anyways.... so how do you think you'd feel
if a place, say hawaii, wanted to be its
own country? i mean seriously, let's assume
hawaii wanted to ditch the US and be its
own free agent.

now please don't get gay and say something
about how its impossible because we support
hawaii blah blah blah... this is just a
mental exercise....

how would you, as an american, feel about it?
what if there was a vote?
do you think a vote would be required?

what if hawaii got pissed off because there
was a vote and decided it was going to
be a free agent regardless of embargos,
and voting and all that shit?

Its an interesting thought Ive never thought of before.I suppose the bigger question is,if we let them succeed(<--I know I spelled that wrong) from the US,then doest that give Texas the notion to do it also.Come on,Texas already considers itself its own country right?

What about California?Dont they have enough Mexicans there to make it part of Mexico?California wouldnt do that,the Mexicans left Mexico for a reason,not to take over Cali and make it part of Third world Mexico.

Id be shocked if any state wants to leave.And no I wouldnt let them.

there is safety in number... which is probably
why the continental US would stay complete.

If the people of the state truly wanted to leave the union I really wouldn't have a problem with it.
On the other hand, if it was just a group of people, which happened to have alot of power, that wanted to leave, then I would have a problem with it. But, as it has been said before it wouldn't happen simply because those people have some bit of intelligence and would know that the moment they left they would be helpless against anyone who ever wanted to waltz over and invade. i hope they leave....i don't think it's fair that they get to be out there in the middle of the ocean and still get to be a part of this country, we not just make australia a state of the US, it's stupid if you ask me. let them leave, i'd be first at the voting office to get them out of here (actually, i wouldn't, i don't vote) but still.....

now, on a serious note...it doesn't matter to me, i have no connections to hawaii, they are as foreign to me as any other country out there, in fact, i think i know more about australia and i know more people from australia, than i do hawaii...yea...no connection for me at all.

honestly, I wouldn't care. I'm not sure what kind of person that makes me. I'm not sure why the thought doesn't arouse some sort of emotion in me, I guess it's because it doesn't effect me directly. [img]redface.gif[/img]

I went to Hawaii when I was ten to visit my sister who moved there to live for a year.Nice place.Saw Pearl Harbor,the North Shore,swam out to the dike on WaiKiki.Even went to the Big Island of Hawaii and trapesed across the lava area wher not a couple of years later Killaea began spouting lava.Black sand beach...did all the usual tourist stuff.

dont ever think never trampis there is a small island off of New Zealand that we support it is likely to become its own country within a year however we support it with 15 million dollars a year (or something like that) and thats virtually its total economy so financial circumstance etc are not everything when it comes to independence ... however why would you care? Does it even remotely effect you?

i think my point was not about a *state's* urgency
for independence... but moreso how the rest of
the *country* feels about it.

my second point was (hopefully) to illustrate that
we can support a *place* that wishes its freedom
from a much larger *place*... but then become
upset, almost hostile, when it shows they do
not wish to belong to *us*.
