I just think Romero's Dead films are just so utterly mindblowing and entertaining.

you got it! JUST saw it again last night with the girlfriend. fuckin' sweet flick. gotta love the extras on that DVD! even though the original it better, the new dawn of the dead was pretty damn good, i though. Oooo! 28 Days Later is for SURE a favorite, as well. that's more of a film than a movie...it was so well done.
The Exorcist (I know it doesn't do much for most people nowadays, but I saw this when I was 10 or 11 when kids were still shocked by things they saw in the movies [img]wink.gif[/img] )
TCM (for the mallet scene alone [img]eek.gif[/img] )
War of the Gargantuas (seeing someone being eaten and spit out was frightening)

I have a lot of respect for Wes Craven
he reinvented Horror flicks with Freddy. What can be more frightening than a slasher killing in dreams since when you're younger you're already scared to go to bed after seeing an horror flick
And as much as I disliked Scream 2 and 3, SCREAM was a hell of a movie

That's a tough one..I probably would have to go back a ways..Hmm..Ah.
1. "Psycho"
A Hitchcock masterpiece of Horror. I find the subtle criminally insane far more frightening than most of the over the top gore type stuff.
Less is more. The black and white film didn't hurt either.
2. "The Omen" the only "devil/possesion" type film to ever make me really uncomfortable.
3. "Night of the Hunter"
Again, I saw this as a kid and Bob Mitchum was brilliant as a murdering preacher after a couple of kids. "Children???!" [img]eek.gif[/img]
Runner up.."Night of the Living Dead" the original B&W really worked in this rather low budget thriller about the dead come back to life.
Damned creepy film.

I first saw this movie when I was 8, my Aunt & Uncle took me to see it. It was a 9:00PM showing in a run down section of NYC. To this day, I still have nightmares about this movie. Pretty much all of them are the same. I'm doing pretty good against those damn flesh eaters, but soon, more and more show up. Eventually I make it to a house, still kicking ass, but then, well, there is just too many of them.

Yes, I liked Cabin Fever, and I probably also like 100s of other films that would make you cringe. There aren't too many modern horror films I care for, but Cabin Fever had a nice late 70's, early 80's feel to it.Quote:

I liked Cabin Fever for the most part aside from 2 scenes.
The mood killing ending AND the whole scene of when Winston comes to the cabin and talks about partying for about 5 minutes too long. Other than that the movie was pretty scary in a sense that if you put yourself in that situation your totally screwed and its terrifyiing because you cant fight back. Thats what people need to do when wattching a horror movie. Put themselves in the situation on screen.

I was debating putting "May" on my list, TCM, but I didn't want anyone to think I watched anything made in the last 20 years or so. [img]wink.gif[/img]
My favorite genre is horror, so I've seen a few as well. If you read my Ardeth Bey review, you'll now my current favorite cable station is Monsters HD, and I can jump in and out to watch a few minutes of just about any horror flick, no matter how bad. That's one of the beauties of the genre.
But to get on my list of actually good flicks, it has to at least make sense [img]wink.gif[/img] I reviewed Cabin Fever back a ways...

Recent horror flicks that I thought worked well - Final Destination, Dawn of the Dead remake, The Ring, The Eye...I have high hopes for The Grudge. Most of these don't break ground like the classics of course, but they still know how to add the chills.
Recent flicks I thought were terribly overhyped...hmmm - the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Session 9, which I heard one guy do nothing but rave about, and then thought it was painfully obvious and simple.

I liked Cabin Fever... I even got the DVD!
I have no problem with people not liking the same films I do, if I did, I would be in big trouble mentally. There are a lot of movies that people go crazy for that I can't stand, Matrixs, Shreks, anything with Vin Diesal, lol, etc. But if they like that stuff, that is their deal, no sweat off my back.
How can one define a film genre ?
Look at Alien....It is a horror film, but also a Sci-fi film, and there is also terror and suspense.
