Well here's the good news:
Laura has been offered another university place, after having had to write a rather complicated essay to a very tight deadline subject to some interviews next Wednesday [img]smile.gif[/img] They will last all day and will include group discussions and a formal individual interview. All this is of course subject to her achieving her predicted A2 grades. I am really proud and pleased for her. I don't think we realised what a tortuous process this whole university admissions thing is.
The bad news is:
My sister, her husband and family were due to stay with us for New Year, but on Boxing Day, her husband was rushed into hospital screaming in agony and has been diagnosed with kidney stones. Apparently it took 3 shots of morphine to control the pain [img]frown.gif[/img] He's also got a suspected stomach ulcer so that's not good news. My sister has also found a lump in her right breast and went to hospital for tests and a mammogram. They came to the conclusion that they didn't know what it is [img]confused.gif[/img] Blah! Bloody NHS [img]mad.gif[/img] Apparently it hurts and is bigger than the size of a pea so it's not nothing. I hope they are going to do some further tests like a biopsy or something cos it's a bit worrying atm.

That's great news about Laura. I'm really pleased for her (and for you too [img]smile.gif[/img] ).
Sorry to hear about your bro-in-law though. My Mum suffers from kidney stones so I'm well versed in how painful they can be. She's often in extreme agony with them and she reckons that the pain from them is worse than the pain of childbirth! [img]eek.gif[/img]
As for your sister's lump, the only positive thing I can say atm is that the lumps that hurt are rarely harmful, or so I've been informed. I hope that's true in her case.

As regards my sister, that's what I'm hoping too, because one of my mum's friends had breast cancer but she didn't have any pain before she was diagnosed with it, so fingers crossed http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smilies...ossfingers.gif

Congratulations to Laura!
Hope your brother-in-law is feeling better soon Janie and that your sister has further tests which will bring peace of mind. I've heard similar to Terry, my sister-in-law's lump was very small and did not hurt.
All a bit down here too, just found out today that Kristy's friend's mum passed away on New Years Eve from Hodgkins disease, she had been ill since middle of last year.

Laurie, she ultimately wants to be a counsellor but she needs to do a social work degree first before she can specialise and do a diploma in counselling.
