Are there any 80's club rats here?

I know a bunch of you are into the 80's stuff, but I am looking for others who were actually in the "underground" clubs circa 1985-1987. I am making a comp disc (my first one!!!) of the songs from that time period that when I hear them I am whisked away to Spinners, McGreevys, and Medusa's all over again.

So far I have:

I know I am forgetting some, and that is why I am posting this. Drop some names, I will grab them and see if they are "triggers".

Also, as you can see by my inclusion of The Smiths and The Cure, I am not just grabbing bands I like, as both of those bands I hate for the most part. But those two songs do something to me, especially since if you hung out in the clubs during the years I mentioned, those songs were driven into your head! I was in the clubs for ATLEAST three nights a week during those years, so the memories are vast.

But no power on earth or in heaven can make me ever in a million years place Erasure or Yaz on this disc, so don't even bother mentioning them!!! LOL!!!

<font size="3" face="Arial">Fields never got any real play in US clubs until "Preacher Man" came out. Not sure if I will add them though, as they are a favorite of mine so they don't take me back anywhere since I still listen to them all the time.

Echo I will check out. I had a feeling I would have to go to them sopner or later.

GLJ is the same story as Fields as far as still listening to them.

I had The Alarm "Marching On" in there, as I prefer that song to "68", but I really wanted the EP version that is MUCH more upbeat and intense. But I can't find it.

I will probably grab some Furs, but off of the "Mirrors" album, what ever the title is. It was one of my sisters faves, so that will probably get inclusion.

Cool ideas though, and I will check some of those out.

She Sells Sanctuary...or...Rain

As I said though, it is mainly club stuff I am after. "She Sells" is an amazing song, only passed by maybe "Rain" (great calls there Raggz m'boy), but they never really covered the clubs too much, and the songs were played in my room more than the club.

On a funny note, I DO have video of me and my buddies doing an "airband" cover of "She Sells"! LOL!!! Kind of embarrassing considering how old we were, but still pretty funny. We made movies back then. They were silly horror films. And we had the camera set up after filming one of our epics, and we just let the tape roll. Ha. Idiots we were. Luckily I ended up with all of the tapes so nobody could ever blackmail me! [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

I don't know if I can do Dead Or Alive. There was this one idiot back in the day, name escapes me, and he was loved by EVERYBODY in the New Wave circles. He was a total prick though, and all the "Punks" hated his guts. He was very fem, but was so just to snag everybodies girlfriends from them. The guy could dance though, I'll give him that. But he always drew a question mark on his left cheek, and his favorite band was Dead Or Alive, and to this day I think of that shithead whenever I think of that band or hear them. I guess that actually means I should put them on the disc. Hmmmm, but I just can't. It isn't a good memory.

I'll send it along with GTR Dan. BTW, the main hold up on the GTR was I had to find the tape again. I found it, but think I misplaced it again. I am pretty sure I know right where it is though.

Breakfast Club-Right On Track

Looking for songs that were in the "New Wave" clubs in the mid-80's. Not "Pop" type of things, but more underground. Basically, the stuff that would later be lapped up by the people slopping on white face paint and calling themselves "Gothic". The stuff that resides between Punk and Dance music. Depeche Mode being one of the bands, but actually being a little too popular. Think Depeche Mode, but no later than "People Are People".

In fact, "Everything Counts" just might be finding a place on here.

I will check out that Breakfast Club though, and see if it rings bells. The name is foriegn to me though.

you can always throw some Sigue Sigue Sputnik on there. 21st Century Boy, Atari Baby (an awesome song), Dancerma.

Ya know, I grabbed that SSS album "Flaunt It" recently. Ummm, I'll pass from placing that within earshot ever again, thank you. I can't believe people listen to that thing still. I mean, those effects that they use on it where out of date the second those guys walked out of the studio! Hell, the song at the end of REVENGE OF THE NERDS that the nerds play to win the competition is dating better than SSS!!! LOL!!!

I could tell you're not looking for pop, so Breakfast Club-right on track would NOT be a good choice for your comp. It was on the pop charts. pretty big hit if i recall. you'd recognize it i'm sure.

lets not forget that "Frankie go's to Hollywood "was EVERYWHERE in EVERY type of club. This is not however an endorsement,just an obserance,or a memory,faint as it may be.

make that observance...the keyboard I'm using sticks massively.

SSS was pretty good but then all the sounds got to me after a while. Kinda like Steve Stevens and that dreadful laser-gun sound he used in just about everything.

O.K., "Send Me An Angel" and "Ghost In You" have been added. Lord I have forgotten how great of a song "Ghost" is!!! I need this whole album again!

I have the Afrika Bambata though, that was also known as Time Zone.

Danielle Dax...sigh...I met her once. I was smitten, and everybody else with me was convinced that she was also. She was signing autographs. I went to get an autograph signed, got up to her table, and I was blown away by how amazing she looked. I kind of stumbled over my words, and she did the same. As I left she just stared at me. Then I decided to go back, and the whole thing replayed, we both stumbled on words, and as I left again, I guess she actually stood up to watch where I was going.

My ride that night was a real bitch and decided she wanted to leave, and wasn't sticking around for me. I was in the middle of Chicago with no other way home, and no money, so I left. But there was something there, without a doubt. One of the things I had her sign was the inside of my Beatles "Revolver" tape. A year later she released a new album, "Blast the Human Flower", and on it was a cover of The Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows", which is on the "Revolver" album. Someplace in my mind I always let myself believe that was a message to me. LOL!!!
