Yahoo Conference Glitz-up - Sat 27th?

Raggz, Andii and myself have just had a trial
run with multi-chat conferencing with Messenger
v6, and, aside from some - eh - radio station
shenanigans, and Andii's bewilderment with it
all (bless him), every thing was very smooth.

All those conditional websites we tried doing
this with before don't even come close.

I imagine a multi-webcam conference would
judder around until we all grew bored - and
ditto all mics and speakers too, come to that,
but everything else - i.e. texting is fine.

Personally, I'm lobbying for '80s Flashback'
has the collective radio station (easily
findable, I hope, once v6 is installed)
whilst chatting.

See the little smiley with the PLUS SIGN...hit there then add...you must know the name(sign on name)..then enter and hit next next....dont' bother fill in whole names...just hit next till finish can be pushed.

Carl - I think the 'adding' business will more
or less work itself out. Stacey for example I've
'accepted' but I don't see his name on my Friends
list yet - but as long as I'm on his, then all he has
to do is IM me, and he'll be automatically added -

Al is "Alalvin". We just need to get everybody posting their names so that we can do that whole "join" thing. I accepted yours Darren, but have not gotten you onto mine, so I am pretty sure that it is like you say, once you sign on and drop me a line while I am there, then all is cool.

The conference thing worked last night for Raggz, Al, and myself, but I have no idea what I did to make it work. I guess it will just take a few times to actually get the hang of it all.

It can't be too difficult to work out. Me, Raggz and Lynsey used to manage it on the older version.

Those that can't see me on their lists, you have got your offline contacts visible on the list, haven't you?

If not, click 'View' at the top of your list, then 'Show', then 'Offline Contacts in Messenger List'.

The new version seems to work better than some of the old ones, it's still got a few glitches, but it is free after all. I still can't get the radio stations to work, but my connection is useless.

Too bad something such as this wasn't around several years ago!

So if we say GMT 11pm - 3am, thats:

California 3pm - 7pm
New York 6pm - 10pm

Is this going to be a conference call-type chat, or just seeing who you add to your list?

Anyway, I don't know that many Yahoo nyms from here. There are a few I chatted with here and there, so I've got them.

What 'conf.' amounts to is, everybody chatting
within a single box - a chatroom. Because it's
done via Yahoo Messenger, we have options
available to us that are not normally present
when this sort of thing is done via traditional
means (i.e. a commercial webpage-type place);
such as, the ability to turn the entire chat to
microphone-only chat; or, if connections were
up to it (which they won't be), a collectively
webcam chat.

For now, we're simply all making sure we have each
others Yahoo IDs logged in, and then, someone -
anyone - simply 'invites' all to a conference,
and we all appear in the same window.

Pros: MSG v6.0 has an intergrated radio stations
set-up, which means, if we're all logged into
the same station, then whatever's playing affords
something else to chat about.

Cons: The radio station tends to lag dail-up
users (ask Raggz).

If somebody logs out of the conf., or simply finds
their connection to Yahoo cut, we effectively
have to start again, and begin a new conf.

For now, Jay, simply 'add' my name ('Search via
email' option - [email protected]) and things,
as far as you are concerned, should take care of
things themselves.

I don't think we need to start a new conf. if someone is disconnected. Unless they've changed something, you can just invite people back to the chat.

It's - roughly - 11pm - 3am (for us).

Jay - You need to goto www.yahoo.com and download
the 'all new' Messenger v6.0, set up your profile/
avatar graphic (should you be so inclined), and
start 'adding' our nyms to your 'Friends' list.

A new feature of Yahoo Messenger, is that, you
can individually chose who you appear online to
(right-click and select 'Online presence') as
opposed to a blanket 'I'm busy' message.
