Can you guys make a list of upgrades you'd recommend for a 99 GSR w/ JRSC and AEM CAI? I've heard that the fuel system is important to consider, but I'm not sure where to start. Also, any recommendations for exhaust/header systems? JR has a "twin flow" exhaust on their website, but I hear it's not available until next spring. I'm looking for a quiet, subtle exhaust that will increase power.
Thanks for the help!

I'd start with a fuel pump if you don't already have it and an Apex VAFC and either the JR BTC or MSD BTM. For a header I would go with a 4-1 like the kooks/AXZ, JDM Type-R or Kamikaze. For exhaust, the greddy power extreme is pretty nice although I think that custom woudl be the cheapest.

Please forgive my ignorance:
What are:
VAFC
BTC
BTM
?
Thanks!

a VAFC= Apexi new Vtec/Air Fuel Controller It will adjust the fuel & air, while also giving great controll over the VTEC kick in point.
BTM= Boost Timing Master You will probally hear about the BTM when bringing up MSD 6BTM. Its an ignition system, with a boost timing controll device built in. It allows you to adjust the timing thats dependant on boost.
BTC=Is JR's new device thats a Boost timing controll. It will adjust the fuel/timing map on the car in the programmed rpm spots. The BTC is similar to the BTM however the BTC is built for the crappy Honda timing/fuel/air, etc... curves. Its highly recommended over the BTM if you have a Honda.
I hope that helps decode our criptic language. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

the btc is better than the btm which is why i sold mine.. the btm looks at timing 4 times per revolution, and the btc looks at it 40 times per Revolution

If you are sticking with 6psi you do not want the Kamikazi header, you will loose more than you gain.
For 6psi go with the 4-2-1 DC sports header, and get it tuned, with cam gears on the dyno. While you are there have the tune the fuel.

hehe, DSR installed my SC. =]

The VAFC is much more usefull on ITR's than it is on GSR's. GSR's don't have the super-rich at high rpm problem.

Corpse: Were you at DSR today and dropped off your blue teg to get a belt adjustment? I wish I would have known, cuz I would of said hi. I was in the office when you dropped it off. Oh well, maybe next time. Nice car by the way. I love the sleeper/stock look! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Anyway, yeah the Kamakaze does gain across the band in some cases. In Neuxome's case, he did gain across the band. Check his old posts, and you will find his plot. Since Lawerence found the piece I need for the header, I hope to put it on this Fri, and dyno. I should get a nice gain I hope. However my computer is working against me right now.

Yeah, that was me.
Car is awesome now! No more belt squeak. Woohoo! I am so happy.
The guy with me has a Garrett-chipped S4 - makes about 320hp - I can pull on him til about the end of 3rd gear... only from a rolling start, though - damn quattro hooks up fast!
What were you driving?
-
duh... guess I should read the post wholly before replying..
Thanks for the compliment! I totally wanted a sleeper car.. The ground controls and shocks lower the car quite a bit (even though the front is at the highest setting!) but otherwise it's completely stock looking - I even have a cracked taillight and some scratches (sigh) that I need to get fixed.
Is your ITR white with a JDM front end?
-
At the time I had my truck, since it looked like it was rain this morning. However I have the JRSC type R that DSR has been working on forever.
But yeah the audi's are quick once they get the GIAC in. I've raced acouple, however they do pull hard in 5th gear on me. 3-4 is my cars sweet spot.
If you want to meet, I should be at DSR on Fri doing my header work, and some other stuff to my R.
Anyway, do you plan on doing more mods. to your Teg anytime soon?

Ooops, just saw your new post. No the R with the JDM front isn't mine. Thats the Dynospot Racing N/A type R. Watch out, its a killer! Here's a link to my car: http://honda-tech.com/cgi-bin/car.cgi?car=10&cmd=view

Nice car!! I've seen that on the dyno. =]
What time will you be there on Fri? I can stop by.
Mods - dunno. I'd like to get an exhaust/header, but maybe the fuel system is the best place to start. Also, I'm thinking about a boost gauge for the A pillar.. Dunno about that one yet.
I suppose I should get my bodywork fixed before I go and make the car faster. =]
-
Ah, one more question...
I asked Dick and Lawrence about putting an ITR cam in, but I think they both said there's no point with the JRSC... Thoughts?
-
You've seen my car on the dyno? When? Anyway, I plan on being at DSR around 10:00am till whenever. It seems everytime I'm there, I end up getting suck into a all day hang out. Anyway, I should be there from 10-whenever-late. I have to get them to install my header, then drive down the street with no exhaust to the muffler shop, then drop my car off to get the test pipe made, then hand out at DSR till its finished. So it will probally take along time. So yeah, just stop by. I would mind chatting to someone about JRSC mods.
Re: your mods, if you plan on doing the amazing boost upgrade that works killer on the GSR's, then aim for the Kamakaze header, and almost any exhaust. try to aim for 2.5=3" piping. With a test pipe or good cat. As for fuel mods, I think you should try at Cartech FPR, with maybe a new Walbro pump or Bosch. Injectors I'm not sure of for your setup your aming for. A VAFC would also be a nice mod to smooth out your whp curve. Anyway, I'm sure the GSR guys can help you with the mods you need. (I'm more of a JRSC type R guy) Oh yeah, also DSR is making a computer for our cars. Hopefully once I get some testing done on it, they will make it a sure thing. So kinda keep that in mind before going crazy on mods. I think the best thing to do now is, body work if ou want, then do a full exhaust system, then work from there.

Oh yeah, dont put a ITR intake cam in. Heck I want a GSR intake cam! With a FI teg, there is really no point.
-
VTECPWR: You're mistaken. At 6psi with a 4-1 kami I gained about 4hp (6hp in some places)all the way across the band, and a similar amount of torque as well. Verified by DynoSpot Racing on their dyno.
-
Ok, I am surprised that you an overall gain with the Kami, running only 6psi. How much did you loose on the low end. I did not mean that you would see no gains, just that when comparing the gain vs. the loss the Kami is not worth it. What other mods do you have? I would like to see a copy of your dyno, or if you do not have that then maybe the gain/los every 500 rpm.
I am not doubting you. I am just surprised, and interested in seeing your results.
