Jackson Racing should pay us not only for falling into their trap, and getting screwed by their false advertisment, but they should pay people like Holden, zip, lundgren, etc... for their help with others installs. It seems like we do alot more help here then Jackson does on its tech line! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Just a thought http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Rboosted717,
No company is perfict and i'm sure if it was up to Jackson they would help you as much as they can but you have to remember that JR is a very large company and not every emplyee can be watched over so if you talk to someone there and the are hesitent to help you its not the companys fault. If you can't find help staight from Jackson call one of there authorized dealers like myself I would be glad to help you in anyway possible even if you didn't purchase the kit from me

LOL--here come the proof of bad JR service!
Maintance free my ass! 215whp on a stock type R thats JRSC'd with intake! LOL good laugh. How about 185whp if your lucky! Or better yet how about gaining whp instead of loosing whp from it! J/K http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

JR does not like the fact that this board exists. It alerts many people that they should demand more from JR.
The one time I mentioned internet resources to JR they basically said, "I don't give a shit what you read on the internet. You'll believe what WE say.". Talk about a turn off.
On the other hand, I never believed the JR propaganda. Luckily I got to read about 6 months of posts on this board before going for it.

I have to say that JR isn't the only company that puts out false dyno numbers, They said JRSC ITR 209Whp, Stock, that means they can do anything to that kit they want, aslong as its not considered a MOD, I.E Intake,HEADER,Exhaust.. You have to remember like me for example Stock JRSC 1st DYNO 187WHP, 110+ degrees, running 4psi of boost. 4psi, because of heat or the belts needed to be broken in, I have no idea really, but i think that has alot to do with their dynos,
I don't want to start a fight here, but if you want dyno numbers of what ALL companies say then go back to sleep and dream, I knew before even purchasing the charger that the ITR's Head doesn't like it, and that i wasn't going to pull the numbers that JR intended it would, until now that i have a few mods. my first dyno like i said was 187, now with msd6al, JR intake, PMS with software i have pulled an amazing 212WHP with 5psi, and 65degrees cool weather, I'm happy with everything I buy so far except that i wish i would have go the msd6al before with the pms instead of no pms, and the msd6btm.

I wonder if JR is using the proper "SAE" correction factors on the dyno or going with the "Standard" correction factors that most of the aftermarket industry uses because of the higher net HP numbers it ("Standard" correction) produces?
Greg
FYI: DIN correction factors result in even higher results than "Standard".

Though JR as a company has pretty much left us out to fend for ourselves, Moss Motorsports is the only place that has ever helped me. They helped in a very timely manner and Kevin and Shawn have been extremely helpful, no that didn't fly out like some Top Fuel programers but they helped. I am satified with my setup and what JR sent me and everytime I read about some turbo guy or nitrous guy bitch about their motor, or really bad performance, or even better yet No customer service at all it makes me happy. I have just short of 20k of good and relatively trouble free (Mooss motorsports took care of the problems) miles. I just hate to see peeps totally bash JR, even though I hear they have some country assed mechanics in CA that don't know WTF they are doing http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah I met Shawn awhile back. He seemed ok. I kinda disagreed about his rugnes about Endyn, however they are its competitor. After acouple of bad E-mails from him, he later appoligized for his rude conduct, by telling that he was jut frustrated, etc... Yeah OK! I'm sorry but at my company, and mst others, if you treat a customer like that, and talk crap to him, you would be fired! Thats cool about what you said, however here's an example.
My friend with the 97 JRSC ITR thats gets it worked on by the same guy as me, had his JRSC done at Jackson. At the time, he was one of the very first JRSC type R's. In fact he even had them install the H2O system, etc... Anyways, when they dyno'd his car, it was said to produce around 210+whp. So he was happy, and drove home (6+hrs). Anyways, down the line, he felt his car was running bad, so he went and had it dyno'd at The Program (Sear Point Raceway). They showed him that he was only hitting in the 180's! So felt bad, and took it back to JR. Well, JR did there magical work again, and got his car to hit around 209whp. So then he brought it back up here, and dyno'd it at my place. Well, he hit 184whp or so! WTF! So after many hrs of tuning, he got hit car to hit in the 190's with tons of tuning, mods, and work. At the moment he's running a 8psi pulley, with lower compression. He hits around 215whp. Yet for some reason his boost gauge is reading only 6psi! All JR will say, it thats its because of the type R's strange cams. Um, ok....
Anyways, I'm sure JR has helped a few people, and have been able to show some killer work, and stuff. However, it appears that the majority (95%) of the people get screwed by them. I'm just glad we have people like you guys, that have battled it all, and are able to help us where JR lacks.

While I'm not impressed by JR as a company in general, and I've not particularly enjoyed most of my interactions with them.... I have to say that they've been very good to me about replacing belts, bolts, and pulleys that have needed it. It took a little coaxing, and I was admittedly a bit irked that those parts needed replacing to begin with, but hey- they were shipped promptly, free of charge, and fixed the problem. Goes with the territory.
As for you type-r people...and I know I'm going to get it for this...you started with the wrong platform if you wanted to build a car and tune it. The car I drive is called a GSR, that's what it was when I bought it. It's a much different beast now than it was then. If I were a manufacturer it would definitely be called something different than a GSR and would sit elsewhere in the product lineup. When I go down my list of mods at this point, the stock GSR that I drove off the lot several years ago is little more than a memory now. It was a good platform from which to build the car that I wanted. I increasingly hear more and more people bitching about their type-r's. It's highly tuned to be what it is, not anything different. *shrug* I knew I was going to SC the GSR when I bought it. I new I wanted to build it how I want it, tune it how I want, etc. Part of the reason I bought a GSR instead of an R. I ate a blown R on the highway the other day and actually wound up having coffee with the guy. He lamented that he wished he had just bought a GSR to begin with. I laughed and reminded him that at least he owns a collectors car. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
I would love to have an R, but I'd leave it stock, put a cover on it, and take satisfaction in knowing that I own once, while I drive the hell out the SC-GSR.
Flame on! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

I have to agree with Javin here...
NO company will ever be perfect. Everyone has their good days and bad days: I myself have treated customers unfairly on occasion because I was human a took my bad day out on them.
Here is my two cents on this:
I bought a JR Supercharger just before NOPI '98. I began installing it just TWO days before the NOPI show began. I had not even test-driven the car before the first wave of cars showed up in my parking lot for the Super Street tour... I just jumped in the car and drove toward Atlanta. I was having horrible detonation problems... so bad that I could not stay in the throttle. At the first fuel stop, I scrambled around for a timing light to help tune some of the pinging out. It was better, but far from perfect. So, when I got to NOPI, the first thing I wanted to do was voice my frustrations to a JR rep... so I meet this guy named Oscar. After telling him what my problems were, he simply asks "Where is your car" ??? I said, "Why" ??? He says: "Cause I want to work on it" !!! So, I take him out to my car and he does some tuning... turns out that the damn POS Gude ECU is the root of the problem and after switching it out, the car runs just fine.
The bottom line here is that Oscar Jackson worked on MY car... he rolled up his sleeves and got dirty for me... so that I would be happy with his product !!!
This meant so much to me that I immediately became a dealer. I like companies that take good care of me... because then I can take better care of MY customers... people like you guys here.
Lastly, when comparing dyno numbers... don't forget that Oscar is a racing legend... a champion in this field. He has probably forgotten more tuning tricks than most of us here know. He is capable of getting every last drop of HP out of a car sitting on his dyno. I have NO doubt that if you could take your own car out to his dyno, and have Oscar tune it, you would probably be within a HP or two from the numbers that he posts on the website.
Consider this: Acura Integra GSR's vary in their 1/4 mile times by as much as 3/10's of a second. This means that the HP outputs of these cars varies slightly. Does this mean that Honda/Acura is full of sh1t when they claim that the GSR has 170 HP ??? Certainly not... however, motors will vary about 3% (+/-) in a production vehicle... and so will a production Supercharger kit.

Yep, all of the reasons I'd love to have one. And all the reasons I would probably leave it un-modded. Honda did such a nice job to begin with.

I am one of those persons that has had no problems with JR, well except those nipples for the vacuum hoses they left out!
I talked to Shawn and only Shawn, by the way, he hasnt been around for almost a year on this board, no MR.DETAIL! He is a nice guy and got everything done when and how I wanted it. I took my time installing my charger and did a good job, and have had ZERO problems with my car, and I run the piss out of it and have run it hard as crap at the drag strip. I have gone through a clutch and syncro set already, but it was worth it!
My car is reliable and fast, and that is the reason I got the charger. In my opinion, the JR Charger is only a good investment for B18C1 engines(GS-R engines for you amateurs)....The Type R shouldnt be messed with, it is perfect the way it is, don't buy one if you want a faster car that is awesome, buy a used SupraTT....

Just a quick question, has anyone with a R simple lowered the compression and then tuned from there? I have never asked that but I wonder how it would react to it since basically the chassis is what differentiates the R from the GSR. I love the car but I/H/E cams (Toda shafts and gears) is as far as I would go. What a ride those things are http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

-
Actually in my last couple of posts I mentioned the 97 ITR JRSC'd. They lowered his compression with a new head gasket, and up'd the pulley to 8psi. He's currently hitting around 215-220whp. Also, for some reason his boost gauge will only read 6psi! Hmmm, all Jackson could say was, "its your cams"
SO maybe down the line I will also try to lower the compression, and maybe swap in a GSR intake cam. The gasket I think costs around $550, and the GSR intake cam is around $60new. Hmmm, maybe I'll try that next...

Jackson really impressed me at Nopi. I went into the booth and started talking to Shawn and didn't even know it. He was super cool to me. After I found who he was I told him I was one of Jim's customers. I ended up spending he rest of the weekend talking to him. I told him I bought a blower from Jim back in Mar and still hadn't put it ont he car. I told him Jim would not put it on until he had performed an exercism (sp?) on my car. When I did my swap I didn't listen to Jim and I killed my wiring. I told Shawn I had a permanent check engine light and that I butchered the wiring soooooo bad I could not pull codes. When I went to leave Sunday I saw the JR trailer and all the guys standing around so I went over to show Shwan how bad I killed it. After a couple of minutes of talking to the guys and getting ragged cause of the wiring job Oscasr walked over. I told him I had a blower but couldn't put it on until I had the wiring fixed. I told him i couldn't pull codes and he said let me try. He walked off and came back a few minutes later with a scan tool. He climbed in my car pluged it in and got nothing. Thats how bad the wiring is.
I thought that it was really cool of Oscar to take time out to try to fix my car. Here is a guy who, I'm sure has much better things to do, is messing with my car. I don't even have his product on my car and he was willing to help. That to me was above and beyond the call of duty.
-
Ok so it seems in order to get good JR help, I have to talk to JR, and Oscar in front of major clients at major events. Hmm, is it worth it to bring my car all the way across the US to make a scene at the JR booth? Or maybe I will talk to Dynospot, and see if we could bring around 10+ cars that are JRSC'd, and show them dyno plots proving that the JRSC will hit no where close to their reported numbers. Actually I think I will just call JR again this week, and talk to Shawn about my car. Lets see what he has to say. Last time they were able to blame it on many things. However this time, my car is perfectly tuned, and I have almost every nessary mod. I wonder why I can't even hit close to stock JR reported numbers. Hmmm http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

I will not personally flame you. When I bought the R I planed on keeping it semi-stock. After a year of driving it with an intake, I decided to add a lighter flywheel, and exhaust. After a few more months I heard of JR making a JRSC that will give the type R 209whp. (Now they say 215whp, but whatever...) Anyway the JRSC just bolts on, and can be removable down the line, and requires no other mods. WELL, to my surprise, I was no where close to the 209whp mark. So then I decided I only live once, and I figure as long as I stay away from major internal work, I will be fine.
I do agree that the GSR makes a better FI car, however one advantage that us R owners have is our other great features. (And no I'm not talking about our interior, or red valve cover, etc... I'm talking about the whole design of the car. Our whole car has been welded differently, they added more structural reinforcements, better suspension parts, better engine work (minus our high compression), and other great features... I got the R because it seem alot higher in their game. I liked the fact so much time, and detail was spent on making this car.

Along the lines of what Mr.rogers asked- Has anyone tried the GSR cams in a Type-R motor with the JRSC? Or going with some GSR pistons with the Type-R cams left in? I thought I had read here where some one used the Type-R cams in a GSR motor with the JRSC and saw appreciable gains, would that not work in reverse?
Also since TOO's most talked about system is on a Type-R has anyone asked him for tuning suggestions(other than for modding the SC itself)?
