After installing my injectors, B&M CommandFlo, GS-342 fuel pump, cap and rotor, changing the oil in my JRSC last weekend it ran like crap (per my last thread), it would hardly idle. I couldn't figure it out and rented a car for a week. After taking everything off (JRSC and intake manifold included) and not seeing anything out of the ordinary I put it all back in and it ran fine for a day. Then going down the street this Saturday it just quit. There was some smell which I thought was coming from my brakes from not having driven the car in a week but it could have been electrical. I thought I had left a wire too close to the pully/belt or header/exhaust and it melted but after towing it home and inspecting all the wires I could find nothing wrong. I then thought it was the ignitor so I started the tests in the Helms for the ignitor and coil. It appeared as if the ignitor was bad although there is no real test for the ignitor, just that there is power to it. Anyway, I got another ignitor and put it in and......nothing! I ripped the JRSC and manifold out AGAIN thinking that I had pinched the wiring harness that runs along the back of the block in-between the JRSC but found nothing out of the ordinary. I disconnected all the wires going to the distributor from it and the ECU and checked than none of them were shorted out and everything checked out, except the main power to the coil showed that it was grounded but I think that was from the ignition switch because when I unplugged it from the driver's shock tower harness, the test light went out. That wire also gets 12V when the ignition is on.
I have been down for a week now and have had to rent a car and am having to rent it for another week now! I am starting to think that the replacement ignitor I got is bad too because everything else checks out, but no spark, I pull a plug wire and connect it to a spare spark plug and crank the motor and no spark.
Does ANYONE have ANY advice? I am totally stumped!!!

I'm sorry Bill. I just spoke to you yesterday before the track.. My car ran great..but today, it's DEAD too!!! I didn't even push it at the track. I thought I heard detonation, so I backed off immediately. After driving home, we burn a new chip, put it in...the car threw a light and went into limp mode shortly afterward. Put the old chip back in, still the same problem...Code shown what seemed to be a code 3 which is faulty map sensor? I had to borrow a car to work today http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

Update:
It turns out the ignitor I got from Napa was for a B18B. The dealer verfied that there are different part #'s even though it looks the exact same and fits fine. I don't know how the internals differ but we'll see if that does the trick. If not, it's getting towed to the dealer cuz I'm fresh out of ideas. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
The B18B ignitor was $70 and the GSR ignitor is $170! :O

You should be able to use an igniter from any vtec honda. I've used an sohc igniter on an gsr before and no problems since. Try a junk yard or advanced auto. it'll be cheaper.

That's not good! Like I said, if this ignitor doesn't fix my no spark problem I am stuck.
Why are there different part #'s and a $100 difference then?

I couldnt' tell ya. I just know that I have used one out of an older vtec civic on a friend of mine's gsr. He has had no problems with it. If you have a friend with a sohc moter, try to borrow his for a shot to see. If so then save your self some $$$ and buy one. It's just a suggestion not a complete solution. It's worked for me, why not you.

Well, I got the spendy ignitor and another coil and it is still dead so this morning I had it put on a flatbead and towed to the dealer where Randomwalk hooked me up with a good mechanic. Thanks John!
We'll see what happens now.

No problem Bill. I'm glad you got your car up and running. I'm still waiting for my replacement ecu to come in. This time it'll be anti-static gloves and the whole nine yard http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well, John's (Randomwalk101) hookup paid off big time! I told Randy (the mechanic at Charlie Thomas Acura John suggested) about what had happened and what I had checked and within an hour he was able to determine that my timing belt tensioner had come loose! This caused the exhaust cam to become out of time and since the distributor is driven by this cam, the spark was happening at the totally wrong time. After fixing that there was still no spark which he determined to be the coil, which I had tried replacing the night before but it didn't help since the exhaust cam was 180' off! Once that was fixed, it still ran like crap so at first he thought I had bent some valves when the timing belt went but then realized that I had swapped the TPS and MAP sensor harnesses! After that was done it ran like a charm! How he was able to determine all three of these unrelated problems in such a short period of time I have no idea other than he really knows his stuff!
