I knew it was going up, but was not supposed to say anything prior.
1 of our very own HOD brothers is responsible for the new Dave Weckl site. Props!

Drum tracks through email? Get Dave on your recording? Hey, he's going to put us out of work.
'bout time! For one of the big boyz, he had one of the lamest sites around.
I went to www.daveweckl.com and it looks like the same site he's had...what's been changed?
Drums.
am I the only one who cannot seem to have anything load up on the site?!! I get to hear his tunes, but any of the other pages don't seem to appear!
?? !!!!!!!!!!

its a great looking site but quite confusing to navigate thru at first. and if u have a 56K dial-up (like me) its very slow.
still not loads of actual "content" tho.....only a few photos and videos. looks great tho.
Strange im still getting the old site?
Ive cleared my cookies etc..
Strange..
The link I posted gets me to the new site, but maybe there is a problem with cookies or whatever. Here is a direct URL that I get redirected to:
http://64.246.176.199/wecklHome/weck...w=1280&sh=1024
Yes, it is about time he updated it. There has been a "New Website Coming Soon!!!!" banner there for about the last six months.
I agree about the site itself. It looks cool, but it's confusing to navigate through. Plus it seems like some content is missing (photo albums, mp3 clips, etc.) Some neat info about his home studio there, however.

I agree, that it?s a little bit confusing to navigate at first, but after while it?s getting comfortable.
There seems to be something wrong with the videos in the Performance/Drumming/Multimedia section - the buddy rich clip works, the others don?t.
Nevertheless you?ve done a great job, MA ! I like it !

great site. lotsa pics and videos.
Thanks to all for the feedback.
>>only a few photos and videos.
Site content thus far:
- 184 large jpgs (700 x 424)
- 19 audio clips
- 12 video clips
And plenty of room to add more as they become available.
MethodAir
Yea I can't seem to play the video clips. All that flash stuff makes my head hurt.
New Dave Weckl site is up and running good, thanks to Method Air for the hip design!
Check the news page out.
MethodAir,
Kudos, HOD brutha!!!
You did an amazing job!!!
I guess we all know what your day job is...
LOL

I hope I didn't sound overly critical of the new site. I agree that it's a hip design....certainly not boring and definitely more interesting than the last version.
After a few more visits, though, I still was not able to find too many pics, and I only found about 3 video clips (MD fest 98, "Mesmereyes," and "Got a Match"/Spain). I still find it a little confusing to navigate around and find everything with the dynamic "flash"-style format....just my opinion.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Now that will be cool!!!!Quote:

Uno, actually Method Air has a studio and is a very talented drummer too.
I must say, I didn't notice there were video clips before, I didn't see them typed in red. Nevertheless, very well done MA, awesome job!
Interesting seeing weckl again from the early days, like on the clip from 'the next step'. From the hairdo, to the clothes, to the headshake he does after a fancy fill, he's the definitive Mr. drummer, haha.
What was that zildjian ride he used to use before the sabians? The one on the live performance from clip of 'how to develop technique'? I always thought that sounded better than his evolution ride.
I agree with Rudy - it's hard to beat Weckl's style from the late 80's....the sound, the hair, the music.....even today it doesn't seem outdated when I watch one of the old videos.
I'm 99% sure his ride on the Evolution videos is a 20" K Custom. (I'm planning on a 22" Custom for my next ride...beautiful cymbal!)
The ride on his old videos looks like an Earth ride, but reacts like a much thinner cymbal. It has a very unique sound to it (in a good way!)
EDIT: "...and Lee wins the photo finish for posting this reply!"

I believe that was a 20" K Custom..
My favourite ride of all time!
oo err
that's funny. I hate the K Custom Ride. I have a 20" and it's SO clangy.
different strokes I guess.
Well, I've been looking for that old weckl ride sound for ages and still not sure if I've got it. I've got 4 K rides, an 18 K custom( fine ping to it, not bad), a 20 K custom dry(from years ago, pingy, boring sounding to my ears now, though I used to like it), a 20 K jazz ride( trashy, but was never sure about it), and the latest 20 K custom dry light( love it). I think the dry light is the closest, but, lol, now I'm interested in hearing a 20 K custom up close. All these K's and K customs, and I must have missed the 20 K custom somewhere along the way. Do they still make them? Also, weckl would have had the pick of the best from the factory, so am I likely to get one that sounds as good as his? Also, I've been wondering for ages, is the ride in this jimmy branly clip also a 20 K custom? Because I love that too, the bell is gorgeous, very breathy.

mja61,
When you are on a category like:
Instructional->Products->Video
You can access all the items of this 'Video' category (ie. Back to Basics, How to Practice) in an HTML window by pressing:

Hello Method.
Good job, though i think that if many of us have found the site difficult to navigate, it could be true.
I have discovered almost all the things that the web offers reading this topic and no navigating the weckl site: that means something.
i like much the look (black background and the colors) but i think that, with the same structure but with all the links more "easy to see and navigate" it could be better.
For example: the next step video: I can?t see anything saying that there is a preview or something.
i know that doing a website takes many hours, but the feedback (the positive one) is really good for improving.
thanks Method.
Agreed on the K Custom. I think it's a great rock ride with good definition and a ridiculous bell but it's too heavy to lay into properly.
>>>the next step video: I can?t see anything saying that there is a preview or something.

You got an ecommerce link, and a video link...Same pattern for the other videos.
The site traffic numbers indicate that, for the most part, people are not having problems finding the content. While there's always room to improve, the content framework has been throroughly tested before going live.
Cheers,
MethodAir
when i try and sign up to the news letter, nothing seems to happen???
Yeah, I agree the K Custom is a bit clangy for straight-ahead jazz, but it seems to work well for fusion and "sophisticated" rock. It gives you definition along the lines of Z-Customs, A Ping Rides, etc., but with the dark tone of a K.
I really liked Weckl's K Custom sound with CCEB. I saw Hilary Jones in a clinic a while back, and she had a 22" K Custom that was very "smooth" sounding....worked quite well with that style of music. The bell was clear, but without being overly cutting.
Sorry for the tangent....I know this isn't a cymbal thread!
All I need to do is stretch my 18 K custom into a 20. Maybe I can microwave it to soften it up, then put a rolling pin across it.
>>>when i try and sign up to the news letter, nothing seems to happen???
Thanks for pointing that out, should be working now.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had problems with the new Weckl videos that have been posted up? Quick time won't play them for me, it commits an illegal operation.
Also, does anybody know the Weckl Uk tour venues, all I know is that he's going to Ronnie Scotts and a Birmingham venue. But does anybody know what the Manchester venue is? Thanks
those clips are amazing. check the trading at the end of "tobys blues"!!
weckl's UK tour date details are yet to be announced. all details on his site under "home"
