I make no apologies for re-opening this topic - I looked for the original thread, but gave up!
The discussion was about the beginning of The Hounds of Winter, and there was much spirited debate about the singles v doubles
issue. I just got hold of a DVD( ain't ebay grand?) of Sting's Korean show from 1996, which contains some great stuff, and the only filmed intro of The Hounds of Winter that I've seen. When I eagerly popped the disk in the player to watch while feeding the inner man, my jaw dropped ( not a pretty sight when I'd just inserted half a pizza!!)when I realised that the opening song(HoW) featured several lengthy shots of Vinnie, and a great shot of the segue into 'Hung My Head'. This last shot is worth the price of the DVd alone.....it's the same roll as the intro - starts sooo quietly and builds to a crescendo, where Vinnie's sticks are nearly touching his shoulders on the upstrokes of an absolutely perfect double stroke roll!!!...there's such power and finesse, with the legendary mastery and control...and he seems to be really enjoying the whole experience. There's another part of the show, during 'You Still Touch Me' - you can see Vinnie partially over Sting's shoulder, and he's bouncing up and down, just grooving so hard.
Before anybody asks - yes, as soon as I get this house move out of the way, and get myself a shiny new pc with all the necessary
gizmos, I will share some of this stuff, and start to pay back this forum for the priceless stuff we've all had over the years.
