GROOVE JUICE

Does anyone here use it? I just picked some up upon recommendation for a great cymbal cleaner but wanted to get some feedback before I put it on all my brilliant finish cymbals!

I've used it before. I don't bother cleaning my cymbals anymore though. Dirt = Good tone! [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Anyhow, it does a good job cleaning them up. It can wipe off your logos if you leave it on to long. In fact, I'd try not to get any on the logo if it's important to you to keep it intact.

CL, I was using it exclusively for my brilliant finish K Zildjians. I'm working with a very energetic frontman presently who likes to choke my cymbals regularly so I got tired of cleaning them every week! It works pretty well and is the least labor intensive way I've found to clean cymbals. It WILL take your logos off as mentioned earlier. Also, I have an 8" Zildjian splash with the regular finish and I noticed after a few applications it seemed to remove the protective coating. I haven't had any abnormal reactions with the brilliant K's though. Those cymbals are circa 1987 and when I clean them, people can't believe they are almost 20 years old!

I think I heard somewhere that it's not to be used with Paiste cymbals. Check out cymbalholic.com for more info.

The directions say to rinse with "clean water" and then towell dry... so am I giving my cymbals a bath now!? I've never put water on my cymbals... is this really how it's done!?

Funny enough it also says "will not harm logos".

Sweetrock, I don't think Zildjian's of any model have any protective coatings. I think you're thinking of Paistes which do.

Yup, that's how it is done. I remember I was real nervous about cleaning my cymbals with water. I use a soft sponge and gently rub the cleaning compound onto the cymbal. If they have tonal grooves, I follow the grooves. If they are hand hammered, I use small circular motions. I actually clean them outside with a hose and blast the cleaner off with a high pressure nozzle. Then I towel them dry. The final step is a good rub down with a 100% cotton diaper. I can do my 20" K Custom Ride in about 5 minutes. That is a far cry from when I used the Zildjian cymbal cleaner. That stuff works real well, but requires much time and elbow grease.

Vdrummer, after I noticed the whitish flaking on that splash, I contacted Zildjian. They told me that they use a protective coating. I don't think it is as extensive as Paiste's. Just a little something they put on the surface to repel fingerprints when the cymbals are new (like that would really work!).

I don't use this anymore...didn't really clean deeply...does give a nice gloss over the deep dirt. I also felt the same way with the H20 use first time.

Well I cleaned around 10 cymbals and it seems to have a nice effect on them... relatively easy to use too, I just don't like the "rinse" step... kind of annoying.

Has anyone else noticed strange speckles on the cymbals from the areas that were not sprayed directly??

I heard groove juice was more for older, non-brilliant type cymbals, and if you put it on new stuff it tended to ruin it. I would avoid buying any sort of conventional cymbal cleaner or trying to clean them with household cleaners - clean, warm water and washing-up liquid is all you really need, just like you pots and pans.

i have this sabian cleaner that i got when i bought a couple of sabian cymbals and i must say...after trying it a couple of times..i've given up on cleaning cymbals...yeah the dirt transfers onto my drum heads...but hell its just a hasle just to make things look good plus they just get dirty again cos theres dirt on my drum heads...and i hate the cymbal logo coming off :| so no more cleaning cymbals for me
