Pistons

Well I finally had time to dismantle my engine this w-e and WOW, the damage to my #1 piston was nothing from the top view (I could see the rings. The side view revealed a hole the size of quarter with totally destroy rings. I'll keep it as a trophee. #2 is ok, #3 show sign of fatigue and #4 is on the merge of dying, probably due of running with only one additionnal inj for 1 year.

Now, to my surprise, these were not Wiseco pistons, no marks, no stamps, nothing. The shop didn't get the right ones or they didn't put the right ones, either way I'm the one that got fuck. Since now I'm know more about FI than 2 years ago, and this time I'll know everything about my internals specs, I thinking about going with Arias pistons (seems to be the best) and bumping my CR from 8:1 to 9:1.

Comments welcome. The car has to run is two weeks so anyone who can help me getting these goodies fast, let me know.

Are you going to take the pistons back to the shop and beat them over the head with them? I think you got jacked for your cash! I am sure you still have your reciepts so you should call the shop and let them know that your shit just blew up and you know that the wrong pistons were installed. You should also call Wisco and find out exactly how you can tell their pistons from others. You will probably get a free set of pistons out of the deal if you can prove that they charged you for one thing and installed another. Talk about a bad reputation. Just let the shop know that you will inform all of your friends and acquaintances about your experience with them and that will most likely make the shops mind up right away about replacing the broken units with the right ones. I have seen only one set of Wiseco pistons in my life and they didn't have a mark on them. From my one experience they could be the real deal.

Sorry, I forgot. D16Z6 pistons, with probably .020mm overbore. I've just look at the Arias piston design and they're way better than the one I had, no sharp edge leading to hotspot.

My friend order a set for is B18B via AEM and the wiseco logo was groove in it. How can someone order the same pistons if there's no number on them ?

Why not use JE Pistons...just wondering...

I finally find out what brand are my pistons: Wiseco. They are the only brand with lines on the topside of the pistons so I guess I won't beat the shop with it.

Why not use JE ? Why use JE ? Are they better than Arias ? I've look to both pictures on RaceEng website and Arias design seems better, less sharp edges to contribute to detonation, but I'm no expert in pistons.

I just want the best pistons, and fast, period.

IMO Arias pistons have a better piston skirt design than the JE's. If you don't mind the piston slap, then Arias is the way to go.

In respect to Mr. Detail's comment. When I raced MX as kid, I used alot of Wiseco pistons and they had no real markings to speak of besides a p/n. Keep in mind this was motorcycle and this was 12 or so years ago.

I was just told by a few good sources that JE are the way to go as far as pistons...

Thanks MarkC, I was looking for the english term "skirt". You're right, the Arias will slap but only when the engine is cold as their pistons expand more than JE.

So I guess I'll end up with Arias pistons with Total Seals rings.
