
I'll publish a pic soon.
